  ~The Past~

  
  
  Darkness, it was always so dark in the underworld. Hades himself wouldn't even spend more time than needed in such a place! For many centuries the underworld was dark and silent, only the moans and cries of the dead could be heard. One dank and dreary day the Gods decided that even the dead should be allowed to see the beauty of fire and light, thus the Goddess Hekate took the ash and bone of dead mortals molding it as one would clay, she formed the creatures that would be the light in the darkness, those that would keep the darkness away and light the path of the Gods. What came of the ash and bone were to be known as the Lampades, children of the flame, Hekate's most cherished companions and children.
  
  That story has been told many a time to Kallini, it is the story all Lampade know as it is the origin of their birth and reason for their existence. She lived in the underworld for so many centuries, venturing to the human plane now and again to see what was becoming of the world above, she often would stay away for decades at a time, though her family didn't approve. She could care less, the beauty of the moon was something she looked forward to seeing as often as possible and when given the opportunity she would spend long hours in the dim lighting of the stars above admiring the beauty of the land around her, often found sitting far up in trees or atop a building looking upward happily. All was not well for this woman though, for being made of the ash and bone of mortals she was burdened with their emotions and personalities, often she would find herself mourning for souls she had never met, or wanting foods she found distasteful. She couldn't stand when these times would happen, it always felt as though she were someone else and not herself. All Lampade had this burden, yet she seemed to be the only one who disliked these feelings and emotions! Her siblings couldn't understand why she felt this way, they embraced the feelings and emotions, living as if they were the embodiment of the mortals that had been used to create them, not Kallini, she wanted to be herself, to have her own likes and dislikes, to be her own woman! Thus she left the underworld, living in the mortal world in hopes she could find herself and become a unique Lampade with emotions and wants that were hers and hers alone.
  
  
  
  

  ~Present Day~

  
  
  Last she was living in her home was a few months ago, she had been away from the mortal world a bit longer than she had thought, now there were so many things she couldn't understand such as carriages with no horses to pull them, odd devices that seemed to allow mortals to communicate without seeing one another, and so very many foods and drinks she had never in her centuries of life even thought could exist! Now she wanders this world curious and enjoying herself greatly indulging in the beauty and wonders of the mortal world, venturing and learning of all the new things she is finding everyday.
