All Moxie had known throughout her life was the assassin lifestyle. Hiding within shadows, decoding letters for the next mission. She was good at it, better than most of the others that worked for the guild. Even if she used her looks to get in with the men she was quested to kill.

Through whispers and letters, she rose in the ranks and her name spread throughout the cities. They either respected her or feared her. Both she loved more than the coin she got with each completed job.

Yet, her final contract came sealed in black wax and bound in blood red twine. The words: Kill the prince, he will destroy the nation almost jumped off the parchment and the reward danced to life. There was no turning down the contract that had been handed to her. Not that she ever turned on down, she just knew never to. It was one of the rules everyone knew.

Using her looks, she hid among the prostitutes that hung out near the kingdom. Flaunting and flirting till the prince came around. He paid for one night, and it would be his last. Using the poison she had made from toxic plants, she was able to knock him out completely. Once he was out, she was able to make the kill. And once the kill was complete, something broke within her.

Once she escaped the castle, she started declining further contracts and vanishing into the shadows she had grown to know like family. Changing her name to Moxie Rae and changing her own style to something more of a pirate than an assassin. Taking up a job in a tavern, serving drinks to random men that came in. Her charm being the light to many around her, even if it held darkness.

Being constantly hunted by not only the royal guard, but the shadow guild was after her. With what she knew about their operation, they wanted her taken out. Putting out a contract on their best assassin for anyone to pick up. Which meant, assassins were constantly lurking in the shadows, making Moxie paranoid to be alone.

During one of the long nights at the tavern, she found a captain named Lyla who was down on her luck. Given a promise of never being in one spot too long, a quest that mattered more than life itself, she set sail with the fiery captain Lyla Jones. Being on the sea with her now best friend, she felt more at home than ever being in the shadows.

Moxie loved being on the sea, searching for Lyla's sister and helping her get revenge. But she was still looking over her shoulder anytime they were on land. Her face on wanted posters with high rewards always made her nervous to go into taverns or the market. But even if she had to go on land, she always wore her black cloak to cover most of her figure.

With the crew behind her, she felt safer than she ever did. Even if she still got nervous and worried about someone recognizing her, she always felt happier around Lyla. Protected and one of the crew, the loyalty was nothing like the shadow guild she was a part of.

If anyone did spot her from the poster, they wouldn’t be alive long. The crew or herself would take care of it while stealing anything shiny in sight.
