Broken

  • The creature's true nature is hidden. Very rarely, one might catch a glimpse of something that doesn't belong. An extra shadow. A twisting darkness. A milky shimmer of light. The uncomfortable feeling that something is watching.

    Bree is aware of the demon that exists within her, and is slowly adjusting to sometimes hearing it in her thoughts. Despite her attempts, the demon will not accept its host's destruction. It will offer her succor when she is injured by lending her its healing abilities, even when the harpy succumbs to death. That isn't the extent of its supposed charity to her, though she is still discovering just what all their symbiotic relationship entails.

    Perhaps the little bird might reveal that which lingers beneath the surface. Perhaps the demon might choose to reveal itself to someone. Until then, one can only assume the demonic taint in Brittle's aura is a simply a sign of being broken.

    Feeding

    The demon feeds off of pain and anguish, specifically that of its host. Though the act of healing others can be enough to feed it, it must sometimes be supplemented. This can be done in a number of ways, including torture both physical and psychological.

    Transformation

    With enough energy, the harpy's frame will begin to change to match the demonic essence that resides within it. Some limbs elongate while others sprout, features melt away, horns grow, and the seemingly simple stone inset within the feathery breast begins to glow as it reveals itself as an eye.

    Shadow Manipulation

    With strength comes the creature's ability to manipulate shadows. The horned brow is crowned by a roiling bundle of darkness, and said darkness is able to be shaped into grasping hands or gnashing jaws. Care is often used when the shadows come into play; they become as solid as flesh and blood, and damage to the shadows is felt keenly by the nameless demon. It is also capable of hiding in the shadows, and moving through them...though Bree has yet to learn how to coax it to teach her that particular ability.

    True Sight

    When the moonstone eye is open and glowing, it is able to see others for what they truly are. A werewolf will appear in its bestial shape, a hidden demon will be revealed, and so on.

    Those who attempt to use some form of True Sight on the demon should be aware that if they can see it, it can most likely see them. Even when dozing, the great eye is capable of spying those who become a little too nosy.

    Possession

    The demon is capable of taking full control of its harpy host, even if it usually allows her to take the initiative. She is never without the demon, and can never truly break free. From time to time the demon may choose to take control, and Brittle is little more than a sad puppet for its whims. Possession is a two way street, however. Brittle's personality has left its mark on the demon, though such has yet to be fully understood by either.
