  Nosferatu (noss-fur-ah-too), noun.

  A word derived from the Romanian words Nesuferitu which means "the insufferable/repugnant one" or Necuratu "the unclean one". These terms were typically used in vernacular Romanian to designate Satan. The origins of the word 'Nosferatu' are difficult to determine, although it achieved popularity through it's use in the 1897 Novel 'Dracula' by Bram Stoker.

  
  Vampire (vam-pahyuh-r), noun.

  The word English word Vampyre finds its origins in the early 1700's from several popular travelogues. The term seemed to spread to their lands from places as far Austria and Serbia. Examples of it's use can be found in Slavic languages such as 'lampir' in Bosnian, and 'vampir' in Croatian. Although many of these similar languages have also borrowed forms such as 'vampir/wampir' from the west, it should be noted that Slavic cultures maintain their distinct original local words for the creature.

  
  It should be known that the use of 'Nosferatu' and 'Vampire' and typically seen as synonymous. Although 'Nosferatu' is a term generally used in the modern media to describe a more wild and hideous monster while 'vampire' seems to reflect a more charming and charismatic creature.

  A mythical being who subsists by feeding on the life essence of living creatures; generally this is portrayed in the form of blood consumption. In general traditions many ethnic groups seen vampires as evil, malevolent creatures. Early beliefs defined them as bloated corpses feasting on their victims more like wild animals, then the charming charismatic villain's of the modern day era. Although, there are several common abilities that seem to linger from old world folk tales.
  
  It should be stated, that below is a brief summary of traits as they are exhibited in the Dracul Bloodline.
  The older a vampire is, the more powerful s/he is said to become.
  To the point they exhibit supernatural abilities that surpass that of typical Vampire, and instead they become Nosferatu.

  • Already being dead, a vampire has no need for oxygen. Thus their corpse like appearance while at rest.
  • Their appearances are typically pale or ruddy, and they are generally cool to touch.
  • They are considered to be shape-shifters, often taking the guise of wolves, other malevolent forms, or even loved ones.
  • They usually have the supernatural ability to fly in some aspect, turn into a swarm of bats, or dissolve their form entirely into mist.
  • Tradition states that a Vampire cannot enter a house or dwelling unless he has been formally invited in.

  

  • Sunlight will typically instantly burn/kill vampires who are recently turned. The age of a vampire is directly related to their immunity against this.
  • Elder vampires typically express reluctance to cross bodies of water, especially running water.
  • The most typical defense against vampires, is the use of silver and holy relics. Although this does not seem to be a very reliable tactic, as some have shown great tolerance to their use.

  A bloodline born of hatred and grief. The curse of Dracula is said to date back into the early thirteenth century. In the wake of his wife's death, Vlad denounced God of his creed and surrendered himself to the madness that lurked within his heart. He welcomed his immortal life to the taste of his wife's blood, and sacrificed his own soul to wade into the shadows.
  
  Once a warrior of faith, it is left untold the conquests that he waged against the legions of hell. All that remains persevered is poorly documented speculation of his conquests against the Ottoman Turks. Upon renouncing his faith in God, he also lost the protection that kept his bloodstained soul innocent. Although one does not term innocence to be synonymous to naivety. It is more a term of purity of heart and virtue. The madness or shadows that you will often here Vlad referring too are actually the abilities of the demon's he had vanquished.
  
  Dracul holds the meaning of Dragon or Devil in Romanian. The name Dracula means son of Dracul, and thus also translates into meaning son of the dragon or son of the devil. Scholars believe this was the beginning of the legend that Dracula was a vampire. His tragic history and brutal tactics on the battlefield likely furthered this belief. The bloodline itself is refereed too as Dracul Sânge which translates into Dragon Blood or Devil Blood.
  
  

  

  
  There is speculation that Dracula's history is the origin story of vampire kind, is simply false. Tales of the undead consuming the blood or flesh of living beings have been found in nearly every culture around the world for many centuries. Today we know these entities predominantly as vampires, but in ancient times, the term vampire did not exist; blood drinking and similar activities were attributed to demons or spirits who would eat flesh and drink blood; even the devil was considered synonymous with the vampire. Almost every nation has associated blood drinking with some kind of spirit or demon. Dracula is simply the first legend to be connected to that all encompassing term of vampire.
  
  There is no obligation to other characters of similar species to acknowledge Dracula as their sire and or elder-- just like there is no obligation for this character to acknowledge you as one of his bloodline. Although it may be arranged through conversation and plot developments if it is something you desire. By default Dracula will respond to other vampires as if they are from another Bloodline separate from his own.
