    Near is a vampire freed from hive-mind control after the defeat of Plutocrat, the demonic embodiment of greed and exploitation. After a period of mindless, distressed wandering, she was adopted by a kind human. Now well-past her recovery phase, she is the second known vampire to live in her hometown and the only vampire attending Newman Umbra University (also called NU-U). She currently lives in a college dorm with her roommate, Kit. Her older brother is Oscar Marshall, a member on the team of human heroes that killed Plutocrat. She was named after her stalking behaviour early on in her recovery.

    Despite her past as a capitalist drone, she's a kind, emotional soul that cares a lot about people. She's a freshman in college and is majoring in history with a minor in medicine. She's also on the cheer-leading team (though the other member's disapprove) and volunteers for study at the local clinic. She believes it's her responsibility to help humans understand vampires when she can and will readily correct misconceptions and offer information. Excited and busy as she may be, she still has much to worry about. Classes to attend, exams to pass, bullying to endure, and the ever-growing tensions between vampiric factions all ensure that her life is less than stress-free. As one of the few members of the "outlander" faction (and, to be frank, one of the even fewer agreeable ones), she takes it upon herself to be knowledgeable on her own kind and their current politics on top of everything else.

  • Description

    Near is a thin, slightly tall vampire woman. Just like other vampires, she has pale, blue-tinted skin, ear-length black hair (in a sort of bixie cut), and "colourless" grey eyes. She can be easily identified by the large, dark patch covering her left eye that looks like a bruise. She has slightly pointed ears and sharp, elongated canines (fangs) that can be retracted or extended at will.

    Despite being described as a "freaky goth", she doesn't actually dress in that way. Her clothing style is better described as a mix between sporty and scene. It features bright colours (typically blue or violet), stripes, graphic tank-tops, cropped jackets, shorts, and sneakers. She likes to layer clothing, and will sometimes include arm warmers and fishnets to her outfits.
