Mannerisms: Evelyn has a lot of mannerisms that tie back into the fact she is blind. She’ll run her hands over her legs, arms, neck, and face to ground her when she’s having a panic attack. She’ll chew on the edge of her thumb. She’ll stare into the ground when she’s focusing really hard on someone speaking or the sound of something. When she’s annoyed, she’ll tap her foot over and over again in a rhythm. When she’s sleeping, she’ll hum a bit without realizing it.

Pet-peeves: Evelyn has a pet peeve of people who touch her a lot. Her senses are a little heightened because she’s blind, but getting suddenly touched does spook her when she doesn’t expect it, and then she’s gets annoyed. She doesn’t like people who don’t ask for consent.

What does Evelyn look for in a partner?
Evelyn is inexperienced in both love and sex. She has never had any suitors and she has never courted anyone before. However, she’d love to meet a man like the men inside her books that her maid reads to her. Handsome, witty, and so very charming. Someone who can sweep her off her feet! Of course, that’s probably not realistic, but when she has lived her whole life in a shell—realism doesn’t really matter to her. She doubts she’ll find someone who will love her for her anyway!

What is her preference?
Evelyn is heterosexual and heteroromantic. Meaning she’s only into men. If a trans man came up to her and courted her, it would be something entirely new to her as she doesn’t know what that is, but I can imagine she’ll experiment.

What turns her off about a person?
Evelyn hates any man who orders her around. Especially a man who thinks they know better than her because she’s blind. Don’t tell her where to walk, she knows what she’s doing, she’s been blind her entire life almost! And especially don’t tell her what the color is of something unless she asks! Being treated like a newborn baby when she’s very much a woman will turn her off very quickly. So don’t do that.

Evelyn’s Toxic and Positive Traits in a romantic relationship:
Positive: Loyal, gentle, kind, words of affirmation and quality time spender.
Toxic: unrealistic, naive, insecure at times, can be untrusting.

Personality (big/descriptive):

If Evelyn had to be described in only one animal, it would be a mourning dove. A beautiful bird with pale white feathers and a gentle coo, but often overlooked and misunderstood to be dirty and boring. But of course, Evelyn is treated far worse than animal.

After being born Albino and scrutinized by her own mother (along with the public), she grew to resent who she was. She hated her white hair, her pale soulless skin, her red eyes in the mirror. All the love she had in her heart went to her brother and father instead of herself. At a young age, she developed a heavy sense of insecurity.

This insecurity got worse when she started to lose her sight over time, her red eyes turning a misty white. She grew agitated and somber. Which is what she is now today. But there are good bits about her that aren’t annoyed with everyone and sad about her existence.

Just like a mourning dove, Evelyn knows how to create music. She finds most of her passion at a piano, where she can let her heart out. She knows the keys by memory, she doesn’t need her eyes to know how to play. Just like she doesn’t need her eyes to know how to hum along. If you see her playing, you’ll most likely find a small smile on her face as well.

Evelyn is very very loyal to her family. As much as she detests her dead mother, she loved her father when he was alive and she loves her older brother more than anything in the world. The two of them are the best of friends. It’s because of him that she enjoys so many things that she never thought she’d enjoy. Like listening to the books her maid reads to her and listening to other people talk—which is mostly her brother. Many people don’t visit her.

If Evelyn has any goals, she doesn’t share them. Because she doesn’t think she’ll ever achieve them. Why dwell on something she knows she’ll never be able to have? Even if she dreams about marrying a handsome man who warms her heart, or having a child and loving them with all her being, she can’t escape that whisper of reality in the back of her head.

The reality that makes her somber, harsh, and judgmental to any possibility of change. For her era, albinos are nothing more than omens and curses on the world; she would never want a child if they had the same curse as her. And she knew a man would never love her if she was an omen.

So she’s content with sitting at home, with her maid, until she grows old and dies. At least that’s what she tells herself.
