The Asura
On a side note, Mercedes does not know of her Asura heritage. Her grandfather was full Asura and they keep their nature a secret these days due to their dwindling numbers and weakening powers.
Buddhist monks classify these as the lowest ranking deities. While gods try to stray away from mortal feelings the Asuras are obsessed with them, especially wrath, pride, envy, insincerity, falsness, boasting, and bellicosity.
Traits that Mercedes has inherited from her Asura heritage:
Almost her whole demeanor is an Asurian fault. Shes prideful, boastful, and materialistic. When her brother sold her off into slavery it was not only to get rid of her because of her attitude, it was in hopes to teach her a lesson in humility. If anything her attitude will be the hardest to change because it is bred into her.
Corrosive to magic. Mercedes has a high resistance to magic, most strong spells glance off her, only giving weak side effects. Magical artifacts tend to have their magic absorbed by her. When the magic is absorbed most times the physical relic crumbles to dust. After magic is absorbed she experiences a sort of high (likened to a high off of narcotics). Depending on how strong the magic is in an artifact she can have a very painful headache afterwards.
The fire that burns from her ears and tail tip are just a left over trait. Some Asura can emanate fire from their whole body, and if they choose, use that fire to burn their victims. Mercedes' fire burns cold and feels like an icy breeze on naked skin. She can not be burned by real fire, it kind of dances on her and then goes out. If she really applies herself she can control the fire and manipulate it.
