Denizens

• Denizens...

  Denizens are an important part of any land. They're there to cause problems, and get the player to solve them. With a hearty dose of personal growth on the side. They understand that they have to play the villain. They understand that they must hurt people with what they do. But, they do it because they know that the players are the important ones. And hopefully the trials and troubles the Denizens cause might help a player grow enough inside that it would be the difference between a dictator ruling the new universe, and an understanding benefactor who knows the pains that others go through. They might fail. They might be required to end up killing the player after they had come so far, following the subtle guidance provided long in advance, knowing that they should have tried another way, but still, they try. they die. And they are always there to have a powerful impact on any session.

• Long before Session start...

  ((WARNING. this is even moreso both an opinion and an idea than the introduction seen above. It is an idea on how land quests and everything gets handled by the denizens.))

  1. quest planning... the denizens all meet up to discuss land quests, and voice any concerns or objections... once all land quests are settled, we move on to step two...
  2. Private conversation... any who wish to talk may do so, free to discuss whatever they might wish to discuss... once all of them are done, we move on to step three...
  3. last moment discussion... we briefly meet up again, so that anything anyone wished to say can be said... after that, we move on to step four...
  4. horror-terror debate... a usually brief conversation with the horrorterrors... they tend to tell you what deals they might possibly make with players, and you might make suggestions yourself if you wish... they commonly don't mention the price though. just the possibilities... after that, its on to step five...
  5. consort and sprite information... you can determine how much you wish for the consorts to understand. this can have an impact on personality... you can also tell the sprite a few things extra, commonly about the nature of the players quest, and about anything you'd like really... though its commonly the consorts who get more information on the denizen themselves... after that, we move onto step six...
  6. quest execution... this is when we go out and actually do what we are to do to the lands... this can be spread over any timeframe... for example, the intolithic could steal the greatest star a day before the land comes into being in the session, or 1000 years before it does so, leaving the tales of the star in a much more mythological state... after that, we move on to step seven... or before that, dependent on the time that step six preps in.
  7. commission... another difference between the prospitians and dersites, what wealth the prospitians spend bettering life and creating art, the dersites spend needing to pay us commission for the creation of monsters... this, in addition to their natural disposition, helps to lead to the state of things in their kingdom... paying for a fight is not a part of a healthy economy... and after that, we go on to the last step...
  8. resting, waiting, dealing, fighting, and dieing... here, we are fully in session, same as the players... most rest during this, only to awake at a certain time, or if the player comes near... the session takes place during this step...
  9. And, after that, we're all done. once the players leave the session, or if they happen to all fail... when they are gone, so to are we... to continue on to partake in other sessions... we get as much down-time as we'd like in the process though, able to be with other denizens we know, till we wish to impact the life of a player again.

• Judgement and Pride...

  Judgement and Pride. The Twin denizens. They tend to be more land based, preferring lands that involve light and shadow. They tend to go much, MUCH easier on players with absolutely pure hearts, but they will ~judge anyone who comes near who has ever took the time to properly think on something, and choose absolute evil. Pride is the Shadow, and Judgement is the Light. Out of the two, Pride is most deadly to your body, akin to a knight of doom. Exploiting death and using it as a weapon. But Judgement is the most deadly to your heart, akin to a seer of heart. If given the proper chance/circumstance, Judgement will disband their form, leaving only Pride, so that they might possess the body of another player, creating a situation where even more difficult choices are presented to their player. This, would be a very rare happening, and likely only ever happen if the player tried to bring backup with them to fight the denizen. backup that their player happened to be close to...
  Tend to give the consorts an intense fear of having their minds being effected in any way, leading to more active, defensive consorts.

• Grit-Shift

  Grit-Shift is an ecto-biological day-mare. Grit-shift is much more likely to be player based, though as a newer denizen, he has yet to find exactly what he is best at. Like how the trend seems to play out, Grit-Shift's first player was supposed to be a bard. And they would have been a bard to, if there hadn't been any, 'higher' interference. As a secondary interference, the difficulty of that particular session had been reduced ten-fold. a zero had been removed from the equation. As such, Grit-shift is very soft-hearted for a denizen, and so far has proven to be a real wimp in posing any real difficult choices. He might end up being reassigned as a minion to a more serious denizen if this keeps up, or only reserved for very specific situations.

• Triad-iviner

  The Triad-iviner. A Patron to Time players. Small for a Denizen, the Triad-iviner is about the same size as the average human. However, while most forms of space are 3 dimensions of space and only 1 of time, the triad-iviner has only 1 dimension of space, being made up of radiant lines, but possesses 3 dimensions of time. This makes it incredibly difficult to counter using time manipulative mechanics. They particularly prefer to be the Denizen to Seers and Mages, as the two 'knowing' classes have it the worst in trying to fight him. the more powerful the mage or seer, the harder it is for them to fight against this particular Denizen. The Triad-iviner has been around for a while, serving to be Denizen for a fair number of players, but they are not yet at the point where they feel like they have enough of a grasp on 'everything', to be able to come up with much more solid, trick-proof land quests. fortunately, they can rely on talking with the other denizens to help sort out what should happen.

• War

  One of the oldest Denizens Among those in the complete version of the game, once it was no longer in Betta, War is an incredibly powerful denizen, even when reduced so that a player might be able to challenge him. He has taken a number of slightly varied forms over the course of his time as a Denizen, as some players all need different things to lead them in the hopefully right direction. He's been the leader, the tyrant, the martyr, the warrior, the general... and many more. All under the name, 'War'. Due to his incredible power, he prefers to come up with ways of helping his players that don't involve leading the player to ever have to get into a direct fight against War. There are a number of ways he tries this, be it letting his minion restin, otherwise known as, 'peace', slay him long before the player ever arrives, or to let the player be able to gain control over his 6 addons, Famine, fertility, Death, life, Conquest, and Submission, letting the player augment their fighting ability to stand a better chance against him... All in all, War has had one of the greatest indirect influences ever to be had on many universes created as a result of the game. With such a record, he should certainly be able to comfortably rest knowing what good he has managed to do...

• The Protector

  The protector is Very, VERY land based. its next to impossible for a land without a direct mechanical tie-in to have them as its denizen. its particularly vulnerable to time players, as its power supply CAN run out eventually. It also tends to get things in the lands much more organized, and set up to be in a position where things are certain to be stable, even if things could be better for the consorts. this way, the player can see that they either have, or have not made real progress during their adventures across the land... however, they tend to plan out things a bit long-term, and a player that spends their focus only on what the land holds, and what challenges have been supplied to them will likely end up failing to be able to help where they are needed, with everything else from derse-prospit politics, to the state of the battle-field, and their other players, seeming to be on a faster schedule than they are... also, there may or may not be something piloting the thing.

• Prometheus

  Prometheus is akin to a 'brother' to War. He is consort based, only showing up in lands where the consorts are potentially able to be a threat to the player... Then, they usually do something that turns the consorts against the player... Their 'best case' plan, is that the consorts are powerful enough to go and slay monsters consistently, and pick up the grist themselves, so that once a consort dies, they drop all the grist that they had collected... its a rare case that this kind of motivation would be best for a player, but understanding that there is far less of a clear divide between friend and foe can be good at preventing ALL the players in the session from seeing things in only black and white. Prometheus is not nearly as successful or present as War, but he's got good points himself.
