• History

  Teacakes was born to a wealthy family from Frrance, south of P'ree. Her father, Henri Philippe de Valmont, first born of the Duke and Duchess de Valmont, was first in line to inherit both dukedom and duchy, alongside his wife, Marguerite Francois de Valmont. Sadly, the couple perished from scarlet fever shortly after the arrival of their daughter, Tea Marie Elisabeth de Valmont. To save her, the girl had been kept from her parents by the Duchess in the hope that they would recover, but after their passing the little thing was adopted by her grandmother, who did all that she could to keep the dear safe from anything that might harm her.
  
  Tea spent her childhood under the watchful eye of her grandmother and her staff, never wanting for anything. In her grief from the loss of her son and his wife, the Duchess spared no effort in keeping the girl from trouble, whether it be real or imagined. As such, Tea's education rarely included practical knowledge such as cooking or survival, both because the Duchess would never allow her to find herself in such dreadful situations that might call for such an education, but also because it was too far below her station to practice such menial tasks. Embroidery and music were far more suited for someone so fair, and it was there that Tea blossomed in her studies. Tutors from all over were called upon to instruct the young pupil, and though she did not receive a formal education at a larger school, the girl was briefed in all the subject matter that was proper for a lady such as herself. Snippets of philosophy and art were tossed together with refinement and poise, to make for a lovely and yet terribly naive young woman.
  
  Time passed, and eventually the Duchess did as well. Though the dukedom and duchy was passed to the Duchess' second son, Michel Christian de Valmont, Tea's uncle, the Duchess was so concerned for the welfare of her granddaughter that she made a sudden change to her will, leaving a vast amount of her fortune to the girl, along with the luxury shipping company, its staff, and the textile mills in the East that had grown during her life.
  
  And then came Guildereim...
  
  After a spell on the island, the heiress came face to face with the harshness of humanity, beyond that of the aristocracy. She became ensnared by a handful of troublesome figures, some more so than others. Very ill and completely heartbroken, the waif returned to the mainland to seek medical attention and to mend her feelings. Though she remains as sweet as she ever was, the cherub has a few more life lessons under her petticoats now and seeks to move past her prior mistakes.

• The Fortune

  Teacakes' grandmother, the Duchess, adopted Tea when her parents (the son of the Duke and his wife) died from illness. Tea's uncle, the Duchess' second son, assumed the title of Duke when the Duchess passed because a title cannot pass directly from the Duchess (who married the Duke) to a female heir. This gives Tea the title of "lesser princess," without any actual control over the dukedom. Although her uncle assumed control of the duchy and claimed the dukedom, the Duchess left Tea her fortune (which accumulated through the taxing of the residents in the area the family owned, as well as the resources that were marketed during her reign), as well as the shipping and textile organization the dukedom came into control of. In other words, Tea was given the fortune as well as the shipping company, Valmont & Co., and her Uncle received the dukedom and duchy.
  
  Now that she has reached the age of her full inheritance, Tea has complete control of her holdings and her family's business. While she keeps a small number of staff members nearby to advise her on particular transactions, Tea has become something of a philanthropist. She seeks to use her fortune to fund a good cause, and to keep herself comfortable.
