• Description

  A blonde brat with his nose in the air, a grin on his face, and a camera around his neck. a wanna-be photographer, the kid found excitement in places maybe considered... a bit unorthodox. a small studio apartment filled wall-to-wall with pictures suspended from clothespins and clotheslines drove this point home rather well. the photos contained a little bit of everything; crumbling buildings, gorgeous sunsets, distracted women, and everything that could be counted as 'in-between'. another thing that could have been considered a little 'out there' was his outfits. the one he favoured most was a long-sleeved brown jacket; the collar and cuffs lined with fur and threaded with orange ribbon. a large bow rest against the back of his neck, the ribbons of which rest against his backside. thigh-high leggings of the same hue ended in a ruffle of fur as well, leading into slim, brown-suede boots. tiny black horns peeked through his hair, hinting at a lineage perhaps not as straight as it might initially seem.

• Biography

  odessa was born (indiana mitchell burke) some 20-odd years ago in a town not too far from here. his mother was rather laid back, but his father was a bit more... strict. odessa always tried so hard to make him proud, doing things he felt in his heart would make his dad appreciate him. love him. the man never explicitly told odessa how he felt about him, but disapproving looks and headshakes were pretty common. the boy would try to speak to his mother about it, but her constant reassurance that his father did love him, did care for him messed with his head. very impressionable, odessa then made it his childhood dream to impress his father. when he wasn't at school or doing homework - sometimes, even when he was - he was doing things to make his daddy love him. little projects here and there, a+'s on all his papers and tests. nothing really seemed to do the trick.
  
  ...so when his father died when odessa was 10, without him ever having heard anything positive from him, it kinda sent the boy into a bit of an emotional downward spiral. he kept mostly to himself for a few months, keeping himself - and his mind - occupied by counting the fibers in his carpet. Or following the grain lines in his wooden closet floor. he didn't leave (aside bathroom breaks, and the occasional meal) until he'd counted every single one. emerging with a peaceful smile, it covered up the anxiety he still felt - but he was relatively okay.
  
  the counting and following habit of his turned into a bit of a fallback as the years went by, odessa finding himself counting fibers or following lines when he had a thought or did something that he felt would make his father disappointed in him. he didn't think it was really a problem until he spent ten hours in the living room following the weakest lines. he didn't even finish - he woke up the next morning with a migraine and severe eye strain. his mother took him to the hospital, and after a long series of convoluted doctor visits and medical mumbo jumbo, he was diagnosed with behavioral obsessive compulsive disorder.
  
  odessa started getting homeschooled, and his mother wanted him to take up a hobby so that he wouldn't be entirely shut in. odessa found some old picture books of his father's from when he was a kid, and the black and white pictures inspired him to pick up photography. his mother got him a nice vintage camera, some different lenses, and a bunch of books on developing his own photos.
  
  his late teens were still trouble with his condition, but he was a bit more positive. he understood his problem, wished for the life of him that he could make it go away, but he wasn't a sad sap about it. he cleaned up into a delightful young man, taking a certain amount of pride in himself and his looks and keeping up-to-date on fashion and what was hip and popular.
  
  he wanders around a lot, finding lots of interesting places to photograph and catalogue for his life experience. he enjoys watching re-runs of the twilight zone, and exploring the places urban legends are made of - but he is secretly sometimes creeped out by them.
  
  still plagued by his ocd, he doesn't tend to keep conversations very long... but he enjoys them, and the closeness of people that can tolerate his odd personality. odessa likes the company of men more than he does women, but this causes a bit of a problem. he feels his feelings for the same sex would upset his father or make him ashamed of his son, so this makes the compulsions worse. if he starts feeling like he fancies another boy, he might feel like he has to wash his hands, or try to rub the dirty feeling away. anything further than a few smitten thoughts would land him with a far greater compulsion, and as a result odessa has to convince himself his feelings and friendships are completely platonic. it's a little more than unfortunate, because he greatly enjoys the act of sex and sexual things. when he can convince himself that it's a worthless, meaningless fling with no emotions attached to it, the compulsions are weaker and much more tolerable.
