  • Life of a Lizard Lady

    Ichthyosis really put the "ick" in Lindy's life, at least at first; kids were cruel, adults pitied her, and her own mother had trouble coping with her disease. In truth her case was mild - looking like an all over, extra dry skin condition - but before the extra baths, exfoliation, and special lotions...her life had been full of shame and self-conscious moments. Where most newborns are paraded and oogled over, her mottled skin had been covered and kept from camera frames. Hidden too was her inexplicable ability to change the color of her flakey skin, eyes and hair; at first it altered with mood, by her teens she could control it. Over time she learned to manage both strange aspects of herself, but once she met Phantasmo, she learned to flaunt it...to embrace her inner freak and wear it like a diamond-studded glove.

    As part of maintaining a healthier appearance (including drinking excess water regularly), Lindella would do yoga once she had bathed and moisturized as much as possible. Had she tried such a thing on a bad day, her skin would have cracked and bled like it had in her childhood. Her palms bore the worst of it from a particularly harsh winter, dark wrinkled scars from before her move to a tropical climate. But with that flexibility came a welcome transition into her life as an acrobatic contortionist, in a traveling circus as Della, The Flying Chameleon.
