  Paeona the Sixth
  
  Physical Appearance
  This incarnation of Paeona has a form very like the previous five Paeona, taking the form of a pure-white gryphon. Her body is light but strong like a bird and she stands about four foot tall at the highest. Her back half is that of a majestic albino lioness, her front half that of a brilliant ivory eagle with a majestic wingspan of brilliant white plumage. Her forelimbs are the typical gryphon eagle limbs, scaled with taloned feet designed for gripping onto branches or objects. Her hindlegs are the slender and powerful legs of a lioness, well built for springing and pouncing on prey from ambush. Her tail is the long tail of a lioness that twitches to and fro occasionally.
  
  Her head is the beaked head of an eagle, feathers brilliant white and eyes a vibrant blue. Her sharp beak is oddly enough the same blue as her eyes – the colour maintained through weekly applications of a strong blue dye. When not dyed her beak is a pale yellow. She keeps the feathers on her head and torso flattened down most of the time; because they make her look a lot fluffier and bigger than she is when they’re not. The talons on her forelegs are naturally white, though she keeps them dyed cobalt blue by the same dye used to dye her beak.
  
  Her hindquarters are white-furred, with powerful haunches and a long flicking lioness tail. The tuft at the end of her tail bears a distinct feathery look, but upon closer inspection is actually just fur that looks slightly feathery. It’s the same ivory white as the rest of her. Usually she keeps her tail flicked down, but occasionally glances between her legs can be seen – all appears normal back there, genitalia standard to a female gryphon of her stature. Too much looking – unless she requests it – may result in talons being brandished.
  
  While she shuns clothing, she occasionally dons a neckerchief if she’s feeling fancy. The garment is a vivid red and white, patterned with script in a multitude of languages – most notably High Gryphon, Leonine, and Archaen. Inspection of the words would reveal they translate as blessings of healing and prosperity, though one reads “Too much of a good thing can be worse than a bad thing.” She’s very proud of this neckerchief and displays it proudly, often strutting about with it on.
  
  On Matters of Magic
  Paeona, throughout all her generations since the first, has been a healer and physician. This is explored slightly more in her family history, but the important fact is that all her incarnations have been mages focused purely in the healing arts. Paeona the Third proved that none of their bodies have the affinity for other magical arts when he attempted to perform a rite of summoning that proved fruitless.
  
  While she views magic as a tool rather than a crutch to prop up her natural talents as a healer, she is not above using it to enhance her skill. She prefers magical infusions and items to using her abilities directly – this is due to the Rule of Conservation that governs her abilities. The rule is given below:
  
  Rule of Conservation: When magically healing an injury, the energy required to heal the injury is equal to what it would require to heal naturally.
  
  This means placing a spell into a poultice or other item beforehand allows her to regulate her energy usage and prevent her from potentially exhausting her energy reserves and putting her life in danger. As a rough idea, she can heal minor wounds (scratches and scrapes) without any exertion on her part, while any medium or larger cuts take a decent amount out of her. Healing a fatal wound will leave her exhausted and incapable of performing further magic for the rest of the day.
  
  Family History
  Paeona is currently the sixth Paeona to bear the healing magic of the first Paeona. The first Paeona was a healer who lived approximately 2000 years ago. This gryphon was a healer of such potency that as well as mastering the art of healing the body and mind, they were able to influence the soul slightly – a forbidden art normally, but approached from a purely good perspective. When she grew old and knew death was approaching she began to work her last and greatest magic – one that would allow her mind and soul to live on after death. While she worked on this her body began to fail her, spurring her on to complete the incantation.
  
  After one year of working on the incantation, with her body failing her and death very near, she finally completed the spell – it would split off her mind and soul from her dead body and move them into a normally unviable fertilised gryphon egg, allowing it to survive and become a new body for her. As she finished the spell her ancient body finally shut down and she died after almost four hundred years of life.
  
  Her spell worked – partially. Unfortunately her mind and soul were instead transferred into the nearest gryphon egg, and it proved to be a viable egg anyway without her intervention. This meant there was a major problem – two minds and two souls in one body. She knew this could lead to huge potential problems including the creation of a twisted monstrosity known as an Edimmu – one where the dead soul was still partially attached to the body. In order to prevent this she had to forcibly loosen her mind’s grip on the body, leaving her still attached to the world of the living but unable to do anything but act as a spiritual advisor for Paeona the Second. Paeona the Second knew of the First and what she had tried to do, and due to their link they had the Second knew that he would be a great healer. This continued through the generations, when the Second died the spell linked his soul onto the newly hatched egg of the Third – and so on. The current Paeona is the Sixth, having gained the knowledge of the previous generations when the Fifth died 39 years ago.
  
  The Many Paeonas
  Paeona the First: Female, master healer, devised the spell that carries throughout the Paeona dynasty. Generally distant and slightly aloof, but has unparalleled skill.
  
  Paeona the Second: Male, healer and researcher, scorned use of magic in preference of natural remedies, co-wrote the Gryphon Medical Journal (1st edition). Friendly and affable, zealously against use of magic.
  
  Paeona the Third: Male, mage healer, devised many minor spells and condensed them into the widespread spell “Panacea”. Does not get on well with the Second, enjoys jokes and playing games, very serious in medical situations.
  
  Paeona the Fourth: Female, wanderer and healer, refined the spell that binds the Paeonas to allow for active conversation via spirit expression. Friendly and playful, enjoys socialising and meeting new people.
  
  Paeona the Fifth: Female, physician and inventor, made many breakthroughs in surgical technique, invented the beak-scalpel. Generally quiet and a loner, does not talk much, enjoys reading and writing.
  
  Paeona the Sixth: Female, current living Paeona, general healer.
  
  Too Much of a Good Thing...
  ... can be very bad indeed.
  Discovered by Paeona the Third when defending himself, this is the dark manifestation of the Paeona healing magic. All of them have sworn to only use it if their life is in danger and, if the ability to perform this feat of white magic falls into the hands of another being, to remove their knowledge of it by any means necessary.
  
  To simplify it, this form of magic is what happens when healing goes to the point of destruction and injury. The visual manifestation of this magic being performed is black inky fluid leaking from the orifices, veins and arteries of Paeona, even diffusing through tissues to reach the surface. No energy is required from Paeona, as all the energy is taken from the target of the magic – this is a rare exception to the Rule of Conservation.
  
  Her magics in this state are those of healing, but magnified to a horrific degree. Flesh grows and heals with tremendous speed, causing agony in the target as their body wrecks itself attempting to repair the damage it has caused itself. The constant influx of healing floods the body with toxins released from continual cellular purges, leading to massive septicaemia that is healed as fast as it ravages the body. Disease plagues and leaves as fast as it came, mutating and returning as fast as the body can render itself immune. Even black magic can be considered “kind” compared to the horrific damage the cycle of endless healing can perform. Only Paeona the Third has shown this horrific form of magic.
  
  Half Bird, Half Pussy
  Sexually, while Paeona technically does have memories of being both male and female, these aren’t technically her memories. They’re memories of the previous Paeonas, and as such while she may occasionally remember what it was like to be male she cannot experience such outside of certain growth magics that she is very hesitant with. They take a great deal out of her and leave her weakened for at least a day.
  
  While she has had sex before, she does not do so very often. Her feral lioness hindquarters are adapted for sex with gryphons and other avian lifeforms, and as such they will have the easiest time pleasing her. Her favoured position is what she deems “sphinx” – all legs on ground and tail lifted, though it is difficult for her to mate with anything other than a gryphon or feral lion in this position. Standing on all fours is her second favoured position, with lying on her back a last resort due to it hurting her wings.
