Finuidin was born a son of a schoolmaster father and a healer mother. From a young age he had a fascination with pens and parchments, once making a mess on his father's desk with the ink and quill. He learned how to write not long after, and his interest in writing and reading seemed to know no bounds. He soon took the name of Sérrauidín (Literary Scribe) as suggested by one of his teachers.

When he was eighteen years of age, he went to serve his mandatory two years in the Gondorian Army, which was a hard time for him as it interrupted his studies. But he worked on his writing skill in the many long hours of boredom while assigned to the watch on the Poros River Crossing in Harondor. It earned him the nickname of 'Scratch' from his comrades due to the sound his quill made when he was writing.

When his service was finished, he immediately went back to Minas Tirith to study calligraphy and applied to join the Scribes Guild. When his application was going to be rejected due to he not having anyone within the guild vouch for him, Darhilas, King Elessar's writer, stood up and said, "Are we to turn away one who has as much, if not more skill than any who sit in this room?" Finuidin was soon accepted into the guild.

It was only a year later when Darhilas took ill from an infection in his old wound he had suffered on the Pelennor Fields during the War of the Ring, and he personally offered Finuidin's name to the king to be his replacement. After an interview with the king, he was accepted as Aragorn's new official writer.

Finuidin would go by the name of Fintegil, and would serve King Elessar in this capacity until the king's death in the year 120 - IV. He would continue to serve King Eldarion until recommending a new writer to the king before his death in the year 199 - IV at the age of 182.
