  The concept of this Devil I have created is not based off a biblical version or based

  entirely off any single belief. The idea, that every devil like god in history in all religions is actually based off of a single person/creature. Obviously with variances, considering years religions were founded and popular belief at such time. Of coarse speaking for the character, arguably can say he appeared as something different each time. It would not be beyond a devil. And a second key concept to this character is One Mans Hell Is Another Mans Heaven. Which arguably means that he is not as terrible as typically depicted. He can show favoritism and make hell almost into a paradise all its own for a select few. Do not mistake. The Wicked are indeed punished and suffer endless torment. But what of those that just barely fall out of gods grace? Or the select few that fall within the devils grace?

• An Idea

  The character Azazel is a bit more original then typical ideas of a devil character. I hope I can help you understand but as

  I must emphasize it is a little difficult to explain. But the idea I think is original and sound.
  
  

  Azazel is in fact The Devil, Lucifer, Satan, etc. But the concept is a touch different. Most believe him to be a Fallen Angel,

  cast out of Heaven and condemned to Hell. Most of this is entirely false with this character. Azazel actually is still in reality a Seraph. He holds his rank, and he does not really hate the gods. With that said let me attempt to explain.
  
  

  Azazel, was a Seraph in the heavens. To make the character more flexible for RP, we'll say there are indeed many

  gods. But with a ranking system like the Greek and Roman gods. Angels serve the gods, Seraphim answer directly to the king of the gods. Lets say Zeus just for the hell of it. Think of Seraphim as the Praetorian's of Roman Empire. Army but they answer only to the big man.
  
  Moving on... As we may all have heard The Devil was cast out of heaven for leading a rebellion against the gods. That is sort of not entirely accurate with this character.
  
  Lets say, the leader of the Gods wanted him to lead this rebellion. In order to draw out those angels who were not truly faithful. But to prevent any future uprisings they had to make a theatrical display to deter any other possible uprisings. Thus the idea that Azazel is also a fallen angel.
  
  But in fact this was all staged between the king of the Gods and Azazel himself. In exchange for Azazel willingly burning his reputation and becoming known as 'the only fallen Seraph' he was granted Ruler of Hell as well as Free Will. From then on, he was expected to continue making others believe he was entirely an evil monster. Even allowed to curse the gods and say unspeakable things about them. Even pretend he really wanted to conquer the heavens.
  
  

  Of coarse all of this was destined to fail, because he did not really desire such a thing. But it was his duty to make others

  believe he did, again trying to scare angels into not attempting what Azazel allegedly did.
  
  

  To sum it up... Azazel is a Seraph who does serve Zeus faithfully. But he is not supposed to let the world know this.

  Like an deep undercover cop, not even angels know of the truth. Seraph, Arch or Otherwise. He is just supposed to act like he's terrible. He also must test others to see if they are worthy of the heavens.
  
  That may also explain why at times he does not seem so bad to people. It is just his JOB and he is not entirely evil.
