Note: Religiously speaking, Elias functions in tandem with my personal opinion that while every religious culture is different, they are all general interpretations of the same things. I also play him off the idea that devils are higher classes of demons working directly for the Adversary/Satan archetype.

brain stuff
Elias thinks specifics are silly. He regards existence and everything within it as general at best and is of the belief that to try to quantify anything is to afford it more gravity of purpose than it actually deserves. With this in mind it’s probably no surprise that his attitude about value is pretty shitty and he thinks the concept of individuality is a huge misunderstanding of the way things really are – that people frightened by their own mortality went around pulling at one another and shouting originality at the top of their lungs to wash away natural inadequacies in the only way they knew how. Because of reasons elaborated later on, this is extremely hypocritical of him and yes, he is aware of it.

Despite being a devil, this guy is best described as a gray character. He doesn’t acknowledge the concepts of good and evil as truly existing qualities even though he is aware of the public stigmas associated with them. He recognizes people and things as only existing and doing what they are naturally fit to do, and to him, this doesn’t make one guy more or less appreciable than the next. Life is just life and a job is a job is a job, vanilla. To people who think differently, this outlook itself might make him neutral or lawful evil by description. Basically, he's evil by nature and neutral by choice.

Another quirk to him is the lagging emergence of some personal dilemmas. Elias is a philosophical guy and pondering the lessons of Epicurus has lead him to question himself, his place in existence, and what existence itself means. More recently he has been dealing with the question of whether or not he personally has a soul. This subject is pensive and can fog up his focus at inopportune times. As a problem it's ballooned to the point of Elias experiencing his first trace of what might be anxiety regarding his job. He does not want to stop being and he will do anything he can to work against that, no matter the measure, even if it means taking every soul in existence.

devil stuff
So this guy was formerly called "the Soul Eater" by cultures who misunderstood him. He was also commonly mistaken for the Devil in Hungary and a few other societies, too. What Elias is tends to lean more into the higher henchman/minion type. He works directly for whatever name you want to apply to Satan (we will go with the prince of darkness because it's hilarious) and while this position might come off as an esteemed one in helltown, Elias isn't really respected or disrespected. He just does what he does and that's all that's ever been asked of him.

His corporeal human form is actually adopted. He was created as a black dog (his original form). His sigil is extremely complicated due to the nature of his existence and it has to be 100% accurate/symmetrical to summon him. Because of this, it has only happened twice. The second time a human sacrifice was involved, a young adult Israeli man who was disregarded at large for his homosexuality. Some people hated a dude in power and wished the worst on him for whatever reason, so it finally got to the point of involving a demonic favor. They went to painstaking lengths to summon a devil then-recognized as the Soul Eater (however inaccurate) and they managed to do it. The Israeli guy’s peers believed his homosexual lifestyle preference was the result of demonic possession or influence, so they also thought sacrificing a “demon” to a devil was an easy way to deceive him and avoid giving up one of their own. The trade happened and an innocent life was lost but they got what they wanted from it, and Elias got a much less hazarding way to go about his business (he could now talk and “interview” people for substance instead of outright confronting them as a black dog).

Elias interviews people for soul collections. If he feels he can break them later, he’ll move forward with the interest. If not, he’ll drop communication with them like it never happened. Some people could find this weird, which would be an interesting dynamic as he’ll basically completely ignore them/see through them after being so superficially considerate that first time around.

Despite being a devil, he works as a solo agent. This means he doesn't issue orders or anything to other hell creatures. He has had multiple demons approach him in this fashion and has become irritated with it over time. This irritation has inflated to the use of tricks -- he will intentionally lead a demon astray or onto thin ice if he believes they're bothering him.

soul stuff
The soul collection process: he has his sigil on his palm, he’ll weaken the person, “shake” their faith, and then approach them to console them with what at first appears to be a polite embrace or pat to the head. It ends up being the actual extraction. He places his palm at their temple and finds the soul in their consciousness (resistance being a soul that is harder to find; souls aren’t meant to be extracted, they’re meant to be released), then draws it out against his sigil. The location at the temple of the head is an analogy to leading the individual away from God (out of God’s temple).

The individual having his or her soul extracted will enter a state of euphoria. It'll pulse once from the temple his sigil is on and remain in tact throughout the duration of the extraction. A similarity to sleep paralysis is noted here wherein the individual may experience hallucinations related to dreams or past accomplishments (a common one being warm memories with family or loved ones) and will otherwise be unable to move; small twitches of the fingers and toes are manageable, as is the case with the parent condition.

When the soul is drawn out, it looks like a thin plume of black smoke rather than the symbolic white. This is because Elias must taint or “corrupt” it in order to locate it in the victim’s consciousness.

Once the soul is extracted, the individual does not die; rather, they become somewhat of a shell or a shadow of their former self. This is because the soul is not a necessary component for the physical body to survive. It's also common for the individual to vomit violently or experience temporary illness for a few minutes following the soul extraction because the body must adjust its equilibrium.

shadow stuff
Elias is something of a living shadow. He can become several incorporeal shades, the most common of which is a small fox. He is able to adhere to both the second and third dimensions as a shadow with respects to the laws of physics -- the best way of explaining this interception of light is to assume an unseen copy of him is present and producing the shape. For example, in broad daylight, he can run across the two-dimensional ground as a shape as if something invisible is casting the shadow. I'm still working on fleshing all of this out with as much respect to nature as possible, so bear with me until I get there. He's also only able to come off of the second dimension by entering the third as a shade and then becoming corporeal thereafter (if he chooses to, anyway). He prefers the second dimension for activity as a shadow and will often use it to creep on people because he's an observer type and this helps him discern good conversation from bad conversation before approaching.

Elias also experiences a sort of lag phase between transformations, especially when going from incorporeal to corporeal. He has to adjust to the physical difference in both body and perspective and this can cost him a few good minutes. This has fucked him over before so he tends to do this in private where someone is less likely to catch him off his guard.

Because Elias isn't a natural shadow, people with shadow-related abilities can't affect or puppeteer him. Sorry.

Poésie (bound) A girl he met when she pulled him out of the macrocosm. She seems to know too much about him for comfort, including his actual name, so he pretends to be some loyal stray to keep an eye on her should she become a problem. Illés doesn't know what bound him to the girl or how it happened but he's under the impression that her abilities are massive and probably out of her control, because they almost kill her whenever they come into play. With the idea that he might be able to manipulate her to save his own ass, he'd sooner flay every approaching stranger than let them harm her. This strange symbiotic (and vaguely paternal) relationship will eventually endear her to him.

Morgriff A hellhound that almost blew his cover. The guy seems to be smart and respectful, which bothers Elias because he doesn't know what to expect.

Prometheus While he initially came off as a harmless posterboy for Lexapro and anything with Blue Curacao in it, Elias viewed him as too much of a gamble for what he saw as his community. Having not seen the little guy in a while, he no longer cares about it to make it an issue.

Yune A few encounters gave Elias the opinion that this young Russian would be a good candidate for collection. When Yune came to him detailing misinformation and a potential threat, Elias feigned support, told him it would be okay, and took his soul.

Tseena A bizarre Native American woman who knows more than she should, or at least he thinks so. She is very direct in conversation, though, and he can agree with that despite all the strangeness.

Eaves He doesn't know much about this guy yet but he's interested.

Rhamiel He will do absolutely anything in his power to avoid a confrontation with him. He doesn't understand the wrong in what he does and believes the interference is unjustified. The angel's presence has effectively disturbed him into a short-sighted period of rapid collection offset by Poésie's abilities.
