Cutlass Blaque

Bio

• Born in the winter of 1684 in Port Royal, Jamaica, Cutlass Blaque was born Thomas Chastain to Thomasina Morley, a house servant for a prominent sugar cane family and Randal Chastain, a member of Percy the Red's crew of pirates. The crew attacked and sacked the plantation during that spring.
  
  He grew a strong, healthy child and worked the plantation until 1702 when he ran away and joined Percy the Red's pirate crew who were coming in for their final raid of the port (under Red's lead). After the crew was routed by British naval forces, Red was booted for Red Pat, Percy's nephew.
  
  Under poor leadership, Red II led the crew into a losing battle with rival pirate Fancy Dan--who had terrorized the Caribbean for years. In the spring of 1707, Red II's crew was defeated and most were taken prisoner. Chastain was taken on a crew member due to his fighting ability with the cutlass as well as his natural strength.
  
  For several years after that, Chastain was a loyal member of Dan's crew. However, time was running out Fancy Dan. Many of his crew suspected him of being an immortal demon--which he was (a vampire) as found out by crew members Bill Strafford, Bill Jones, and Chastain in 1712. The "Double Bills" as they were called threatened to tell the crew members that morning. Out of loyalty for his captain, Chastain assisted Dan in killing the Bills.
  
  As a reward, Chastain was offered "the Gift of Eternal Life". He turned it down and continued serving under Fancy Dan. As the battles with the British and Spanish naval forces increased and pirates were hunted, Fancy Dan had to appear above deck more often and was feeding less often. His particular clan of vampires didn't die in sunlight, but became weaker--much like a wounded human. His exceptional tactics kept the battles at a distance and escapes open.
  
  On his last legs, Fancy Dan once again offered Chastain the Gift, as a friend. Chastain agreed and on December 28, 1716 he died a mortal death. Just past midnight, he drank from Dan and was "unborn" as Cutlass Blaque. Together Dan and Blaque terrorized the sea in the ships The Fancier and Black Death.
  
  On March 31, 1718 Fancy Dan's crew turned against him and entombed him a chest, a crucifix around his neck. He was kept weakened in the chest for weeks while Cutlass was away elsewhere. Eventually, he was tossed overboard and disappeared in the abyss of the Caribbean Sea. Pirate Mace Kelly took over as captain. For two years he would hunt down Cutlass Blaque, having taken a Letter of Marque from England. In their fourth and final encounter, Blaque killed Kelly as well as the rest of his crew. The Fancier became a ghost ship as Blaque didn't want it and wished for it to join Dan at the bottom of the sea.
