Kenichi has the privilege of being a Vurdmeister, host to an absolutely charming parasitic growth throughout the entirety of his body. This parasite is known as Vir, and is akin to a magical infection.
What does it do?
The Vir branches out into a person's magical power (whether innate or learned) and creates new channels. Whilst this allows for different, and oftentimes more potent or deadly applications of magical energy, it drains the original 'Talent', making it almost impossible to use one's original abilities.
Where does the power come from?
The Vir is tied into heightened emotions: It does not matter whose, or what kind. This heightened emotional state taps into a reservoir of energy that is kept in check somewhere, and it is through the Vir that someone can use that energy. This is how it was explained to Kenichi.
the TRUTH is that the Vir is, by itself, weak. It would merely open new paths of energy in a body so as to devour the host. One of the original hosts found a way to incorporate the Vir's parasitic nature into his own ambitions, and became immortal... In a manner of speaking. He is the living host to the original parasites, and the core of the reservoir of energy. This reservoir is called the Glore Vyrden.
How does it manifest?
When the Vir is in use, it appears along the skin as black, pulsating veins. These do not only appear to be pumping blood, but will look as though they are moving both under the skin, and up and down. Should they break through the skin, the Vir seems to look like oil within an invisible skin, black tendrils that are neither solid, nor liquid.
What can it do?
Besides looking badass in the right light? the Vir allows for several different skillsets:
-Physical Manifestation: the Vir can be used to form weapons, or defensive limbs.
-Nourishment: The Vir cannot heal; however, it can produce a form of quasi-healing by exchanging wounds with another person. This uses a large amount of energy.
-Preservation: An odd one, this. The Vir can preserve anything, from a flower to a person. However, once the Vir is drawn away from it, it will wither and die quicker than normal.
-Etc: The Vir is constantly evolving, and so Kenichi has no idea to the extent it will go.
What are the downsides?
-Addiction: The Vir is addictive, like fine wine, dirty drugs, or tight asses. Using it a lot will cause an extreme addiction, bordering on mania.
-Lifeleech: If the Vir is not used, or it is not fed enough, it will drain the life of the host.
-Inability: The vir deadens one's normal magical ability. Kenichi is no longer able to shift his shape to another human form, devour anything in front of him, or most of his other skills as a Bakeneko.
