Hunters are people, most oftentimes humans, who are wholly immersed in the world of the Supernatural. They may be actively hunting or providing other services such as research or weapons supply. Hunters are the professionals of the Supernatural realm, and the overall consensus is that Hunters are doing what they do to keep people safe from the unknown, the paranormal, or the unexplained things that go bump in the night. Their methods are typically considered unorthodox, immoral at times, and to some zealots and especially nonbelievers, Hunters are looked upon as satanic, ludicrous, or completely mad.

Hunters typically hail from long-running family lines of monster hunting dating back for many generations, though at times Hunters are inducted into the lifestyle by some kind of unfortunate supernaturally inspired tragedy, which then can fuel the transition into becoming a Hunter. Hunting traditions are commonly carried over into the child-rearing of Hunters in order to protect those loved ones from the supernatural forces that would mean them harm. Their greatest weapon to wield is knowledge, after all.

Hunters are generally nomadic types and never stay in one place for too long, are extremely difficult to track as they are trackers themselves, and require tricky methods to get in contact with. Despite what most would assume about Hunters, there is an organization and an infrastructure to their process, and the more elite a Hunter is, the less likely anyone will even notice as they go about their work. Veteran Hunters customarily share their knowledge with others in their field as they are a tight-knit group and make it a rule not to trust anyone beyond their own circles.

Hunters are skilled fighters, proficient with firearms among many other weapons suited to their cause, and possess extensive knowledge of the Supernatural. They are tactical and oftentimes self-destructive, completely relying upon instinct and their overall occult enlightenment. Highly resourceful, they frequently need improvised weapons and explosive devices, and as such, they demonstrate knowledge in chemistry, electronics, and reverse engineering, just like creating an electromagnetic field detector from an old Walkman. In addition, they need to be a virtuoso of escape, evasion, and silent movement, when the situation requires subtlety and stealth, such as surprise attacks.

Hunters are capable of noting behavioral characteristics in the Supernatural and can even manipulate those around them in ways that will provide them the information that they seek. They possess many abilities that are frowned upon by the law, including, but not limited to: lock picking, breaking into security systems, computer hacking, disguised conning, carjacking, and gaining an 'advantageous purchase'. They are versed with how police, fire departments, and various government agencies (FBI, CDC, etc.) typically operate and conduct their own investigations utilizing this knowledge, and know-how to both impersonate and evade officials effectively. Most of these techniques are used to gather information about the cases they're working on, though methods can differ from one Hunter to another.

Some Hunters are researchers and they retain an immense amount of knowledge on the lore of the Supernatural, able to recall incantations on a whim, are master linguistics capable of translating ancient texts, and are deeply involved with the history of the job and all that it entails.




Extensive research suggests that the origin of Hunting dates back to ancient Egyptian times and was kept secret by many clandestine societies until the modern-day. The occupation of Hunting was discovered through hieroglyph depictions of people, ordered by the Pharaoh Hapsetshut, fighting with a sundry of anomalous creatures. Particular historical references in a time of great importance for Egypt's development also unveiled monumental battles with mummies, which were considered harrowing tasks for mere humans as they were often powerful sorcerers or shrewd generals in their former lives. Egypt's history is plagued with mummies returning from the grave to usurp power as they fought their calling to the afterlife, and it’s only through the dedication of these ancient and unnamed Hunters that world history has been, thankfully, mostly human-centric.

In some regions such as Mesoamerica, instead of striving against the mystical and unexplained forces of the Supernatural, people attempted to join them. Certain sects ritualistically immersed themselves into the paranormal, such as the Olmec priests seeking to become were-jaguars. In what is known as the Arthurian legends, sorcerers and witches worked alongside Hunters to achieve shared goals. Hoodoo is an amalgam of African, European, and Native American practices, and is a widespread cultural belief in mysticism and witchcraft, and is perhaps the most prominent example of immersion into the Supernatural instead of the destruction of.

Alexander the Great encountered many surmounting victories throughout his journey to conquer a world he later called the Macedonian Empire, but as unbeatable on the battlefield as his armies were, a pike formation wasn't much good against the King of the Wind Demons, Pazuzu. Because of his tenacious mindset in all matters of warfare, Alexander formed a small, but specialized unit to deal with mystical threats; a league of Hunters. Many of their epic stories are passed down in the guise of hyperbolic myths, fantastical legends, and distorted lore, but within them are the kernels of truth from which the Supernatural derived.

Crete was the center of Europe's first advanced civilization, the Minoan. This civilization wrote in the undecipherable script known as Linear A which spoke of early Cretan history replete with legends such as those of King Minos, Theseus, and his right hand Perseus, and the Minotaur passed on orally via poets such as Homer. The volcanic eruption of Thera was thought to be the cause of the downfall of the Minoan civilization, however other evidence suggests a tsunami of possible Supernatural origins was the reason behind their disappearance. Crete is also likely linked to the mysterious city of Atlantis according to hearsay and other such spoken legends.

Now, with professional armies in a time where the world was crawling with Gods, Goddesses, and monsters of every variation, the Romans didn’t use mercenaries but relied on the might of their legions. However, within the Praetorian Guard, there was a special unit referred to as, “Monstrum Venatorum.” For centuries they successfully defended the empire from Supernatural forces utilizing their knowledge, special weapons training, and occult lore. However, with the unstoppable influx of Germanic and Asiatic monsters into the Roman Empire, they were inevitably worn down to a few members. These few separated and went off to different parts of Europe to train more localized units of Hunters. Some went to Spain, others Germany, France, Russia, and Scandinavia while some stayed in Italy and others went to Constantinople. And some Hunters could not be uncovered as their movements were lost to the ravages of time and shoddy record-keeping.

The Varangian Guard of the Byzantine Empire were well-known Hunters in their field. These semi-civilized Vikings worked directly for the Emperor, and many of the Nordic sagas come from these Varangians regaling a tell of tales of fighting trolls, ogres, and other such monsters. These were battle-hardened fighters that wouldn’t even think twice about charging into a den of werewolves.

The Frankish king, Charlemagne, understood the threat of the Supernatural while also embracing it to benefit those under his leadership. He employed the best sorcerers and alchemists he could find, and while historical records covertly imply that he went to Rome to be crowned emperor; the truth was that Charlemagne went there to acquire certain holy weapons that could be used to slay Hellish creatures. The Vatican’s secret arsenal is a wonder to behold and by that point and time, it was man's holy duty to strive against the demons of darkness. Charles Martel, Charlemagne's grandfather, was deemed “the hammer” as historical references would claim, after a battle formation, when in all actuality, he had a war hammer blessed by St. George himself to thwart Alichino (the Allurer) and his followers, banning them back to the pits of Hell.

Both sides of the conflict during The Crusades believed themselves to be on the righteous path, while any opposition was considered to be consorting with demonic forces. Most evidence, however, suggests that both parties were gravely mistaken and that The Crusades themselves were a purely human endeavor. Despite this, The Crusades did introduce European Hunters to a score of new threats; Djinn from Syria, and Golems from Jerusalem. It took a combined effort of sorcery and alchemy to stop the perilous monstrosities as swords were no match. More than any Hunter advancement, The Crusades was the beginning of the globalization of many Supernatural species bringing forth a new variety over the span of the old world.

The Renaissance was not only isolated to art, philosophy, and culture but was also a rebirth of Hunter technique, talent, and tools. Inventors in Florence devised new armaments that would revolutionize Hunting, and renew dwindling resistance against the Supernatural. Firearms were then masterfully crafted, with each bullet blessed by a priest or enhanced by an alchemist, and with each consecutive construction becoming more streamlined than the next. While sorcerers and alchemists were becoming less readily available, Hunters relied more on technology, large guns, and the occult lore passed down from previous generations. And by the 1800s with the advent of repeating firearms, it replaced the more mystical means of battling Supernatural forces almost entirely.

As much as Hunters themselves, the weaponry and methodology of the Hunt are equally important to the evolution of Hunting. Weapons, such as the sword Excalibur acquired from the Lady of the Lake, or Mjölnir, the magic hammer of Thor, play essential roles in the slaying, containing, and thwarting of Supernatural forces. These supposedly mythological armaments were and still are key components in eradicating otherworldly threats. Even the greatest Hunters would not be successful without the proper tools for their artistry.

Utilizing alchemy, spells, and other such sigils and magic, Hunters could make powders and potions to put on armor and weapons, or even sometimes cast spells to make themselves temporarily stronger. This also encouraged Hunters to practice these arts themselves rather than trusting those of Supernatural descent to continue doing it for them, something that stands as a prerequisite for the modern-day Hunter.

There are various rumors of secret organizations, such as Monster Hunters International, the more scholarly Men of Letters, and even government-affiliated organizations known as the X-Files or the SCP (Secure, Contain, Protect) Foundation. And while it seems some people have heard of these, there is no concrete evidence suggesting their actual existence.

This history of Hunting, like with all history, is forever continuing, but to most, the craft of Hunting is but mere mythology; a midnight fairy tale forgotten come morning...

A collection of research notes made and placed here. There's no order, no rhyme or reason to it, but it's to keep me informed of my own findings along the way and document it. Everything I come across has some kind of significance somewhere and I have a duty to fulfill to the Men of Letters. Anti-Possession Symbol:


Anti-possession symbols are a method to ward off demonic possession. It features a pentagram or endless knot, and it’s supposed to be drawn in a single motion. A pentacle is a pentagram with a circle around it. It’s the circle that contains and protects the pentagram. In the past century, the terms have become interchangeable. The origin of the pentagram comes from the path that the planet Venus makes in the heavens as seen from Earth. This path takes about 8 Earth years according to ancient astrologers who recorded this thousands of years ago. The upright pentagram has often been associated with pagan or white magic with one point at the top, said to give it unity and harmony, which is the reason why it protects those who wear this symbol. However, the inverted pentagram has been associated with dark magic, and where the two points at the top give it duality and conflict.
