Welcome to the hub page of the Heroes by Gaslight.
Not just a group, the Heroes by Gaslight is a continuity that is maintained by its players. Created in 2013 by five Furcadia veterans, the focus has been on character development and story; interweaving histories and plots make up the basis of the continuity on a backdrop centered on super heroes and steampunk mythologies (with a science-fiction side group thrown in for good measure).

1. Who created the Heroes by Gaslight?
- OOCly The original concept was created by Gunnebo as a stand-alone character that quickly sprawled into a world. Joining him were the originals Jali, Johnathan Girsh, Tapanga and Tisane. IC, Vulpes R (Mr. V) assembled the Heroes by Gaslight while Danger D. Duck created the Department of Paranormal Investigations. Codo (Star Fox) leads the newly formed Nebula Posse.
2. So what are the Heroes by Gaslight about?
- Short answer: Super Heroes. After noticing a lot of players RPing as "anti-heroes" Or "evil", HbG was created to bring back a little good. IC they are tasked with protecting the Earth from individuals who would use their powers for evil purposes. The Avengers, X-Men, Justice League, etc. is what you could compare them to.
3. What time period is this set in?
- Victorian era, the date being roughly 1895.
4. Where do you RP?
- We typically hold public RP in The Golden Tether dream on Furcadia. This is when walk-up RP is encouraged. We also have a small, members only dream where we conduct RP and OOC meetings.
5. How do the Heroes by Gaslight fit in the Golden Tether continuity?
- To be honest, they don't. As TGT has the highest number of active, mature role-players, it is perfect grounds for public role-plays. The HbG are not part of official TGT canon, but we do try to involve ourselves with all members in the dream and house story lines.
6. Who do I talk to about joining?
- Any of the original 5 will be able to help.
7. How do I join?
- If you are interested in joining, it's best to RP with HbG members a couple of times. It gives us a good idea of your RP style, character, etc. If you are interested still, an OOC discussion will take place among the founding members. While this is a democratic process, all those interested in joining must be approved by Gunnebo. We are also not accepting villain characters.
8. Why can't I play a villain?
- Egos. So you roll up a villain, you come knocking on the door. Suddenly an entire group of super heroes is on you like stink on shit, beating you like a red-headed step child. "But I am all powerful!" You shout! "You can't do this to me!" Villains in the HbG continuity are handled in-house to further plots, that's all. The RP is more about the stories of the characters than RP fighting.
9. Why are there more Heroes than Villains?
- For one, the focus is on the Hero characters. Second, a villain should be something you fear, an evil force that takes an entire team to take it down. The villains in the HbG continuity are some of the most powerful creatures in existence instead of just a bunch of thugs.
10. Why are there so many alts?
- Yeah, you saw that did you? Each player has a handful of alts. This is because we have ourselves a creative cooperative so to speak. Ideas are constantly coming forth, characters, plots, etc. Instead of waiting for that one person to come along and fill a role, one of us will make a character! It also adds a lot of variety.
11. Why do some of the characters lack RPR links in the Heroes and Villains sections?
- Time. Some players just have real-world commitments and can't always finish the blasted things. If you need to know more about them, just ask!
12. How often are you online?
- Due to work schedules, players can be found online at all times of the day, though the bulk of the group can be found on Furcadia in the early evening until late at night.
13. What races are allowed?
- Absolutely no humans or human-like characters (elves, dwarves, nekos, etc) are allowed. We also only allow a few mythical races as they do not quite fit in with our continuity (dragons, unicorns, etc). Preference will always go towards real-world animals and some player created races (with discretion).
