A coat of short, stiffened bristles, of mostly an aged gray. A long, dark mane - not unlike Arron's own hair - curls and drapes around its neck, chest, shoulders and back. Its bony, whiplike little tail lacks plumage, and consequently seems more at home on a rat.
Roughly around four feet at the shoulder and slightly over eight feet tall when standing up straight on its hind legs; the equivalent, if not quite the proportions or bulk, of a slightly above average grizzly. And it's heavy enough to fit into that frame - spindly though the creature may look compared to some of its brethren, it takes a lot to knock it down.
Low, raspy laughs, hums, coughs, hisses, howls and barks. The creature's roars sound more like hoarse, crocodilian shrieks.
The first idiosyncrasy: Black, utterly devoid of reflection or light. There's no immediately visible distinction between pupil, iris and sclera.
Like its human counterpart, the creature seems to be built for stealth and speed, rather than brawn. It's lean and wiry, roped with muscle - yet broad-shouldered and deep-chested, and the gangling build belies a surprising strength. The strong, square jaw, sloped head and tiny eyes are reminiscent of a bull terrier, its arms are more primate than canine, the digits are elongated and include an opposable thumb, and the creature often walks on its knuckles.
A skunky sort of musk, magic, dust, blood; a veritably enticing soup of strange chemicals.
