  • Memory: Poor to very poor. While he is extremely intelligent and a great problem solver, because of the amounts of drugs he abused when he was younger, his memory suffers greatly.
  • Eyesight: Had laser eye surgery. Sees very well but because he stares into computer screens all day, his ability to see far has suffered. May have vision focus problems.
  • Hearing: Constant, terrible ringing in his ears that never goes away, from gunshots and explosions. No, he's never been in the military.
  • Smell: It used to be not so good after a chlorine gas incident left him with a reduced sense of smell. After a deliverance episode he got most of his sense of smell back. He loves scents that other people may not, for example, his ex girlfriend's clothes, her BO, even. Has a thing for certain feet scents, but he'll never admit it except to his mate, when he finds her.
  • Touch: Has an incredible endurance to pain, but it is conditional. Some times the smallest cut will make him cry out, other times he will walk around with crippling tooth pain like nothing's wrong.
  • Allergies: To milk, but he would kill you if you kept him from cheese and milk chocolate. He is also alergic to magic.
  • Handicaps: Not many. He is extremely physically fit and has lasting endurance. His tinnitus is pretty bad, though.
  • Phobias: Centipedes, the dark, small, confined spaces, heights, going to Hell.
  • Addictions: Wolves and dogs. He cannot live life without being around a dog. When he was growing up and suffering abuse as a child, his dog was all he had. He loves to write long love stories. He is kind of addicted to anger, sorrow, and depression. He has come to the uneasy realization that he wants to be depressed, angry, and bitter. Because his life is really not that bad. He also drinks. Sometimes, he drinks a lot. He is sometimes afraid he is going to end up in AA. So he tapers down his drinking habits
  • Mental disorders: He was diagnosed bipolar II. Used to really struggle with obsessive compulsive tendencies. Probably borderline personality disorder. Post Traumatic Stress from his childhood, on into crippling events in his adulthood.
  • Attitude: It depends. He used to be a cruel, and feared drug dealer, criminal, and overall bad guy. A few near fatal overdoses made him try and get right with God. Generally he is depressed and angry, but on a good day he's just depressed. He has hope one day he will find someone to love, but drinks his pain away. He has given up.
  • Stability: For a guy as complicated and emotional as Dave is, he is remarkably stable.
  • Expressiveness: Though his face rarely changes from a soft grimace, the emotions he can be feeling inside vary from giddy to enraged. His face rarely shows it, but when he smiles, it lights up a room.
  • When happy: He tries not to "Watse the happy juices in his brain." He will drink, go play online, shoot guns, or go offroading.
  • When depressed: Isolates himself and broods. Some times he drinks, but he is beginning to fear what he does when he drinks. Just wants to be alone, but his dogs always cheer him up and make him smile. He is a very lonely man.
  • When angry: He wants to hurt people. People used to be terrified of him because he had a gun and was very violent. He struggles with wanting to hurt people, but understands that God wants him to love, and not hate. He is plagued with violent visions and fantasies from his past.
  • Clothes: Boots, jeans, and a tshirt. If you ever see him dressed any other way, it is for something special. Doesn't really care how he looks.
  • Equipment: A leatherman he relies on almost daily, a Glock 21 (Which he carries legally, now) a spare magazine for his Glock, wallet, keys.
  • Trinkets: He carries a tuft of wolf fur from a wolf who bonded to him, but was killed by bitter people.
  • Money: Although he is brilliant and is sitting on patents that could make him millions of dollars, and the fact he is skilled in so many pratical areas of life, he is afraid of success and remains pretty poor.
  • Collects: Tools, food, guns, ammunition. Dave knows that hard times are ahead for humanity. He doesn't want to be as helpless as he felt when he was a child, and being abused. He will go down fighting, anywhere he goes.

He was abused as a child by men and thought it was the way to go, but ended up hating it, as it took him down a dangerous path. He tried dating women, but never understood them at all. Lately he has come to understand women a lot better.

  “You can't be serious...”
  
  Dave said, holding the chocolate bar in his hand.
  
  “You don't want to pay that much, don't buy it.”
  
  Dave sighed, pulling out the last of his money. He had just finished digging three hundred feet of ditches for laying the electrical conduit in a new construction track home.
  
  Payday was today. It was in cash. After bills, gas, and everything else, he had just forty dollars left for two weeks- including food.
  
  Dave eyed the candy bar that had little candies in it. He wanted to splurge.
  
  He handed the man the money, then walked out.
  
  “Okay, now thirty dollars. For two weeks.” He sighed, realizing it was going to be a top-ramen month.
  
  Briefly he thought of his old life- where doing few deals in the street could make him a couple grand, cash. In one day.
  
  He kicked the wet street and allowed the hope to dissipate, and the exasperation to settle in- like it always did.
  
  “Gosh darn it.” He said, walking up into his tiny, dingy little apartment in the slums of town.
  
  The lock stuck, when he smacked it, and it clicked open. His two little dogs were waiting to greet him.
  
  “Hey, my puppies!” He said, a grin a mile wide on his face as he picked his little dogs up. They wagged their little tails and licked his face.
  
  “M-Mary.” Dave choked when Mary stepped out of her apartment. A few strands of her gossamer Naakaanee hair were in front of her eye. Dave stood, stunned at her beauty.
  
  She brushed them back with a claw, her golden eyes looking into his own.
  
  Mary stood up, ears back in submission, but her eyes hopeful.
  
  “Dave.” She said with a gentle, courteous bow.
  
  “Are you gonna ask me out-” She said, when he ducked into his apartment and shut the door. She sighed, ears now fully back, casting his door a glance before walking up to it. “Dave I... I like you.” She spoke softly into the door, ears back in submission, eyes hopeful- but pained. Her furry hand hovered over the numbers over his door, ready to knock- when she closed her eyes, and walked back to her apartment.
  
  Dave stood in front of his door on the other side, fists clenched, eyes closed tightly, mouth open in a pain few could understand.
  
  He felt the tears well up behind his eyes over his cowardice, his inability to tell Mary how he truly felt about her.
  
  Coughing, his breath exiting his mouth as steam, the heaters were broken in his apartment- which was just as well. He couldn't afford the electricity, anyway.
  
  His cellphone rang, just then. Hands shaking from the numbness in his soul, he opened the phone to look at who was calling. He cringed. It was his boss.
  
  “Yeah man, those ditches you dug are two inches too narrow. We need to bury the locating wire too, man come on- you know this. Get back down here and make 'em wider. I already paid you to do this job, so this is on you.” Meaning, he had to go back and fix it without getting paid.
  
  “Oh-okay.” Dave said, sighing. His boss hung up, and Dave closed the phone.
  
  “Gotta go, babies.” He said, when he kissed each of his dogs and walked back out of his apartment, not bothering to lock it, because he knew the lock was going to stick. It always did this time of year, when the chill set in.
  
  He walked in a sort of pained daze, outside, when he saw Mary walking to her car. She turned and look up at him.
  
  “Hey, Dave!” She said with one of those sweet Naakaanee smiles, her hand so softly touching her open car door.
  
  “You wanna come with to a party?” She asked, her ears suddenly falling submissively against her head as she blushed, just slightly, the fur on her cheeks just barely bunching up. She looked down, in true feminine submission as he swallowed.
  
  “No. I can't. I gotta go back to work.”
  
  “Then let me give you ride.” She said, reaching in and opening the other door.
  
  “Stop.” Mary said when he began to walk away. Dave looked down, at her feet- he couldn't look anywhere else.
  
  “Hey.” She said softly, more steam coming from her muzzle as she spoke, because her body was so much hotter than his own.
  
  He looked up into her golden eyes, and she could smell the scent of his saline tears as they formed.
  
  “Leave me alone.” Dave said when she touched her hands to his shoulders. His skin tingled, as a warm, relaxing sensation cut through him from her soft, feminine touch. He could count on one hand the number of times he had felt this way about someone.
  
  Dave sighed, silently, looking at her face, which was so soft, and genuine.
  
  “I like you, too.” She spoke softly.
  
  “I-” He began to say when she motioned to her car.
  
  “Let's talk. I'll give you a ride. I've seen you working at Fifth and Eleventh at the new housing tract. I'll take you there.”
  
  “I gotta make trenches... wider.” He sighed as she smiled, and ducked into her car.
  
  Inside, he watched as she adjusted her dress, and blouse, and reached in her purse for her keys. He could tell she was nervous- maybe as nervous as he was. The fur kept bunching up on her cheeks, in a typical Naakaanee blush.
  
  “Look. I know you like me. You can't hide these things from my kind. Your scent it... changes.” She said, in full blush when she looked down. A lot of the times humans don't like being told they have a scent- or that it changes.
  
  “It's sweeter, more inviting when I'm around.” She said, looking into his eyes, and swallowing hard- hoping he would at least acknowledge it.
  
  Dave looked down, and fidgeted with his hands. He flinched when he saw her hand reach over and gently grasp his.
  
  “Do you want to go out for dinner tonight.” He said, looking down, then looked up, into her eyes. She smiled so warmly, so submissively- brightly.
  
  “No. Come over to my place. I'll make Spaghetti. I know you can't afford to take me out. Not if you want to be able to eat, yourself. So I'll make dinner. Okay?” She said, a shy look on her soft, lupine face.
  
  “Ah!” She said when he tried to get out. Mary started the engine and drove off.
  
  “Sorry, Dave. I want you to trust me. Okay?” She said, reaching out and grasping his hand.
  
  He was almost forty. But this was new to him. Trusting a woman. Even a Naakaanee woman.
  
  “I don't bite.” She said with a nervous laugh, then quickly shut her mouth as she drove him to work. When he began to get out, she grabbed his hand.
  
  “It's okay. If you're embarrassed. To be with me. It's... normal. But if you're not at my place by nine tonight, I'm coming in to get you.” Dave nodded, grasping her hand back.
  
  He worked another five hours, widening the ditches. Walking back to his slumland apartment, he saw Mary's car back in it's parking spot.
  
  “Shit.” He said to himself- but the way she had touched him, the soft tone of her voice- and the way she made him feel made him determined to go have dinner with her.
  
  “Dave!” A deep voice came from behind him when he blushed. He froze. He wondered if Mike could smell the scent of his desire, too.
  
  Dave turned in full blush to see Mike, a nearly seven foot tall male Naakanee grinning at him. He was so soft, Dave thought.
  
  “I'm not letting you back in there till I get a hug.”
  
  “Oh. Okay.” Dave said, his face a bright red as he wrapped his arms around the large, muscular Naakaanee.
  
  Secretly, Dave had a sort of crush on Mike. He knew now, that Mike could smell it on him.
  
  Mike held him there, firmly, but softly, allowing the heat of his body to soak through Dave's jacket and into his own.
  
  “I-I gotta go.” he said, breaking the embrace. Mike sighed as he watched Dave run up the stairs- and casting him a final, pained glance, opened the door and ran inside.
  
  Walking down the hall, Dave opened his door and picked up his dogs, kissing each of them.
  
  “Awww, babies!” He said, his smile wide. He sighed, remembering his date with Mary.
  
  “Hey.” She said, scaring him. He almost dropped his dogs.
  
  “Heyyy.” He said, a little stiff due to being scared.
  
  “Open.” She said, referring to his mouth. She held a spoon in her hand, steaming in the cool air.
  
  “Ahhhh!” She said, as she guided the spoon into his mouth.
  
  “Ah! Hawww!” Dave said, chewing, but it was good.
  
  “Sorry!” She said blushing. “I forget warm things to use are hot to you!”
  
  “Ih o-hay. Ih uud!” Dave said, swallowing, nodding at her.
  
  “Oh, good!” She said, holding one leg up, her hands clasped together, that cute Naakaanee grin on her face that Dave melted for.
  
  “If I'm gonna be your girl I better learn how to fill your tummy, huh.” She said, poking his stomach as he grunted.
  
  She cast him a cute glance and walked back to her apartment, that long, bushy tail swaying hypnotically behind her as she walked, her head turned just so, so that he saw those soft golden eyes of hers, peering at him, as she watched him, watching her.
  
  She stepped inside, then pushed the door open a little with a claw on her index finger. She peeked her head out, as he saw those clear, bright golden eyes when she grinned.
  
  “Come in.”
  
  “I'm sorry.” Dave said, stepping into her apartment.” She flung her long hair out of the way. “For what, babe?”
  
  “I... I didn't shower.”
  
  Mary chuckled.
  
  “Us Naakaanee don't categorize scents as 'good' and 'bad' like you humans do. The scent you give off after coming home, and sweating all day, that is a 'good' scent to us. But it's a 'bad' scent to you- I don't understand it.” Dave breathed in, trying to smell the scents she was used to in her home.
  
  He didn't smell anything at all.
  
  “Your arms, the oils in your hair, even your stinky feet- are all things we view as attractive. I mean, if we like you.” She said, casting him a glance that made him blush.
  
  Mary set a plate before him, then set a big pot of spaghetti down in the middle of the table.
  
  “Do you say grace?”
  
  “No. I mean yeah.”
  
  She sat down, closed her eyes and wove her fingers through each other as she clasped her hand.
  
  “Uh, God, thanks for this food, and for... Mary. And for my... job. And my dogs.” Dave nodded and said amen.
  
  She opened her eyes then stood up and served the spaghetti.
  
  Her eyes studying him closely, watching for his reaction.
  
  “You can smell me when I get home?” He said, blushing when he had realized what he had said.
  
  “Yep. I always hope you'll come over here and let me smell you from head to toe but you never do.”
  
  She burst out laughing- which scared him, as she blushed- because it was partially was true. She really did like him.
  
  She sat down and tried to eat as gingerly as she possible could- because of her big canine muzzle, many humans were put off by a large Naakaanee wolfing down their food. So she sate gingerly, glancing at him, trying not to offend him.
  
  “You can eat how you want. It doesn't offend me.” He said, looking down, and eating his food. She used a fork to quickly toss large amounts of spaghetti into her mouth, when she chewed- as silently as she could.
  
  “I've seen videos on the internet...” Dave said, chewing his own food.
  
  “Oh my gosh. The internet. So you know what I look like naked.”
  
  “Yeah.” Dave said, blushing. “You can't see anything. It's all covered in fur- I mean hair. I meant to say hair.” Mary blushed, and looked away, feigning hurt. “Huh.” she squeaked.
  
  She smiled. “I'm just kidding, Dave. I know most people consider it fur. Technically it is hair, though, it has all the qualities of hair, and it's soft like hair, not coarse like fur. See?” She said, laying her arm next to him.
  
  “Touch.” She said with a grin. “Please?” She begged, her head cocked to one side, that cute Naakaanee grin on her face.
  
  Dave wiped his mouth and touched her arm.
  
  “It's soft.” He blushed.
  
  He felt the air change between them. The hair stood up on the back of his neck. Mary had to look away as she collected her thoughts, then down. She swallowed.
  
  “Look I... I like you, Dave. That means I am willing to submit my heart to you. Even... my body. But not yet, okay?”
  
  “Are you an Oath Keeper?” He asked, remembering an article he had read online s he researched her people.
  
  “I want to be. I mean...” She said, her ears going back against her head as she sighed. Dave saw a pain in her eyes as she sort of... withdrew into herself.
  
  “I've made some mistakes, I...” She said, looking at him, her gentle eyes pleading with him for affirmation, for forgiveness.
  
  “I've made them, too, Mary. If you knew... What I've done...” He said, wincing, trying not to cry. He played mindlessly with a fork full of spaghetti.
  
  Mary looked at him, forcing herself to see his pain, to understand how he hurt inside.
  
  “You wouldn't be having me over here, right now.” Dave said, flatly setting the fork down, then looking away, ashamed.
  
  He flinched when he heard her chair fall back as she stood up and walked over to him. He flinched with a gasp when he felt her strong arms wrapping around his tense body.
  
  He shivered when he felt her hot, hot tongue touch, and travel slowly up his neck.
  
  Dave tried to struggle, but she held him, there. She was three times his strength.
  
  “Stop.” She said so softly, the hair stood up on the back of his neck. She relaxed- and then so did he.
  
  “I smell the scent that sticks to you when you see Mike. Even when you kiss your dogs, sometimes. I know... I know, Dave. You do not have to be afraid any more.”
  
  The tars came and Dave knew there was no point in holding them back. She was too kind, too soft, and she was offering him her heart- already, even before she knew had his. It was a tremendous risk for her- or for a human woman, for that matter.
  
  “That's not all.” Dave said, through the tears.
  
  “I used to sell drugs. Hard drugs. To people with families. I... I helped destroy lives.. marriages...” He said, his face beginning to distort as he felt all of the pain he caused, crashing down all over him.
  
  “I've never smelled the scent of drugs on you. I've never seen you handing things to people and taking their money. That's in your past. I believe in your future, Dave. I believe in you.”
  
  He grasped her arm tightly, pulling on her hair, as Mary closed her eyes, taking the pain from him- for him. She guessed he wanted to hurt her to drive her away. But she wasn't going to leave him. He released her arm hair and relaxed, sobbing as she held him.
  
  “I'm stronger than you. So don't try anything. But I want you to get up, and follow me to my bedroom. We're going to hold each other, okay?” He looked into her soft, willing eyes and nodded.
  
  Mike followed, her, as Mary glanced back at him, her face wearing a warm smile, her hand gently holding his own.
  
  “Come on.” She said, patting her California King sized bed.
  
  He watched as she flicked her hair behind her head, casting him a look he knew she couldn't help- but didn't mean. On her bed, she had given many men that same look- before they took her.
  
  She sighed as she lay on her side, rubbing the bed behind her butt as she looked at him.
  
  “Come on. I want you to hold me. After, if it's okay with you, maybe I could hold you, too.”
  
  “Sure.” Dave said, swallowing hard, he climbed onto the bed, and lay behind her.
  
  “You can't hold me like that. Scoot in.” She said, pulling his body fully behind her. “Imagine you love me, Dave. How would you hold someone you love?”
  
  Dave closed his eyes. She had a point.
  
  Hands trembling, he reached around her belly, pulling her warm body into his own.
  
  She felt him grow tense as he blushed, she smelled the scent of his embarrassment, and raw male desire.
  
  Mary smiled. “Don't worry, Dave. I'm flattered. It's hard not to when you are so close to someone you care about. Don't worry.” She whispered softly in understanding, caressing his arm.
  
  Dave closed his eyes and sighed.
  
  Soon, he began to grow weary. As he sighed away the stress, the pain, he began to feel a warmth, a connection grow. Mary sighed, relaxing in his arms as she, too, let her defenses down.
  
  He caressed her belly as she relaxed with a sigh, pushing her butt into his crotch, just slightly. She blushed, and he could feel it.
  
  “Sorry.” She whispered, softly.
  
  “It's okay. Let it, uh, die down, and then you can be the big spoon.”
  
  “Okay.” She said, rubbing his leg.
  
  About a half hour later, she got up, brushed back her hair, and climbed in behind him. Dave closed his eyes. No living thing had had a reason to be behind him, except for one thing.
  
  He tensed up, a pained, worried look on his face over what had been done to him, before.
  
  “I don't... Dave I'm not going to...” She said, touching his arm when he flinched.
  
  “I just want to protect you. Love you. I will always be here for you, Dave. May I?”
  
  He nodded, still curled up defensively.
  
  She lay behind him, and pulled his body into her own. Her sweet, healing warmth soaked deep into his back, and body as she wrapped him in her arms.
  
  “I've wanted to do this for years, Dave. Sorry.” She said with a chuckle.
  
  “I see so much pain you carry, a burden that weighs you down, and I want to take it from you.”
  
  “How?”
  
  “By loving you.” She whispered softly in his ear, with a cute smile.
  
  “But that comes later. Now, I am just your friend. We need to see if this will work between us, then we can move on. Are you okay with that? I don't want to be... a slut. Not anymore.” She said, trailing off and blushing. He held her arms tightly. Dave thought the world of her. Her past didn't affect the way he felt about her.
  
  But he was sure his past, if she knew all the details, would make her hate him.
  
  “I've always liked you.” He whispered, rubbing his nose in the hair on her arm, and taking in her exotic Naakaanee scent, sweet, and alien.
  
  “I never paid much attention to you. Then one day, in the hall...” She said gently caressing his arm.
  
  “I saw you, you looked so tired coming off of that bus. It was like... you were fighting something deep down. Some lust, some fear, something that has a grip on your soul, your heart. I scared you, remember?”
  
  “Yeah.” Dave said, feeling at one with her, snuggling deeper into her strong arms.
  
  “You smelled like days old sweat. You'd been working so hard... But there was something else- you weren't scared of me. Your scent got all sweet like you liked me.”
  
  “I'm not scared of Naks.” Dave said, defiantly. “Huh.”
  
  Mary tickled him as he tensed up.
  
  “Yes huh. Everyone's scared of werewolves. Rawr.” She giggled and continued.
  
  “I could tell you liked me. Maybe it's the things you read on the internet about us. Our bodies are HOT.” She said, poking him as he glared at the wall. She laughed.
  
  “I liked your spirit, your heart, Mary. It was you I was in love with.”
  
  “And you just... never said anything. For years.” She said, pushing a blunt claw into his side.
  
  “At the time I was going through stuff, yeah. Just. Like, everything. I couldn't say anything to you. How could you... could you love someone like me? You're way out of my league.”
  
  The tears streamed down his face over how unworthy he felt being in the presence of someone like her. His crush, his love for years.
  
  “When I saw you get a boyfriend, I died inside. And then he left you and you got another, and another...” he said as she jammed a claw into his back with a pained sigh .
  
  “GAH!”
  
  “I don't want to be that way any more. I want a man who will love me, and only me, for the rest of my life. If that's not cool with you, you can go back to living the way you've been living. Alone. But if that's cool, then maybe we can make something work.” She said, running her hand down his arm.
  
  “Yeah. I guess so.” He said, caressing her arm, and considering all of the ways he himself no longer wanted to be alone, or living in his past, either.
  
  “Yeah. That'll work.” He said, turning in her arms to face her. She tucker her muzzle down to her chest so he could see her eyes.
  
  She smiled, the warmth of her expression and her body so inviting.
  
  Mary looked down, sensing his thoughts, as her kind were at least partially empathic. She looked back up into his eyes and smiled, sighing as he took in her sweet breath.
  
  “I'd like that very much.”
  
  “Good.” She said with a sweet grin.

  “You're familiar with the Oath.” Mary said, sitting across from him, at the table.
  
  “I am.” Dave said, leaning back. He was trying to wrap his mind around the solemnness of uttering such words to someone.
  
  “I haven't given my oath to anyone. But I have given my body to plenty of men.” She said, ears back, with a pained sigh, and a sorrow in her eyes that Dave knew all too well.
  
  He looked into her eyes, leaning forward, he took her hands in his own.
  
  “So have I.” He said when she blushed.
  
  “Really? I mean I kind of... Knew that...” She said, glancing at him then looking away, her blush growing.
  
  “Mike, you know...” “Yeah.” Dave said with a sigh.
  
  “You guys ever...”
  
  “No. I've been celibate for seventeen years.”
  
  “Gah.” Mary said, still blushing as she considered what it would be like to be alone for so long.
  
  “When I lost my virginity, it opened a doorway in my mind, made me want things, that I didn't want before, and made me want them badly, like all the time. It's taken a long time to train my body, my mind, not to control me any more. It's that I don't want those things anymore... I just deny myself, you know?”
  
  “I know.” Dave said, holding her hand tightly.
  
  “How many girls you been with. My kind or yours...”
  
  Dave blushed.
  
  “N-none.” He said, pulling his hands away when she grabbed them.
  
  “If things work out between us... If you want to spend the rest of your life with me... and me with you... Then I will be your first?”
  
  Dave nodded, blushing until his cheeks felt like they would practically melt right off his face.
  
  “Oh my gosh...” She said, blushing, then drawing in a deep breath, and letting it out.
  
  “I wish you could be my first.” She said, giving him look that made him swallow.
  
  “Maybe, in a way, I can be. Maybe God can restore your heart, so it's like that.” Mary nodded. “They don't talk about stuff like that in church, but who knows, maybe. It never hurts to ask God, right?”
  
  Dave nodded.
  
  “He's helped me to overcome a lot. But it's painful... Not wanting what I want more than anything. And wanting what I don't want.”
  
  “Like me.” She said, holding his hands tightly.
  
  Dave looked away.
  
  “When I was growing up, the girls picked on me terribly. I'd go home and suffer at the hands of my dad, he'd beat me and... I have whole years of my life that are just... missing. It was like those girls wanted to hurt me worse than I already was. It... It scarred me.”
  
  “I can see that. I won't... scar you. Not if I can help it. Okay?”
  
  Dave nodded.
  
  She sighed, looking deep into his eyes.
  
  “So much pain between us, Dave.” She spoke so softly. Before he realized what she was doing, her lips were pressing against his. He closed his eyes as she kissed him, then withdrew, sitting back down from across the table.
  
  “You are worthy, Dave. Worthy to be my man. And I am worthy... worthy to be your girl.”
  
  Dave felt goosebumps erupt on his arms over her words. She smiled.
  
  “No matter what you were involved with in the past... I'm okay with that. But leave your past your past. And I will do the same.” Dave nodded, holding her hands tightly.
  
  “If you struggle with things... and I know that you will. I am always here for you.” Dave nodded.
  
  As Dave got up to leave, she shouted- “Come by tomorrow night for enchiladas!”
  
  “I wouldn't miss it for the world!” Dave said, then blushed as he walked into his own apartment.

  It was the third time he'd seen that car that day. The hair stood up on the back of his neck as he stepped into his apartment complex.
  
  When he opened his apartment door, his face went white.
  
  Both of his dogs were dead.
  
  And his former crimey Vittorio sat by his kitchen table.
  
  “You don't call, you don't write...” Vittorio said with a chuckle.
  
  “Eh, I didn't like them barking all the time so I just.. snapped their little necks.” he said, his hand towards Daves dogs.
  
  “Hey, but it's okay. I know you got that cute little piece of tail next door... Whats her name.. Bloody Mary?” He chuckled cruelly.
  
  “You leave her out of this. I'm done. I told you. I don't sell drugs anymore. I don't do those things I used to do.”
  
  Dave looked at his dogs bodies and clenched his teeth. The tears came burning behind his bloodshot eyes.
  
  “I'll leave her out of it. Maybe. But I got something for you to do. You still got your connects for moving product. Names, numbers. I have five tons of H I gotta move by next week. Do this job and you're clear. I'll leave you and the little lady alone. Don't do it, and I'll make you watch as I rape her, then kill her like I did to your little doggies.”
  
  “You FUCK.” Dave said, the rage growing behind his eyes.
  
  Vittorio laughed, his two henchmen laughing, and staring at Dave.
  
  Just then Mary stepped through his door.
  
  “Oh hey! If it isn't the missus!” Vittorio said. “We were just talking about you!” He eyed Dave, knowing he would never give him his contacts. This was all just a waste of time.
  
  “You getting a piece of tail, huh man? I heard they were hot...” he said eyeing Mary.
  
  Dave backed up into Mary when a henchman pulled out a large suppressed pistol.
  
  “Both of you in. Now. The tail, too.” He said, licking his lips.
  
  “I ain't never had a Nak bitch before. But I might tonight.”
  
  “W-what's this about, Dave?” Mary asked submissively, her hands gently clasped together.
  
  “This piece of shit used to operate through my connects.” Dave said with a tone, and a rough accent she had never heard from him before.
  
  “You leave her alone and I'll give you what you want. Touch her and those names die with me.”
  
  “Oh, I'll touch her... and you WILL give me those names.” He said, standing up as one of the men grabbed her.
  
  “Gimme some tail, baby.” He said, walking up to Mary who winced. She pleaded with Dave with her eyes as Vittorio walked up to her.
  
  “No.” She said softly. Vittorio nodded as his henchman put a bullet in her. She collapsed to the ground, wincing as Dave screamed, and fell to her side.
  
  “You know, a part of me just knew you'd never give those names up.” He said, a gun held to Daves head.
  
  “I'm so sorry!” Dave said in tears as Mary looked at him and smiled. “It's okay.” She mouthed, blinking slowly.
  
  “For as long as I shall live, my heart, my body, my life- belong to you. You are my Bond, my Oath, Dave. I will always love you.” She said, reaching out and taking his hand, touching his face. Tears fell from her eyes.
  
  “Aww, real touching. Say goodbye, you fuck.” Vittorio said, squeezing the trigger of his pistol.
  
  Dave's blue eyes turned grey. Reaching into his boot he pulled out the small dagger he always kept with him...
  
  For just a time as this.
  
  Before Vittorio's henchmen could say a thing, it was in his hand, when he swung it forward, Dave stuck it deep in Vittorio's carrotid artery then jerked it out as it sprayed across the room. He screamed, gurgling and choking on his own blood.
  
  Dave threw the blade it into the neck of the shorter henchman, then grabbed Vittorio's gun, and shot the other henchman.
  
  Dave walked over to the fallen henchman who had shot his Mary, then jerked the dagger out. He pleaded with Dave wide- eyed for mercy. Dave looked at Mary's dying body and kicked him in the throat. Pulling his head up by his hair, Dave sawed into his throat until both arteries were severed. Standing up, hands drenched and dripping with blood, he took Vuittorios gun and put two more in the base of the other henchman's skull.
  
  Vittorio lay on the floor, gurgling and gagging, wide eyed, and terrified his end had finally come.
  
  Hand shaking, drenched in his own blood, he pleaded with Dave. But Dave was not having it, and put a bullet in each of his eyes.
  
  Falling to his knees, Dave collected Mary, who was almost gone.
  
  “Mary, for as long as I live, my body, my heart, my...” He said, repeating his Oath to her when she stopped him. A trickle of blood fell from her mouth as she shook her head.
  
  “It's too late for me. Save it, my sweet man. Save it for someone who will love you for who you are. Who won't judge you for your past. I am so tired, Dave...”
  
  He held her close to him, until he felt her body go limp.
  
  “NOOOO! GOOOOD!” he screamed.
  
  ~
  
  Dave stood outside of the Federation of sciences building. His friend Erick worked there.
  
  “Hey.” Dave said when Erick got out of his car.
  
  “Hey dude! Oh my gosh man, you look terrible!” Erick said, putting his arm around Dave.
  
  “I want to go to that place... You told me about in that email.”
  
  “That's a one way trip, man. You don't want to do that.”
  
  “If I stay here something bad is going to happen. To me, to everyone I love. I have to go... There is nothing left for me here.” Dave said, shaking his head, the tears welling up behind his bloodshot eyes.
  
  “Come on.” Erick said, opening the door to the Advanced Sciences building and letting Dave in.
  
  “Sit here. I'll bring us some coffee.” “Thanks.” Dave said, sitting on a cold metal chair. Machines whirred around him as he looked at them, screens showing graphs, data, glass tubes carrying strange colored fluids, and the thick scent of ozone tingling in Dave's nose.
  
  Erick returned with a cup.
  
  “We call it 'Furcadia' because everything there's got fur. Well, what we could see from the satellite pictures we got before the loop closed.”
  
  “Loop?”
  
  “Yeah. The planet is located out there, man. Farther than anything we've been able to reach before. And it exists through a kind of static. So far we've been able to send a satellite there, we got videos, pictures, but the planet itself isn't worth mining, so it's kind of a personal project more than a Federation one. Basically they have no interest in it. You'd be safe, there.” he said, eyeing Dave.
  
  “We can send your body there, man, but nothing metallic. Like your clothes must match theirs, sort of a nineteenth century garb. It all has to be sewn together. We did see some humans there...”
  
  “I can't bring my guns? A knife, even? What about those suitcase nukes we made...”
  
  “None of that.” Erick grimaced. “Why would you want to bring nukes- Nevermind. The solar array window opens up again in two weeks. I can transport you there via guided wavelength... But man, I can never bring you back. Once you're there, you're there for good.”
  
  Dave closed his eyes, remembering seeing her body there, in his arms, and looking into her eyes as she knew her time was up.
  
  “I'll do what I have to do. Just get me there in two weeks.” “Alright.” Erick said, leaning back and eating some noodles he had brought.
  
  “Wanna play Arma?” He asked. “Not today. I've got some clothes to sew together.”

  Dave stood inside of a circular glass tube. Erick held signs up to him so he knew what to do.
  
  “Hold your breath- as long as you can.”
  
  “You ARE going to pass out.”
  
  “It IS going to hurt!!!”
  
  Dave sighed as he read the signs. He held his hand against the glass as Erick did the same, then solemnly made the Spock V-finger sign.
  
  Dave laughed- but Erick was serious.
  
  Erick wrote down on the sign and showed it to Dave.
  
  “No Glocks there. No guns, only flintlocks. Be happy, bro. Find love. Grow old. I will miss you.”
  
  The process of taking Dave's body apart and turning it into light was excruciating. Dave screamed, until his screams were no longer sound, but beams of light in the ether.
  
  Erick directed him towards the strange, primitive land, and shot him out there via megawatt powered laser strobe, outside of the visual spectrum.
  
  Dave re materialized a moment before he hit the ground, falling into a very thorny bush. He screamed, then quickly held his tongue- as he wasn't sure what creatures were around.
  
  “A Hyooman! A Hyooman!” A wolf like creature said before running away on two legs. Dave threw up, the process of being taken apart and rematerializing making him woozy. He suddenly felt very tired- and closed his eyes as the weariness carried him away.
  
  When he woke up, it was night on Furcadia. A fire nearby crackled and popped as the scent of cooking meat came to his nose.
  
  “What a fucking nightmare. I dreamed I was this poor ditch digger, and I was dating this Nak girl, and then an old buddy came back to kill me...” He said, looking up into the eyes of a petite fox girl.
  
  “Oh God, I'm not dreaming. Am I.”
  
  “No.” She said, softly touching her hand to his forehead.
  
  “I know where your kind are, and I will take you to them. But for now, you must eat. You look as pale as the moon.” She said, looking up into the sky, then back down at Dave.
  
  Dave ate her food, and tried to keep it down. He passed out, again, looking into her kind eyes.
  
  When he awoke, there was a cool mist that blanketed her land. He searched for her, but did not see her.
  
  “The Wyrmmes are about.” She whispered, frightening him. “Come.” She said, moving effortlessly out from some brush and grabbing his hand. She was not as strong as a Naakaanee, he correctly surmised.
  
  She led him down a hillside and into a ravine, always looking around her for the unseen Wyrmme.
  
  “Your people are not far from here.” She said, looking into his eyes. Dave nodded, remembering Mary.
  
  “Why do you cry?” She said, pulling Dave under some rocks. She wiped his tears with a small, sweet smelling piece of leather.
  
  “Are you hurt?” She asked, her head cocked slightly, her soft hand touching his face.
  
  “No, I just... I lost someone. Someone I loved very much.” He said, looking into her eyes.
  
  N'hareff looked down.
  
  “I, too, lost a mate. The Wyrmmes took him. He's now a slave.” She said, grasping the towel tightly in her little hand, when she took his hand, again.
  
  “Come.” She said, her eyes no longer as soft as he had seen them before, recalling her mate. She pulled and pulled, running on her skilled digitigrade legs, until he could smell the scent of more cooking meat in the air.
  
  “Your people are there.” She said, pointing, when he turned to thank her, she was gone.
  
  Dave walked into the human camp, where people stared at him, dressed in old style, nineteenth century garb.
  
  A man came out of the smoke and approached him, his hand held out to Dave. Dave took it as the man in his forties, with long, curly hair and a beard, pumped his hand.
  
  “Not seen you before, stranger! Welcome to our camp!” He said, patting Dave on the back as he guided Dave into his camp.
  
  Past the smoke Dave saw hundreds of adobe houses, tents, and crude structures as humans and animal people walked about. Some humans held hands with the animal people they walked with.
  
  Eyes, golden, brown, blue, jade, and yellow were on him as he itched his arm and walked with Darrian, the village leader.
  
  “So what brings you do D'haresh?” he said, handing Dave a cup of meade. Dave took it and drank it down.
  
  “Thirsty, huh!”
  
  He patted Daves back with some force, and a genuine smile.
  
  “As you can see we get along with every race, here. Tail or no tail. Everyone is equal and welcome. So why have you come here, stranger?”
  
  “I need... I need...” Dave stammered, trying not to break down. Darrien saw it and comforted Dave.
  
  “I lost... everything...”
  
  “Because of the Wyrmmes...” Darrien said, his hand in a fist.
  
  “No... Yes. Because of the wormies. Yes. I need... I need a new life.” He said, breaking down as Darrien held him. Several concerned creatures walked up to Dave to comfort him. He looked into the loving eyes of several cat people, dog people, wolf people, even a bird person.
  
  “It looks like you have never seen their kinds before!” Darrien said with a hearty chuckle.
  
  “All are welcome. Even you, Dave.”
  
  Out of the smoke, a tall, familiar looking creature walked up to Dave. He was the equivalent of a male Naakaanee.
  
  “Name's Abraham. You're welcome to stay at my camp.”
  
  “Do it, stranger, Abraham is a good man. He gives everyone a chance. Let him get you familiar with our little town, and you can start a job!”
  
  “That... that sounds good.” Dave took Abraham's light grey hand, as Abraham pulled him up.
  
  Dave blushed when Abraham put his arm around him and walked him down the street.
  
  “Are you good with your hands, stranger? We need new irrigation trenches dug!” He said with a laugh as Dave sighed, his face a little annoyed.
  
  “Uh. Yeah. Sure.”

  Months passed. A year, then two. Dave worked with his hands, digging trenches, until he had earned enough credit to become an apprentice blacksmith.
  
  “I am concerned for you, Dave.” Abraham said, a woman hanging off of his shoulder.
  
  “I think you need to find love... there is a wonderful, single Wyrmme lady who just came into town the other day, she...”
  
  “No.” Dave said, flatly refusing.
  
  Abraham's eyes furrowed.
  
  “Are you sure, she's right over-”
  
  “No, I said, but thank you.”
  
  Abraham leaned forward and spoke softly into Dave's ear,
  
  “I smell that sweet musk around you when you are around me. I like girls... That's it. You like them, too, I see how you look at Margarite, the female of my kind. You like her- but she has a mate. Dave, you need to find a mate, be it male-”
  
  “No.” Dave said, looking into his eyes and shaking his head- not denying how he felt, but denying the possibility of it ever happening, again.
  
  “Female, then. But you need someone. That sweet scent you emit is growing stronger. People are starting to talk, asking, why haven't you taken a mate for yourself?”
  
  Dave tried not to focus on how close Abraham was to him, nor the sweetness of his breath as it caressed his cheeks, and ear. Dave looked down, hoping Abraham didn't suddenly ask him to dance, or something.
  
  “You are a good worker and you deserve... relief.” Abraham whispered in Dave's ear. Close enough to get a reaction out of him.
  
  He was right. Daves desire had grown and grown... It was always like that. It took months, usually... But it had been years for him, now.
  
  “If you refuse to take a mate, then go, find relief. There is a place on an island nearby called the Golden Tether. There are people there, of all kinds, who will give you relief for your desires, at a price.”
  
  “I don't have any money.” Dave said flatly.
  
  Abraham pulled out a large bag of gold, and put it into Daves hand, then closed his fingers around it.
  
  “Consider this A gift. From one good friend to another. It needs no paying back, understand? I love you, Dave. Just not like, maybe you wish I did.” Abraham blushed and smiled sheepishly.
  
  Abraham reached under Daves shirt as he closed his eyes and sighed, using his smooth, blunt caws to send chills up and down Dave's spine.
  
  Abraham spoke into Daves ear again, very, very closely...
  
  “Find relief, Dave. You will always have a place here with us. Come back when you are have found some kind of peace.”
  
  The smooth, bare palm of his hand gently caressed Dave's bare skin as Abraham stood up, taking his woman and disappearing into the night.

  Dave boarded the sailboat with a blush, the bag of gold tied to his belt.
  
  He couldn't look up.
  
  Suddenly a claw touched under his chin as a bird man raised his face up.
  
  “Name's Draco. What's yours?”
  
  “Dave.”
  
  “Don't be ashamed, traveler. Everyone needs love, friend.”
  
  “Yeah but, they have to do what we say, they are slaves.”
  
  “Well trained, indeed. Their lives aren't so bad. You will see when you get there. Whomever you choose will make you satisfied. Then you can return to your life, or sample even more women, if you want.”
  
  “Ah.” Dave said, more or less disgusted at that thought.
  
  Disgusting thoughts of the filthy things he had done when he was back on Earth went through his head. Dave closed his eyes and sighed.
  
  “Have no guilt, friend. Many beautiful women there just love human men.”
  
  Arriving at the shore to the island, well dressed workers took the mooring and tied the ship off.
  
  Dave got out, the cool ocean mist refreshing in his dry nose.
  
  A very well maintained road led to a building where the workers were kept. It was enormous.
  
  Dave felt Draco wanting to run into the building, but stayed by his side, again.
  
  Tall, magnificent guards stood at each side of the entrance where Dave and Draco were entering.
  
  A beautifully dressed female cat girl held a golden platter with various refreshments as she looked Dave up and down.
  
  “Don't get many humans here. But welcome.” She held her hand out to Dave, who took it, and kissed it. She grinned, giving him a warm look.
  
  He correctly guessed she was available for rent.
  
  “Ah, this is where we part ways, friend. Best of luck to you!” Draco said as his escort came to bring him into the chambers of his favorite girl.
  
  “What's your pleasure?” A short, raccoon girl said to Dave. Her eyes sparkled under the gas lamps that lit the place.
  
  He looked down at her. “Wh-what?”
  
  “Do you prefer men or women, girls or boys, and of what race, or races? Multiples can be arranged, if you want...”
  
  “I prefer girls. Women! I mean women.” He said with a blush. At the Golden Tether, everything and everyone was for rent.
  
  “As you wish.” She took his hand and led him down a hallway to where the well trained, trusted, and more expensive slave girls were kept. Of every race he could imagine, they danced, giving him seductive looks shaking their butts as their tails swished seductively for him, their warm eyes locked onto him, smiles and grins that give him goosebumps. Truth be told, any one of them was appealing to him.
  
  She continued walking him down the hallway.
  
  “None of them interest you? Chaanaa has many human clients, they seem to love her...” She said, stopping at the end of the long hallway.
  
  “Yes. No. I mean... I want to see all of the girls before I... make a decision.”
  
  “You are a wise man.” She said with a thoughtful nod.
  
  She smiled, gently guiding him to hall after hall, of seductive dancing women. Many of the rooms were empty- those girls being taken to spend time with their clients. When she got to the end of the hallways, Dave's mind was spinning.
  
  “I-I don't think I can do this. Mary, she...”
  
  “Mary is your mate? We do not judge, here.”
  
  “She's... She died in my arms...” Dave said, wiping the tears from his face.
  
  C'hallie pulled him down to her level, when she wrapped her arms around him.
  
  “I, too, know the pain of losing one you love. I will show you the... lesser trained girls, the damaged slaves, and then we can go get a drink at the bar. If you wish, I will be your date for the night. I will not ask any money of you.” She leaned back, and looked into his eyes. Se smiled, submissively, the pain in her heart evident in her eyes.
  
  “Thank you.” Dave said as she rested her small hand on his chest.
  
  “Come.” She said, pulling him down another hallway.
  
  The scent of this place was not as pleasant as before. Instead of dancing, some of the girls looked at him, some almost bored. Others snarled at him, some hissing.
  
  It was also a much larger than the area where the trusted slaves were kept.
  
  Dave squeezed C'hallie's hand as she guided him through, telling him about any girl he showed interest in.
  
  Dave no longer looked up any more. The pain, the look in Mary's eyes just before she died, it consumed him, even deeper now that he was on Furcadia. He thought going to a different world would ease his pain. He was wrong dead wrong. It only made it worse. And now there was no going back to his world. Not now, not ever.
  
  “Wait here.” C'hallie said, when she sprinted with inhuman speed, grabbing a wooden chair, and running back to Dave. She touched his arm as she guided him down onto it.
  
  “Sit. You are obviously in great pain. Just relax.” She spoke softly, touching him gently.
  
  The hall was dark. Girls sighed as their arms hung out from between the bars of their cages, just like a human prison. Dave looked at them, his heart broken over what they have to do for anyone with money enough to rent them.
  
  C'hallie handed him a small glass of mead as she sat down, crossing her legs and wagging a long toed foot in the air.
  
  She lit a cigarette.
  
  “Chaska.” She said, when the word cut through Dave. C'hallie had noticed Dave staring into a cage...
  
  “Chaska!” C'hallie said, throwing a rock at her cage. It dinged against the steel bars.
  
  Dave was staring at the single most stunning creature had ever laid eyes on. How she hurt... In her eyes bore the sorrow of an entire world. Dave clenched his teeth, trying not to weep over her sorrow.
  
  Dave stood up, walking over to her cage.
