  Kanashi Yasei was born October 31, 1321 in the great temple of Kodachi Island. She was born with a twin brother named Kunoshi Yasei. Two weeks after she was born, her brother Haku Yasei had them kidnapped and taken to village that he knew would hate them, Jigoku. Once there, they were taken in by a kind old woman who saw past their appearances. they stayed with her for 4 years before she died. The villagers, who had been kept back by her all those years, attacked them and nearly killed them. They somehow managed to survive, and then the daily village beatings began. For 4 years, this continued, and they held strong, until Kunoshi died. Kanashi, overtaken by grief, fell into depression. She held on for a year, before deciding to end it all. Going out to the forest, she prepared to end her life, until she heard a small cry. After searching, she found a small baby. After little debate, she took the baby in and named her Kioshi. She decided to live for Kioshi, and thus the beatings continued for her for 8 more years. She made sure to keep Kioshi hidden in fear for her. 8 years later, warriors from Kodachi Island were patrolling the world, when they arrived in Jigoku. Kanashi had gone out to get some food, when the villagers attacked her. One of the warriors who'd broke from the group to patrol saw, and stopped them. After that, things were discussed and agreed upon, and both Kanashi and Kioshi were taken back to Kodachi Island with the warriors. Kanashi, whose body was now permanently scarred, followed willingly along with Kioshi. Once there, they were discovered by their uncle Sachi Yasei, also known as Sachi the Wise or Sachi the Dragon King. He was visiting the island before going back to his cave to sleep. Meeting Kanashi, he decided to stay and train her. This went on for two years before Haku appeared, offering a way to bring Kunoshi back to life. Kanashi took the chance, not knowing it was Haku that had taken her and Kunoshi to Jigoku. Haku had devised a plan to kill Kanashi. He hated her because their father had always fussed over her and Kunoshi, and he had wanted all his attention. He couldn't have cared less for their mother, seeing as she wasn't his. His jealousy was enough for the demon Arujin, who had been sealed two years before then and whose youkai had leaked out, to influence him. Arujin despised Ryuga and Nakigoe, Kanashi and Kunoshi's parents, and sought to make them suffer. Once they had disappeared, their parents had gone ballistic, searching everywhere. Eventually, they left to travel the world to find them, but never thought to look in Jigoku.
  Haku had known that what Kanashi would be attempting would very well be a life-threatening thing, so he only told her how to bring him back. She thanked him, and went to revive her brother. Haku followed, wanting to see her fail and die. During the process, something happened, and Kunoshi was revived, while Kanashi somehow managed to live. Haku, seeing the opportunity, tried to attack, but Sachi, who had followed them as well, stopped him. Then all was revealed, and Haku fled quickly. As two more years passed, Kanashi and Kunoshi grew along with Kioshi, training hard in order to find and imprison Haku, not knowing of Arujin's influence. That's when everything fell apart. Haku returned, stronger, and kidnapped Kanashi and Kioshi, wanting the dream jewel to revive Arujin. Kanashi had been unknowingly born with the dream jewel embedded in her heart. He tortured them for three years, not believing them when they said they didn't know it's whereabouts. Kanashi escaped on the third year, and met the Black Fox Tribe, a hidden village of black Kitsunes. Black Kitsunes were very rare, and too see them meant you were very lucky. She was taken in by the tribe after a while of suspicion, and her wounds treated. After a month of staying there, she grew healthy again, and made friends in the tribe. One such friend was the village leader, Shiryoku Seishin. Shiryoku told her that, should she ever need help, the tribe was behind her. Kanashi then left the tribe to go to Kodachi Island, seeking help to get Kioshi back. Once there, she met Takumi Eiji, a demon of the Red Neko Clan. Takumi hated women, seeing as one had broken his heart badly a few years before, but agreed to help seeing as he held a debt to Sachi. She gathered three more people, including her brother, and set out to free Kioshi from Haku's grasp.
