Claircognizance
Often misinterpreted as telepathy, psychics have a near perfect intuition. Their subconscious analyzes every detail of a person, environment, story, and compiles that information to extract the most likely outcome. This often presents as an intensely strong gut feeling. Clairvoyance
A subset of claircognizance, clairvoyance specifically focuses on the sense of sight. Precognition, or the ability to see the future, whether through dreams or visions, falls under clairvoyance. Poison Bite
Psychics abilities come from their ancestral magic, the only magic available to them. A vampire or demon bite acts as temporary poison to ancestral magic for witches, but is deadly to psychics. Cognitive Overload
Psychics have a high level of susceptibility to a complete shock of their systems. Those with less training, more adverse childhood experiences, and greater empathy are most at risk. Effects can decrease with proper training. With prolonged uncontrolled sensory input, symptoms of memory loss, and difficulty processing information will increase. Eventually, this can result in episodes of what presents as psychosis, OCD, or suicidal ideation. |
Clairsentience
Another subset of claircognizance, specifically focusing on the sense of touch. Psycometry, or the ability to read an object, falls under clairsentience. Clairaudience
Clairaudience refers to the sense of hearing, or hearing beyond the veil separating life from death. Psychics with strong clairaudience tend to be categorized as mediums, or practitioners who speak with the dead. Poison Kiss
Unlike witches, psychics are unable to use blood magic for reversing curses. Because of this, the venom that resides in their blood from their ancestors, if infected, curses them from kissing a human without killing them. The only known treatment for this without using blood magic is an exchange blood transfusion with someone non-infected, which may not work and could cause complications with psychic abilities. Mortality
Despite any abilities, psychics are still human, making them vulnerable to accident, illness, etc. |
