Appearances
All phoerelli bear the same distinctive traits, though their overall appearance of these traits can differ the same way a race of humans will all look different. Distinctive traits for the phoerelli breed are: more than one pair of wings, long flowing tail plumes with glowing suns moons and stars, avian feet, species specific eyes, a crest dependent on their variant, and a shimmering iridescent sheen of any hue over their skin of any color. A phoerelli's wings in natural form reveal the size of the phoerelli in their true forms. Smaller primary back wings means they would be a smaller bird sized phoerelli, whereas a phoerelli with larger primary wings can reach up to a thirty foot wingspan. Primary wings are the main, first set of wings found on their back where wings typically spout on winged individuals. Other sets of wings will sprout around those wings, or anywhere else on their body; head, nape of neck, calves, ankles, wrists, elbows, you name it.
Phoerelli begin with one pair of wings, the number stays the same per transition until a rebirth randomly gifts them a second pair, which they keep until a future lifespan surprises them with their third set, and so on. You can get an idea of a phoerelli's age by the number of wings they boast. It will never happen back to back, and often takes a phoerelli a few lifetimes to hit the jackpot on the wing lottery, causing some egotistic phoerelli to become addicted to changing lifespans before 50 years. Again, like a kitsune, their wings are a decent way to tell a phoerelli's true age, but with those addicted to getting more wings, this apparent age can be deceptive. Ones with extra wings, can take on as many phoenix forms per set of extra wings, all varying in size or shape, and will keep their same colors but in different arrangements and patterns. Their wing sizes depict the sizes of their phoenix transformations, which again can each vary in appearance. Each phoenix transformation, or 'true form' only shows one pair of wings, meaning their added wings are added phoenix forms to take as needed. Phoerelli tend to view one another's extra wings as trophies and bragging rights, showing superiority or respectable elder status.
Females tend to have longer plumes and tail feathers, whereas males have shorter sets. Such is not always the case, but frequent. Phoerelli are gender fluid.
Distinctive traits cannot be lacking/missing between each phoerelli. All phoerelli have these traits that make their species definable and recognizable. However, if you think up something creative for their current round of life, fly it by me to see if I will accept it.
Eyes in Detail. They look like cooling lava with a dim glowing light of fuchsia hugged by the darker shades of dark navy/purple and near-black. These eyes allow them to see in situations where there is little sunlight, such as indoors. They cannot see at all in darker situations where a normal person could make things out, such as a dark room or a cave, so they need lots of fire or electricity to light their way. Depending on their mood, their blood gets flowing and the shaded hues of their eyes crack into lava-bright tints. Anytime a phoerelli is in sunlight, their eyes appear almost completely black with a tinge of hue varying per phoerelli. What seems like stars glitter in their dark sclera and in place of pupils seems the Sun itself; phoerelli are adapted to the brighter rays and see excellently in blindingly bright light. -
Location, Culture, Religion
The First, a phoenix who escaped the worldly plane, and thought to gather young phoenix so inclined to join them to a new world they all could prosper. The world humans called home was too harsh for them, and there was no room for them as they feared dying out with other "mythological" creatures. It wasn't the monster hunters they feared, but humanity's destructive abilities. The early phoerelli, still phoenix, migrated to the Sun with the First where they all adapted to its heat and prospered as celestial spirits, quite simply evolving to prosper among the worlds. This "Sun" is the sun everyone sees, but the celestial realm is something of a "parallel plane" and as such certain adapted organisms can live within the habitat and call it home. Certain bugs, molten fish, and other heat-tolerant animals (that may not seem logical in mundane earthly planes) make up the fiery ecosystem. There are rock formations and caves, littered with fire lilies and orchids on the walls where magma makes up the plasma membrane of these floras. Quite a stunning sight. There is even a single castle of sorts, with a small town around it, where the First roosts, the Cardinal and their Priestess are the faces of the First and all house within the "castle" to serve their people and connect with other tribes.
Often, a phoerelli leaves their solar home to live out a life to learn the ways of those on the earthly plane, other worlds, or realms. Like their pre-evolved ancestors, they reach the end of their life there only to rise from their ashes and choose where to go next. From there they can proceed on the same plane among non-phoerelli with a new appearance and element ruling them, or return home to the Sun in their same, unaltered body for as long or as short as they please; if a phoerelli waits long enough on the Sun to return to the same world, they may return unaltered. Phoerelli will keep their worldy bodies for a minimum and mandatory one year, maximum being the average mortal lifespan. They are free to return to the Sun at any time by means of rebirth, but cannot go back to that same plane until the time passes that would have amounted to one mortal lifespan there.
When a Phoerelli is ready for their rebirth, they gather friends and family and give themselves to death in a ritualistic manner by means of a colored flame summoned by the priest or priestess, and the phoerelli rebirthing will have had to retrieve their blessed amulet from their highest ranking family member. This greatly ensures the phoerelli won't become a tragic typeset for their habitat. When a phoerelli has no family around, they can do it themselves with help of the priestess, or connect with their families by visiting any tribe's priestess, and pay homage with offerings and a prayer, before being given a blessed amulet forged through the prayer to do it themselves. This is how families extend over time, and can end up with additional amulets per plane per family. The summoned flames, which are that phoerelli's celestial phoenix spirit, are painful but bearable, as they melt away feathers, char flesh, and modify the phoerelli from head to toe in a beautiful spectacle flame shaped like a phoenix. Because it is still rather painful and exhausting to the soul, most phoerelli prefer to stick to an average human lifespan before rising again. This ritual is given no name, but referred to simply as "rebirthing," and sometimes "rising." While a phoerelli transitions between lifespans, they do keep defining features: gender, height, hair length (tends to be cut and styled per phoerelli after they transition), personality, memories, wing count (unless they earn another pair), face and body features, and name.
Assisted Rebirth is an immediate, forced, rare act of mercy to save the freshly rebirthed phoerelli from added sorrows that could impact their supremely long (near endless) lives. This type of ritual may be excessively painful since the soul just processed a rebith, but phoerelli deem it less painful than a long lifespan as the most heartbreaking typeset one could land in, considering their family and habitat... the Assisted Rebirth is jarring physically, mentally, and spiritually; but necessary. This is primarily only done to Undead phoerelli, but may rarely occur if, say, a frost phoerelli rises in a volcanic habitat and wants to stay with their family. During an Assisted Rebirth, as much of the tribe that can attend will surround an Undead phoerelli, subdue them, and take them to the nearest lava pit or vat of molten metal. There is always a vat of molten metal in each community, as every tribe prides themselves in having at least one smith, often more. The phoerelli is melted, because their celestial spirit is dormant in their body and cannot be summoned and will refuse to rise again. The Undead (or tragic typeset) phoerelli will rise again, but even when they are given a rather positive typeset for their habitat they still tend to be either traumatized, or bitter.
On earth, most phoerelli would be roosting near heated locations like hot springs and volcanoes, or deep underground surrounded by flame. They prefer tropical or desert locations, and some even dwell in humid swamps. Some phoerelli cannot tolerate the hotter temperatures and will dwell in jungles, forests, by the ocean, high on a mountain, or frozen tundra. These phoerelli include earth, frost, water, and undead. Some can tolerate any climate, such as storm, sanguine, and healing. These following phoerelli, while just as adaptive as storm, sanguine, and healing, still need some level of heat; ether, light, and shadow.
There are a handful of phoerelli tribes scattered worldwide from bustling cities in secrecy, to secluded shrines in the deepest pits of jungles or forests near volcanoes. A phoerelli's coloration plays a small part in depicting the region they hail from (not just their typeset). For example, browns, yellows, blacks, or reds would be found in desert climates. Neutral/nature colors, and blacks/whites come from climates in-between from cities to towns, forests and mountains. A vivid and exotically colored phoerelli no doubt lives in the tropics or oceans.
There are few and far between phoerelli that aren't part of a tribe, so they are usually always around phoerelli. They are instinctively very social beasts, having both a flock and hive mentality, as well as a natural draw to dragons and other fire elemental beasts and beings. They commonly dislike everything else, and some, not all phoerelli have a rather high and mighty vanity about their species. Phoerelli are typically only alone when ordered to investigate elsewhere, they are staking new land or a new world, or something traumatic like kidnap and torture happens. Those lone phoerelli can end up losing track of their kin, rendered incapable of communicating with them, or attend tribe meetings. When they need to rise to their next lifespan and have no contact with family or priests or priestesses, they must force it by melting, similar to the Assisted Rebirth, but without the townspeople and far more guarantee of an Undead rising. The tribes don't pursue those captured, because as cold as it may be, no phoerelli wants to risk capture of more phoerelli. When Undead are found, they are handled; it is their way. Little to no phoerelli run away from home.*
*exceptions are the undead Priestess of Guildereim, and her followers.
The Sun is a phoerelli's object or being of worship. A phoerelli's respect and adoration for "the Sun" is like a pagan's respect for "Mother Earth," goddess of the earth, etc. Animal sacrifices, offerings of celestial realm plants, random food, whatever a phoerelli has on hand to offer to a shrine as gratitude. They say the Sun took The First (the first phoenix that left Earth, anyway) into her loving arms and provided a home, means to survive, and helped the children of The First evolve into the phoerelli they are today. The Sun welcomed The First and created a home on her surface, and The First still lives in a well hidden mountain in the celestial realm of the Sun. At the base of the mountain is the City of Sol, where a castle of sorts extends from the mountain, and a small city society lives, led by their Cardinal and Priestess. Non-phoerelli may doubt their beliefs in the Sun, but the phoerelli firmly believe their culture as the Sun is quite literally their home, and higher-ups of phoerelli have seen the First for themselves. Civilians may only see The First if present when the Cardinal communicates with her within their home shrine on the Sun.
In their culture, they are very connected to their habitat, they prefer to "live off the land," like wild tribes that have no technological advances where even a glass cup would be high tech for them. The tribes may vary in local culture and language, but they all speak a phoerelli common tongue on top of those local languages. Tribes may live and talk like nomadic Nords or vikings, they might be tribal islanders, barbarians, forest dwellers, or any other wildling name based on where the wild beasts are from. Not all phoerelli tribes stick to their old ways of low-tech culture, and will modernize enough for comfort. In modernized worlds, most tribes prefer to remain in their secluded locations. Tribes that live in cities or towns still live off the land and mortals tend to call them "those strange hippies/off-the-grid weirdos." Living in the suburbs is difficult, but possible after so many eons of phoerelli evolution.
Their cultural fashion differs in each region, but still has the same overall "feel" to it. They adore wearing precious metal of gold, bronze, copper, silver, white gold, platinum, etc. They wear very little clothing due to their anatomy being very limiting on what they can and cannot wear (unless in human form). Bras, chaps, and loincloths are common in all regions, and they favor intricate designs in their ensembles made from precious metals or by engraving. Feathers are often included as well in their attires, and will sometimes collect feathers from friends, family, and foes.
Phoerelli have a specific ranking system. There is The First that is equivalent to say, the Pope, a servant of God (the Sun). Following that is the Cardinal, which at present is Cardinal Yaju; there is only one Cardinal, and they handle the First's daily needs. The Cardinal communicates through ritual with The First, who in turn communicates with the Sun, and vice versa. The Cardinal resides in the phoerellis' main capitol, City of Sol, their augmented city granting living capabilities to both hot and cool climate phoerelli. Beneath the Cardinal is the Priestess or Priest. Priests and Priestesses govern over each phoerelli tribe where they live, and there is only one to each tribe. The Priests and Priestesses communicate through worship ritual at their shrine altars to the Cardinal, in turn to the First, then the Sun and vice versa. If a civilian phoerelli needs guidance from the Sun, they can pray within their shrines where the Sun herself pays mind and assists most phoerelli in need if she can, and it's not some unimaginable miracle. If a civilian phoerelli has an urgent report, they must take it to their rightful Priest or Priestess, who then proceeds up the ladder with the reported information. A phoerelli could bypass this system, but it is seen as disrespectful and suspicious, and sneaking in to a shrine may be required.

Most all phoerelli visit shrines religiously, or have an Altar to the Sun set up at "home," some even have mobile shrines they take everywhere with them; through their shrines initiating the connection through a short ritual, they can hear their tribe's Priest or Priestess sending messages up and down the line, answering prayers and blessings, and so on, or communicate their emergencies to the Sun herself. Phoerelli are incredibly connected and often have Hive Mind, but some stray phoerelli do happen, and lose their connection even when they visit a physical shrine building. -
Dragons
It is commonly seen that the Dragon and Phoenix represent the Yin and Yang. Phoerelli are naturally attracted to dragons whether intimately or as very good and close friends; this can be dangerous as not all dragons are keen on friendship or sociability. Naturally, many dragons are known to be drawn magnetically to phoerelli, recognizing that sense of "balance" and wanting more of it. Dragons and phoerelli are usually very calm and content when around each other, and will seek their allies out for a fix of that sense of completion. Sometimes, they develop an obsession with a dragon, which can lead to tragedy if the dragon does not reciprocate.

Typesets, Skillsets, Abilities
They've picked up certain abilities to survive in their locations. All phoerelli (except undead) can manipulate fire, and all can heal nonfatal wounds with the use of a plucked feather or shed tear.
Celestial spirit, essentially a phoerelli's "spirit" or "ghost" that can travel between the astral and physical plane for a short time. This is how the phoerelli are transported between celestial realm and other realms where magic is often taboo. Phoerelli can only transport when they "die." This form is only seen during rebirthing, or when a phoerelli has accepted a permanent "death" in which a fiery home is required to remain as a celestial spirit. Once the celestial spirit leaves or is forced out of this location, and if they are unable to return to the Sun, they cease to exist entirely, it is their final death. This is greatly mourned within the community the phoerelli comes from, and a community will fiercely protect any sanctuary where these celestial spirits reside in their retirement. In the case of permanent retirement, time has no meaning to the celestial spirit.
Alternate forms, phoerelli can take their "true form" of a phoenix, and if they do not take their true form at least once a week, they will become highly restless and perhaps even irritable. Usually they are in their default "natural form" which is that of a humanoid-phoenix. When safety is needed, or going incognito, a phoerelli can take on a purely "human form." A phoerelli in this state can still be pinpointed by keen eyes and senses due to; inhumanly warm skin and their distinctive eyes (in modern settings, a phoerelli must wear glasses, goggles, or cosmetic contacts, etc to hide their eyes). Lastly there is the "firei`s form" which is quite like a gryphon's body but an entirely phoenix origin. All four feet are birdlike. This form is rarely taken as it often leads to trouble or death of themselves. As firei`s the phoerelli can only see in a thermal view, and their eyes are flames. They are easily prone to fight and spar until they give up or surrender, defeat their foe, or are turned to ash. When ashed as a firei`s, the phoerelli will automatically undergo the rebirth or rising, and gets a new typeset. There is a higher risk of becoming an Undead when rebirthed from a fallen firei`s.
Fire resistant, all phoerelli are fire resistant to flammable situations except for earth, water, ice, and undead. The only thing phoerelli cannot resist is full submersion in magma outside of their celestial spirit; get stuck, you're ashes in a few minutes (like drowning, but also stinging pain). The celestial spirit of a phoerelli can withstand magma. Sometimes when a phoenix is spotted rearing from the top of a volcano, it may well be the celestial spirit form phoerelli calling out.
Water tolerance, all phoerelli can get wet, but like cats they really don't like it and will avoid it, unless it's hot steamy water like a hot spring. Fire type phoerelli suffer most, they feel so cold even in a hot spring they they'll whine about a nagging cold sting and be seen shivering, and extended periods in water are akin to leaving the poor soul in a frozen lake - get that fire phorelli out before they get seriously hurt, as it can only take half an hour before ill effects kick in for fire types. Of course, water and frost types LOVE the water, respectively, so this does not apply to them.
Skillsets. There are many unique skillsets, moreso than typesets! This is how jobs are dispersed within communities, and each rebirth allows the phoerelli to change their skillset to their desired choice. Some examples for skillsets are; smithing, hunting, alchemy, enchanting, alteration, herbalist (from poison to drugs), botany (like tea blending or floral husbandry), omni-linguism, architect, builder, culinary, designer (ie, makes clothing, invents things - a highly creative mind), navigation, so on.
Typesets vs Skillsets. Every phoerelli has one unique typeset, and one skillset they are naturally at master level for. For instance, healing is the typeset, and their skillset is as a master level smith. Earth and alchemy. Shadow and hunting (ahem, or assassination). Light and enchanting. Ether and alteration. Depending on the unique typeset, the phoerelli's crest may have a particular appearance. For example, healer type phoerelli have a single crowned feather of any shape and direction on their forehead with a gemstone of any color and shape at the base. Storm type phoerelli have three feathers cresting from top of head to nape of neck all in a row. All types' feathers can vary in shape or size, but not formation. Shadow manipulators have one feather above each ear, and can also be alternate sizes or shapes; so this variation can apply to any typeset. That's only a sample of several typesets and their crests described, they will be visually displayed below for clarity and reference.
Earth
Naturally, phoerelli are all creatures of the flame, but as earth types their fire resistance is slim to none; they can burn in fire and turn to ash, so they often have a fear of fire unless they just don't like their typeset. Earth type can only create flames around them akin to a candle, and can really only light a little bonfire with this little flame. Nothing on their body will ignite. They excel at strength and also harness earth control; they can trigger a plant or rock's supernatural growth, and spark an earthquake under their feet. Crystals grow around their temples in a shapely manner, some also have more on top of the head or forehead, and feathers in any abundance, shape, and size sprout from behind these crystals like a headdress. They live in cooler settings than the rest of their kin. Earth, frost, and water types are known as a tragic typeset due to their intolerance to hot habitats. When a phoerelli is reborn in a hot habitat and soon identified as earth, frost, or water type, they must be sent away from their family to a tribe in a cooler climates so they can survive, or risk the even more tragic chance of ending up as Undead if they choose to stay and attempt rebirth again.
Frost
Frost type phoerelli can be ashed by intense fire but not nearly as severely or quickly as earth type. The fire they produce is the polar opposite of their kin, producing a blue, purple, or white colored "flame" that can freeze instead of burn, like touching dry ice. To protect themselves from fire, they can also blow, or flap their wings to make CO2 (carbon dioxide, like a fire extinguisher). They can also create dry ice with their "flame" or air if it makes contact with regular ice. Their feathers are naturally chilled to the touch, and when properly cared for with water-preening, their feathers can be used as blade-like weapons until thawed again (defrosting takes a very long time). When they fly, they shed ice like melting glitter and must preen after each lengthy flight or their feathers will snap. Their crest is always two feathers sprouting from a varied cluster of ice crystals. When a phoerelli is reborn in a hot habitat and soon identified as earth, frost, or water type, they must be sent away from their family to a tribe in a cooler climates so they can survive, or risk the even more tragic chance of ending up as Undead if they choose to stay and attempt rebirth again.
Water
Water type phoerelli have stronger resistance to fire than earth or ice, but still far less than other kin. When fire touches them, it burns them and produces steam; the pain as bad as any steam-burn. They cannot catch fire like Earth, but they cannot tolerate the heat. Their flames are perhaps stronger than most phoerelli; put one underwater and their flame is like that of an underwater welding flame. They are excellent swimmers, and can perform limited aquatic ability such as direct the flow of water, summon a wave, or cause a whirlpool. Their feathers are oil coated and sleek, more angular versus sinuous and flowy. Crests are three fin-like feathers with transparency to them, on either side of their head above their ears. They must live in mild climates, and very rarely live anywhere too hot, they can visit hot places for only a short time but will soon feel like they are evaporating and searing, eventually drained to the point of combustion and unintended death and risky rebirth. When a phoerelli is reborn in a hot habitat and soon identified as earth, frost, or water type, they must be sent away from their family to a tribe in a cooler climates so they can survive, or risk the even more tragic chance of ending up as Undead if they choose to stay and attempt rebirth again.
Storm
Not only fire resistant, but storm types can handle any climate. These phoerelli can create bolts or sparks of lightning from their static bodies that result in fire set to its strike point. Storm type are naturally very fast. They often migrate from their homes to find stormy habitats to live and prosper. Storm type tribes tend to be gypsies or nomads; they are the phoerelli embodiment of ever-moving weather and clouds. As a bolt does not strike twice in the same spot, as the storm clouds roll and rain over another town, the storm type do not like to stay in the same place for long. Storms have three feathers layered from the top of their head down to the nape of their neck forming a crested row, they can vary in shape and size.
Sanguine
It's a strange way that this type controls flame. They draw their overheated blood from themselves, which ignites on sudden contact with a small explosion of sparks and smoke building into a rather nice fire. Imagine a bit of lava making contact with anything, causing it to set fire. Or a "bang snap" or "party snapper" being thrown down. More dangerously, they can combust themselves... and others. Done by heating the blood coursing through their veins, they can ignite their flesh but feel no pain. If they cut themselves at the highest heat, the impact of their blood hitting the ground at their feet causes an even bigger combustion, better defined as an explosion. This is an act of desperation because when they combust themselves or other phoerelli, they faint and must restore their blood level. When done to non-phoerelli, the victim dies. This typeset is known to be a little "hot blooded" with their temper. Some of their feathers are sharp; which ones, depends on the individual. These feathers are used for cutting themselves or others. Their crest consists of seven feathers, five of which may form a crown-like formation as two layer down the back of the skull, making for a dramatic side profile. Blood types prefer warmer climates but can survive well in other locations if they make accommodations.
Healing
Sure, all phoerelli can do some minor healing, but none as impressive as Healers. This typeset can produce a cozy white flame in their palm, its core can be pastel of any color. Healers have mastered using their smolder to not only cauterize, but once the wound has been fully seared, the ashes can be wiped away to reveal flawless flesh. Healers can pluck their crest to heal FATAL wounds, and even revive someone near death or freshly dead. Yes, like the well-known Phoenix Down found in some realms. The head plume takes a 1 week to grow back. Healers sometimes have ornate, flowing feathers within their wings and sometimes blended within their hair (not to be confused with their typeset's crest). This typeset can look very regal with their flowing feathers, featuring a unique gem always at the base of their single head plume. Smiths are renowned and adored among Healers for the ornate frames they make to show off their beautiful gems. They are revered as a typeset, but the Sun keeps their numbers few to keep World balance. There are no more than two Healers usually found in one tribe, and as such the excess will travel to help those they come across or join a tribe in need of a Healer. Being turned away from a tribe isn't a bad thing to them, many young phoerelli idolize Healers who go on dashing adventures! They tend to be accepted as the only traveling phoerelli. Healers can live in any climate but will complain that it's chilly unless they're in a warmer climate.
Shadow
Shadows flock to fire, as its flame produces the shadows which feed their powers. As such, they tend to prefer hotter places where there is plenty of fire around, despite having the ability to live in all climates. These phoerelli can also be a little dark in mind, a little cold-hearted. Not all of them are this way, some can be quite happy, respectful, and perky. They produce flame like Healers do; from their palm or anywhere on their hand. They excel at shadow illusions. Their shadow play can either be deceptive and cruel, or goofy and adorable for comic relief. Some Some tend to be community performers, telling stories using shadow hand puppetry. Shadow type prefer cooler climates our of sheer taste, but again can survive in any location.
Light
Light types are always good natured, there has yet to be a light type with a bad temper or foul personality, even an Assisted Rebirthed phoerelli may find it difficult to not feel some kind of internal heartwarming glow thaw their heart. This typeset have a tendency to end up as Priests and Priestesses, and every Cardinal has been a Light typeset. Their flame is more like a white-hot flare than an actual fire, but can be used to make a normal fire by the flare making contact with something. For example, a magnifying glass and the sun make a spot of white that can start a fire; so can a light type but on a larger and more impressive scale and speed. They often have lacy, flowing feathers, and most of the time they are pale in color. It's argued this typeset is more regal looking than even Healers. Their head plumes sprout from their forehead and the top of their head, always flowing as if they are weightless chiffon in the breeze, but often vary in shape and size, and there are always four total. They prefer warmer climates but can survive in cooler ones with accommodations.
Ether
Ethers get their name from the rarefied element believed to fill the upper regions of space, hence the well known phrase "their soul returned to the ether" or the sky, the heavens. Ether phoerelli can produce diethyl ether in their throat glands, and spray it out while another gland expels the needed, varied chemical to make instant flame... like a fire breathing dragon. They can also spit the chemicals individually; diethyl ether was once commonly used as for anesthesia and still commonly used among phoerelli. As such, they tend to pick medical related skillsets upon rebirth. The secondary chemical's solitary effects can vary depending on what the chemical is. They can make a mean dust tornado with a simple flap of their insanely strong wings, unless they have a thirty foot wingspan, then expect a small tornado. Only Storm phoerelli can match their speed. They have no weakness to flame, and can even intensify and spread it with a simple flap of their wings to make a fire tornado. Ether types can also live anywhere.
Undead
No fire resistance, undead type blood is cool, dark purple, and flows slow as sludge. They have no real fire control. No powers aside from unstoppable stamina, extreme strength, survive without limbs, still functional when beheaded, and a long lifespan. They are sentient zombies. They don a bird skull atop their head like a mask, forged from pain and tragedy during a rebirth transformation going wrong; the skull is their own phoenix form's skull with melted flesh likely still attached, and they are unable to transform into any form at all, not even a human to blend in to society! The longer a phoerelli remains an Undead, they lose phoerelli traits and random body parts like toes or fingers, nose or and eye, an ear. Eventually, they are only left with their skull as a mask or headpiece. Their celestial spirit is essentially killed for the duration they are an Undead, and as such they are slowly rotting into a permanent death; it takes merely a centuryto completely decompose to death - yet they will still exist. These phoerelli are naturally hateful if one escapes Assisted Rebirth, and they lead very sad, angry, or traumatic lives. This phoerelli was likely broken apart from family and friends, or taken captive and poorly cared for in misery and shame. Problem is, phoerelli see this type as an obvious abomination and will eradicate them soon after rebirth, only to have the phoerelli go through another resurrection and take on a new typeset. If there is an Undead type floating around; they are outcast, forgotten, or dodging their eradication. Undead are very hard to kill, the only way is submersion into lava, focused on the heart and brain. Any remains will turn to ash and resurrect with the new phoerelli body.
When a phoerelli turns to ash and rises again, they take on a new typeset and optionally can pick a new skillset as soon as their typeset is identified. They can no longer use their last typeset, but keep minimal perks from their skillset, if changed. -

Q: Can I play my phoerelli with whoever, or phoerelli plot only? Is there a level of required activity? Can we make our own designs, and how does the ownership work for player designs?
You can play your phoerelli anywhere, with anyone. You do not have to always be active, if you just like to collect characters and art, that's fine too. You may ONLY make your own designs when a limited slot opens and you successfully claim it. All verified phoerelli will be listed above, so if a phoerelli is found that is not on the list, they will be approached and asked to change their design so it is not identifiable as a phoerelli (ie; change the legs, change the eyes, no additional wings, get rid of our iridescent skin feature, and get rid of our crest or celestial marks on their plumes), or be added to a Blacklist of Shame so everyone knows they are NOT recognized as official phoerelli. As for ownership of rare player designed phoerelli, if you intend to stop using your phoerelli, you are ONLY allowed to sell it for what you bought it for, and must make it clear to the new buyer that it is part of a closed species and provide them the link to this page, if the buyer does not want to join a closed species, pick a new buyer. Active or inactive, we still retain ownership of the species and you MUST provide a link back to this page within your character description and/or character website.
Q: How do you pronounce phoerelli?
It's actually rather pretty, to me. "Fee" as in how "phoenix" is normally said, and "relly." When I tend to say it fast, it sounds more like "fehrelli."
Q: How do you pronounce firei`s?
Fire eyes, said quickly as one word! I wanted it to look more "tribal seeming" than just "fire eyes" as the name for it stuck.
Q: I don't understand their eyes, can you explain them better?
Until I draw up an animated image of the eyes, I can explain them as well as I can. Essentially, they're like lava, magma. When their blood gets flowing due to emotional changes - becoming angry, sad, excited - the dark color cracks away and the brighter colors shine through. As they calm down, the colors return to a "cooling lava" color. Where the pupils would be, the heat is more intense and leaves the impression of "glowing fuschia eyes with nearly black sclera"
Q: Are all phoerelli related?
No, they are not. They can only breed with their own kindred; other phoerelli. So when they have run out of mateable phoerelli in their tribe, the male or female must venture out and find their match in another tribe and bring them home or stay with them in their tribe.
Q: Can I make a phoerelli just to directly copy/rip most parts of ______, an existing phoerelli?
Most certainly not. If you're going to custom make a phoerelli, please be unique and original about it. There are SO many design opportunities. There is are two loopholes, you can ASK the person if you can copy this-and-that, exceptions are the crest feather formations that define a phoerelli's unique ability type, but even they will appear different despite having set formations. Second loophole; you are free to take inspiration from my free premade designs if you see a thing or two from it you really, really adore, but please don't make it look like a replica, other elements such as hair style and everything else below the bust are highly encouraged to be more personal to you.

No. Just no. I'm going to be really strict and there's limitations to what I'll accept, such as how many people have "ripped the wings off of their phoerelli," or what other phoerelli has self mutilated to remove or alter this and that body part (excluding undead phoerelli, of course).
