Thanasis Glaser

January 4th, 1232 - Thanasis is born to a single mother in Spain. He is named after his father, in hopes he may one day return to claim his son.
1240 - Thanasis is taken in as a glass blower apprentice, a cousin of his mother
1248 - His mother contracts leprosy and is quarantined outside of the village. She refuses to see her son, worried that meeting may risk his ability to find work.
March, 1249 - Thanasis is hired to create delicate alchemical instruments by a traveling man who refuses to share his name. He watches Thanasis work, telling him about how he plans to use the unique tools of rounded vials and tubes.
June, 1249 - The man returns, once more hiring Thanasis to make a large quantity of the same materials again. The man says he is looking for a way to end the greatest disease plaguing man. Death. Thanasis dismisses the idea, but is happy to take the money.
December, 1249 - Thanasis buries his mother in a pauper's grave after she commits suicide and is banned from being buried on church ground
1250 - With his mother dead, Thanasis is let go from his apprenticeship as a glass blower. With no direction in life, no family, Thanasis sets out to locate the man who had once taunted him with the idea of ending death. The man is already waiting for him in his mother's house.
1250-1260 - Thanasis begins an apprenticeship under the alchemist, learning of his ways and assisting in his research to try and find the secrets of the world. He never explains why he took on Thanasis as a student. The two grow close, sharing a love for mathematics and art. Thanasis takes on his master's goals as his own, not wanting to let him down as he had his mother.
1260 - His master, without warning, claims that Thanasis' training is complete, and vanishes the next day without a trace. Despite months of searching, Thanasis never lays eyes upon him again.
1260-1264 - Thanasis uses his skills before the Spanish nobles, impressing them as a magician and gaining a patron to beginning his own research. His interests focused on immortality, trying to find a way to prevent what befell his mother (and most likely his master) from ever happening to him.
1264 - A large lightning strike catches the Glaser home aflame, burning it to the ground. Thanasis is presumed dead, and a skeleton is buried next to his mother.

1346 - A man matching Thanasis' description is seen aiding and treating those effected by the Black Plague in Spain. He does not wear the expect plague doctor attire, and seems to have no fear of catching the disease.

1492 - A man covered in old, alchemical tattoos is seen traveling with Christopher Columbus as a navigator.

1600s - A man going by the named Theodore takes up residence in Venice, teaching alchemy to a number of students before one day vanishing without a word.

1800s - Claiming to be a descendant of the same Theodore, a tattooed man appears in the court of the royal family as a spiritual advisor to the queen. He is presumed dead after an attack on his private home by fanatics claiming he worships the devil.

1920s - A book on Enochian is published by a Thomas Glaser in the United States. Several more books on alchemy and the language of angels are publish by a Thomas Glaser. but he never answers requests from professors to speak on his work
1967 - A Tom Glass is arrested for creating a collection of bombs in protest to the Vietnam war. Before he can be charged, he is found to be missing from his cell; the bars melted.
1999 - A man returns to Spain, leaving flowers at an old hill with no markers. The flowers bloom ever brighter that year

2020 - In Canada, a picture on the internet of a nurse gains virality for his unique tattoos while working in the COVID ward. When someone goes to find him, the man is gone and no records suggest he ever worked at the hospital
2025 - A bookstore is opened up under the name Glaser Books. It specializes in collecting and selling old, obscure texts as well as rebinding them. For those in the know, it is the right place to go for a little something special.

Thanasis is a skilled alchemist. Not by raw talent, but because living for over 700 years can make you good at anything.

Through out time, and under similar names, Thanasis has worked to perfect his research. Studying and curing diseases, working with other talented alchemists in his field, and publishing material to bring in more students that might help him crack the code of immortality.

While Thanasis cannot die of old age, he is not truly immortal. Without constant treatment, care and ritual he will begin to age again. He is immune to most diseases, but he can still be killed by the normal physical damage; he went into hiding for a while during the height of the witch trials.

Of the most important to his long survival, is Thanasis' tattoos. The different marks, sigils and scripture work to preserve and protect him. When mixed with different tonics and potions, they can lead him to being invulnerable to certain situations but the effect is never permanent.

In the modern day, Thanasis has settled down in an old bookshop. He leaves coded messages both across the internet and through the books he writes in hopes of finding more people like him. That together they will be able to solve the final missing parts of his search for true immortality.

His research does make him a target by both monsters and witch hunters. The former wants the power his life force would provide, and the later wants to destroy him and all his research. Pretending to be a conspiracy lunatic in an old bookstore has been his most successful disguise yet.
