All he wants to do is dance, dance -- From a very young age, Colin has loved to dance and shown an apptitude for pairing rythym and motion. His mother enrolled him in lessons at the tender age of 5 after his Kindergarten teachers noticed that music = Colin not paying attention to anything but moving his body and encouraged her to do so; he's been dancing ever since and has even been cast in several chorus line roles for various musicals, as well as in some movies/music videos.
Ohm...Ohm...Ohmmmeditationnmmm -- Part of his 'schooling' for dance class involved meditation to open the mind to improve focus and aid with learning (His second instructor was a bit of a peyote freak and a hippie). However, meditation proved to be something that did help him calm his mind so he could pay attention to what mattered, rather than having his brain bouncing all over from thought to thought to thought. Now that he's older and has calmed down some (without medication), Colin enjoys focusing inward to bring silence and peace to his inner mind even when he's not at dance class or performing.
Stealin' UR soul, one photo at a time -- Big surprise here, but in his off time Colin rather enjoys taking pictures of things/people with an old camera he found at a thrift store. He doesn't get much of an allowance (ever) so he has to develop the film himself (when he can afford the supplies). Even so, the small-but-growing mountain of undeveloped film doesn't bother him - he sees it more as a sort of surprise: what memories will he get to relive when next he has the cash on-hand to do the work. Of course, he doesn't know that his mom sometimes goes through and throws them away...
More recently he was given a really nice digital camera (that he left at home) and a crummier one that he took with him to Hillworth. It was cheaper than having to keep up with all those rolls of film, though he is determined to get all that film developed!
Staaar Trekkin'! Across the Universe~ Boldly going forward 'cause we can't find reverse! Ah yes. The nerdiest of nerdy -- Colin is a big Trekkie. He doesn't admit it to many people (only two of his closest friends even know this about him) but he has ALL the episodes on VHS or DVD, he has the bed-sheets...the lunch-pail...the shirts, socks, underwear, shoes, hair ties (yes, he bribed his sister for them), etc etc etc. Colin can quote you any line from any episode (from any series or season too) and he speaks fluent Klingon (mostly online >>) as well as knowing the finer points to such obscure things as Ferengi mating habits, the average lifespan of a photon torpedo, and the name of the actress that played Mr. Spock's "bed-buddy" in the episode where he regressed and actually had emotions and a sex drive. The pinnacle of his collection, however, is an autographed script from the pilot episode of the original Star Trek. He'd kill anyone that thought of touching it. Literally.
Virtues:
Confident -- Colin's background as a dancer/performer have given him a grace of movement and poise that most 17 year olds do not have. He is sure in his movements and in his growing body most of the time though he does have his awkward times too. On the whole, he is self-assured and doesn't over-think the things that he does - trusting that he has the abilities and knowledge to make what he wants to happen, happen.
Patient...mostly -- Having been through the rigors of dance-training (and also having a little sister), Colin is a fairly patient person -- don't count on him to be very patient if you're being utterly stupid about something...but if he can tell you're trying? He's likely to sit with you and help figure out whatever it is that's tripping you up; be it math homework, smoothing out a dance routine or even just trying to remember what day that movie you were gonna see was. Of course, he's not very patient with people slamming Trekkies, talking up That Other Series [StarWars] or people being jerks.
Goal-Oriented -- Colin sees the "Big Picture" easily and is able to put aside his personal desires and focus if it will get him to his/the goal that much faster. He doesn't need to be in the spotlight all the time and is capable of discerning when another would be better suited to a task than he himself is.
Nonjudgmental - Not one to find reason to dislike someone just because of their race, looks, social status or even those weird little quirks that make people different -- Colin relishes these things and considers these differences to be a good thing and will defend someone if they're being bullied or picked on because of it.
Flaws:
Vengeful -- Once wronged, always wronged. Colin tends to not only hold grudges for a long time, but try to act upon them as well. As nice a guy as he can be, he wouldn't pass up a chance to "get back" at someone that screwed with him - and it's all about perception (specifically, his). Generally speaking, he's the sort to sit back and plot out his revenge - letting his feelings simmer under the surface until he finally explodes all over whomever got to him - instead of a more immediate "return" on the grudge. (Literally or figuratively; and there is little chance of forgiveness, even after Colin's taken his 'pound of flesh').
Cocky -- With his confidence comes the ability to fall flat on his face over and over again - and splendidly; Colin can be so self-assured that he over-extends himself and pushes his limits (physical/emotional/mental) far enough that he fails to do whatever it is he's attempted. When Colin can do something, he can do it...but he hasn't yet learned when he can't and so that gets him into trouble now and again.
Gullible -- "You say these beans are magic? Cool!" While no where near being what someone could term an idiot, Colin is pretty likely to believe what people tell him - so long as it's not too over the top. If you told him you'd met Mick Jagger and given him a rim-job, Colin would probably believe it (at first) - if you told him you were the president's love slave, he probably would not. For long.

He tends to give people the benefit of the doubt, regardless of how outlandish what they say is - unless he absolutely knows better. And when being told someone did X, Y or Z - well, let's just say that he wouldn't put it past that person...
Touchy-Feely -- "Personal boundaries? What are those!?" Colin is the sort of fellow that thrives on physical contact with others (even when they don't exactly appreciate it themselves). He has no regard for boundaries or propriety either and has no problems grabbing onto someone he doesn't know (think of him like a laborador puppy).
