Orion Draven Frost

Orion Draven Frost graduated from The Whispering Woods Institute with a better understanding of himself and his purpose. He had always been good with animals, uncannily good, but being in the magical world had allowed him to explore his connections on deeper levels than if he had remained in the muggle world.

During the Care of Magical Creatures classes, he learned he could tame hippogriffs with a smile - both bowing to each other as equals, charm wood nymphs and have them teach him the ways of the forests, bewitch dragons and turn them into playful puppy dogs, and enchant unicorns to let him brush them to collect their hair without harming them. He had a special touch and understanding that went beyond magical teachings. Orion could understand them and they him, no spells needed.

In his seventh and final year attending The Whispering Woods Institute, Orion petitioned for a scholarship to spend two years studying advanced Care of Magical creatures in South America at Castelobruxo, located in Brazil's Amazon rainforest. It is a magical school best known for its strength in Herbology and Magizoology - magical creatures.

Orion was awarded the scholarship and the acceptance to Castelobruxo where he lived apart from the younger student population and lived with the caretaker. A woman by the name of Maria Clara, who Orion playfully nicknamed 'The M.C.' Maria took to Orion like a son and together she opened up all the mysteries and dangers of the Brazilian rainforest.

Orion, being able to change into a mountain loin at will, found himself lounging with leopards in high trees, zig zagging the lush forest floors with jaguars, and even a few mountain lions like himself. They accepted first in his animal form but then in his human form - the scent was the same.

When he discovered the world's largest species of otters lived in the rainforest, it was hard to keep him out of the rivers. He swam with them, played with them, and his chest became a favorite spot for warm naps in the sun. He introduced them once to his patronus but it seems to frighten them.

Aside from the otters, Orion befriended ten different species or monkeys. The piranha didn't take to kindly to him. He tried his best at parceltongue but nearly got himself eaten by an anaconda, when he accidentally offended him. But the best friend he made was with an ocelot he named Camila.

Orion tried to smuggle her out of Brazil by transfiguring her into a hairbrush. He got past the muggle authorities but he was caught by some aurors who took his Camila away and sent her to keep Maria Clara company in his absence.

As much as Orion enjoyed playing the natural animals of the Brazilian rainforest, he had come specifically to study the magical creatures.

The first creature he studied was the fire slug, which is a magical slug associated with fire - suitable name. While studying the slug he found that the mucus the slug produced worked well as a topical pain relief to temporarily relieve minor aches and pains from conditions like muscle soreness, strains, sprains, and arthritis.


He studied the Amazonian salamander next. He wasn't sure what magical properties they had until he was out studying them late one night and had to light a fire. The salamanders took to the fire and played in the flames as if it was water. Orion determined the salamanders had a scales that protected them from the intense heat.

His favorite magical friend he made was a Peruvian vipertooth, which was a gorgeous red dragon. Toothless (thanks DreamWorks) was the smallest dragon he had ever seen - only fifteen feet when full grown. Though Toothless wouldn't let Orion ride him, Toothless did allow Orion to poke around his scales for educational purposes...as long as Orion made a point to give him thorough belly scratches when he was finished taking notes.


The only creature Orion didn't get to interact with was the curupira, or caipora. It was a funny creature with feet that face backward. Possibly the reason Orion never got to interact was because the silly curupira ran away when it meant to run towards him. He never was certain.

While under Maria Clara's tutelage, she encouraged him to apply for post graduate work at the Hogwarts University. She explained that with his natural abilities with animals paired with his impressive magical skills, he should strive to be a healer of magical creatures.

Technically, there was no current career as a magical veterinarian, but Maria Clara had taught him some magical healing spells and Orion was able, through trial and error, to adapt the spells to animals both magical and non-magical. New healing spells coupled with the fire slug mucus being a topical ointment had him soaring towards a bright future and laying the ground work to create a possible new area of magical study.

He received his acceptance letter to Hogwarts University the day before he left Brazil.
