    walking_2_by_madratbird-d99n89m.gifAfter begging her father to allow her to, Ara set forth to travel to a town a bit of a ways away, as someone there wanted to commission her for her tombstone-making services. She met up with the lovely couple in question and remained there for a couple of weeks while she finished their project. A few other projects poured in, so she was forced to stay a little longer than she would have liked, but she was on her way home soon enough.

    Aranel's trip home was interrupted by the first night. As cliche as it may be, she got into a bit of trouble in the forest she had to pass through. Typically unafraid of these sorts of locations, everything was going just fine until she managed to see a castle off to the side in the distance, just barely poking up through the trees far away, its visage mostly-hidden by the greenery surrounding her as well. There was barely any moonlight, if any at all. Yet somehow she saw it.

    Thinking there was a road close to it, she ventured forth and discovered it looked decrepit and old, completely uninhabitable. Instead of sleeping out in the woods, she decided she would try her luck in the castle. Before she could get too close, she heard noise behind her - a ferocious growling - and turned to see what looked to be a sort of undead bear, massive in its own right and falling apart without actually losing pieces of itself. But boy did it look like it would!

    It chased her to the castle, and to her surprise the doors weren't too resistant. Safe and inside, she realized that it was lit and actually quite nice. The butler there assured her she could stay the night, no harm done, but she still felt uneasy. Since her arrival, she'd had nothing but bad dreams and insane experiences with what the inhabitants of the castle call "Rifts."

    At random times, should she walk through any doorway, she could wind up in a completely different plane of existence, time period, anything. There was even a chance she would see herself! But of course, she was warned not to interact with the Rift's version of herself, so she didn't.

    Her time in each Rift varied. Sometimes it was but an hour, sometimes half a day. She heard stories of the possibility of remaining in one of the Rifts for years. Aranel wasn't quite sure if she would ever experience one that lasted that long, but there was a first time for everything.... In a way, she was afraid to speak about it. The castle seemed very much alive, what with the rooms sometimes appearing in different parts of the castle rather than where they were before, the furniture in the rooms switching out with those from the other rooms, windows appearing but being unable to escape through them since, somehow, despite not climbing any stairs, she was several floors up. You name it.

    Aranel was convinced the castle was sentient or even somehow omnipotent. She felt it was messing with her, as if trying to drive her mad.

    However, recently she learned about how the Master of the Castle (which she is still uncertain what this means entirely) is able to 'summon' a Rift by focusing by one of the doors. It is one-way only, however, so though she, as the Master, may be able to pick a place to go to, she is not able to do the same when on the other side in order to get back. The Rifts relinquish her at their own pace.

    She also still has no choice in random Rifts that she may travel to.
