Haki Temauri

If asked, Haki would likely say he's too tired to have a personality these days. Or that he's retired from having a personality. And looking at him, one could kind of see it; he often moves with weight to his steps and with languid motion. You'll often see him lounging around and either playing his guitar, smoking, or drinking by himself at a bar. Sometimes he just disappears for a while, and it's never quite clear where he is or when he'll be back. If asked he'll say he was "holed up somewhere, sleeping" or something equally vague and dismissive.

But the truth is that he can be spotted around town. He's moving often, traveling around or exploring the outskirts and abandoned areas. And if you do see him drinking at a bar, he's usually reading something on his tablet. And if you're really lucky you may glimpse that it's usually some novel, almost always fiction, and perhaps suspiciously filled with particularly romantic or spicy scenes. If you engage him in conversation he probably won't show any signs of resentment unless you're particularly annoying, and he may even be more receptive than his grumpy appearance and isolationist vibes might suggest.

His morality is questionable, but he'll be the first to tell you he thinks a lot of what FM did in the past was pretty fucked up, and he fully stands by the decisions that got him labeled a Dito. That said, he's not afraid to kill. In fact, he sort of disagrees with some of the "no kill" stances on the island. On one hand he thinks it's probably for the best on the grand scheme of things, but on the other he thinks it's an absurd absolute to reach for. Either it's not going to last, or it was a lie in the first place. And on that note, if Haki thinks the world is better without you? It's probably best to avoid finding yourself in a dark ally or an enclosed space with him.

Generally Haki cuts a pretty imposing figure; broad shouldered and standing at 6'4", he may not be the biggest silhouette on the island, but his broad-rimmed hat and worn duster often make him a recognizable one. He's a healthy mix of muscle and athleticism, though he definitely veers more towards the former than flexibility. There's a reason one of his MOs from his time with FM was snapping people's necks.

Aesthetic wise, the theme for Haki is ✨Brown ✨ He has dark brown almond eyes, brown skin, and his auburn-brown hair is usually kept at a medium length just below his ears or halfway down his neck. It never reaches his shoulders, and sometimes he'll get fed up and cut it short, particularly in late spring before the heat of summer hits. That's rare, and usually a sign that he's frustrated with something else, but it does happen. What you'll never see is him clean shaven. While he usually tries to keep himself groomed, Haki always has some facial hair, which can grow quite a bit thicker during some of his extended trips or during winter.

Most of his clothes are worn brown coats or pants, brown or black gloves, and a handkerchief or rag tied around his neck as a makeshift mask against dust or his own smoke. Sometimes he'll keep a gasmask tied at his waist. The only bright in his outfit is the occasional white or gray shirt tucked into his pants, or blue jeans.

And yes. His hat is also a light brown. But you could call it tan if you wanted to mix it up a bit.

Vibe: Sublimation Smoke
Description: Haki's vibe, when activated, sublimates the substances in his body into smoke. At a base level, this just produces basic smoke, irritating and mildly obscuring the senses; at a greater level, however, it can be infused with substances he consumes. For instance, if he's been drinking, activating his vibe will start to burn off the alcohol in his system and make the smoke carry an intoxicating effect. The rate at which the substance burns off from him and the strength it holds in his smoke depends on his vibe level; if he has little to no vibe it will be hardly effective if the smoke is inhaled, and he will remain intoxicated for longer as it slowly burns out of his system and into his smoke. Conversely if he's already charged up on vibe before activating it, he'll burn it off quickly and the secondary effect to his smoke will be significantly more powerful.

*Levels and Effects:*
- *Density:* At a base level, Haki produces a mild smokescreen. Running on empty it's a light haze, easy to see through and wave away. After about fifteen seconds of playing, however, it's thicker, harder to see through, and scratches at the lungs if inhaled. It also tends to cling more heavily around him, moves with him, and can be very minorly controlled as he plays. It's more resistant to being dispersed, but can still be removed by a steady or strong wind.
- *Secondary Effects:* Haki often has whiskey on him and some degree of alcohol or nicotine in his system, so it's common for his smoke to have at least some secondary effect. If he's been drinking, inhaling his smoke will result in an intoxicating effect; if he's been smoking, you're going to feel more relaxed after a huff. This can extend to other medications, but all have to be inhaled through the smoke and the effectiveness will depend on how much vibe Haki has and maintains while the smoke is active.
- *Last Resort (Extreme Effects):* It is possible for Haki's smoke to take on a deadlier nature, but it comes with severe risks. If Haki ingests something toxic or corrosive and activates his vibe, his smoke can take on these properties. It becomes extremely dangerous to inhale, but will also burn the skin or cause irritation depending on what he's ingested. **However,** whatever he's consumed **will effect him too** if he is not able to immediately sublimate it into his smoke. This means that if he ingests, say, bleach, and activates his vibe without being fully charged, it will continue to burn and liquify his insides until it is fully "burned off". Even if he's fully charged, there will still be **some initial damage,** but he will be able to power through. Think first degree burns and a worsening cough. If he runs out of vibe and the corrosive smoke is still present, it **will** begin to effect him, including burning his skin, clothes, and lungs if he inhales it. This applies to all levels but is most deadly with the worst version of his vibe.

- *Weaknesses:*
-- **Wind:** If Haki is fully charged up he can get his smoke to cling to him to some extent, but wind can still easily disperse it. He's most effective indoors.
-- **Route of Administration:** For all cases but the most extreme, Haki's smoke has to be inhaled to have any effect. While it can irritate the eyes like any smoke, no secondary effect will actually activate unless the smoke is actively inhaled. For the most extreme cases -- ie Bleach, see above "Last Resort" -- it can affect the skin but will still only be truly dangerous with extended exposure or inhalation, which can be reduced by covering one's mouth and nose or using a filter (ie gas mask)
-- **Dispersion:** If Haki isn't maintaining the smoke it will quickly loose any cohesion and disperse into the air

*Passives*
- Often the smell of campfire lingers around Haki, even if he hasn't been near a fire in weeks
- When he moves there's a faint blurring at the edges of his figure as almost imperceptible amounts of smoke waft off him

If You Know Haki:

Anyone familiar with Haki would:
- Know at least some Cajun French by the sheer amount he sprinkles into conversation. This has become much less common over the years, and his accent has lessened some, but if you knew him in his twenties and before he was frequently swapping languages and would often mutter in frustration or talk in French under his breath.
- Know his morals and opinions can change quite a lot depending on his mood.
- Know that before the island he lived with, and was raised by, his grandparents.
- Know he's not the biggest fan of his vibe.
- Know he likes to talk philosophical but isn't always necessarily the best at it


By Reputation Alone:

Anyone could have heard this about Haki:
- He's not afraid to kill. He had a couple signature methods when he was in FM, and it seems they carry through to his time in RD
- He used to be one of Cornell's men. He was kicked out of FM before the war for disobeying (or refusing, depending who you ask) a direct order. He had a target on his back until Cornell's death in '99
- He's known to patrol RD and takes issue with anyone from either of the factions if they start causing issues
