    Nai is a monster, he has a ghost torso, which does means he also has no "real" arms or waist. He cannot use those "arms", so he wears clothes with long sleeves. With the power of animation, his scarf was brought to "life" and he now uses it as his "arms", so he has to usually hide them in public. He doesn't know anything about his family or even if he has one.
