A conundrum of masks wearing masks, Bruce Wayne is a cleverly disguised billionaire playboy and philanthropist, Gotham's darling. Beneath this winsome façade of an enigmatic socialite, conjuring the shadows as his rancorous cowl, is a perusing nightmare cleansing his purgatory of a cowardly disease as the unerring vigilante and Dark Knight Detective: The Batman, Gotham's protector.
|ORIGINS|
As a young child, Bruce Wayne watched his parents murdered right before his eyes. Thomas and Martha Wayne were walking home from the Monarch Theater one night with their son, when they were held at gunpoint by a mugger who demanded the pearl necklace that Martha was wearing. When Dr. Wayne refused to surrender it, both he and Martha were shot dead in the streets. The killer was a criminal known as Joe Chill. Fortunately, both physician and social worker Leslie Thompkins, who was making a house call that night, and police captain James Gordon arrived to comfort the traumatized Bruce.
He was then raised on the Wayne Manor estate, with help from the wise and loyal butler, Alfred Pennyworth. Over time, Bruce became restless, wrathful, and swore revenge on criminals, an oath tempered by a sense of justice. He then embarked on a long journey that would last well in to his adult life.
He engages in intense intellectual and physical training; however, he realizes that these skills alone would not be enough. Criminals are superstitious and cowardly lot, Wayne surmised, and as such, his disguise must be able to strike terror into their hearts. He must become a creature of the night, black, terrible, daunting -- as if responding to his desires, a bat suddenly flies through a nearby opened window trapping itself within his study, and thus inspiring Bruce to take on the persona of Batman.
However, to the world at large, Bruce Wayne is often seen as an irresponsible, superficial playboy who lives off his family's personal fortune (amassed when Bruce's family invested in Gotham real estate before the city was a bustling metropolis) and the profits of Wayne Enterprises, a major private technological firm that he inherits. However, Wayne is also known for his contributions to charity, notably through his Wayne Foundation. Bruce creates the playboy public persona to aid in throwing off suspicion of his secret identity, often acting dim-witted and self-absorbed to further the act.

Based in Gotham City, WayneCorp was founded in the 17th century but officially became a company in the 19th century under Alan Wayne. The company is one of the largest international conglomerates in the world, and today, WayneCorp continues to achieve excellence across a wide range of industry sectors and markets, employing some people in 170 countries.
The current Chairman, Bruce Wayne, is a keen modernizer and continues to grow the business in the financial sector and in high-end technologies. Bruce Wayne maintains a 51% majority ownership/control of the common stock, as the controlling stockholder of Wayne Enterprises. This allows for the prevention of any hostile takeover attempts of the company by a corporate raider or nefarious individual attempting to seek control of the vast Wayne empire. Another 30% of the common stock is in friendly hands of allies of Wayne. Therefore, any hostile takeover attempts of Wayne Enterprises would be unlikely. Lucius Fox is the acting CEO and the Senior Vice President of Finance, Miss Wells works closely with Mr. Wayne to inform and ensure major shareholders vote their proxies in favor of the board of directors, assuring Bruce Wayne and his executives control and influence of company decisions, policies, and operational procedures.

The Wayne Foundation is the holding company for the Thomas Wayne Foundation and the Martha Wayne Foundation. The Wayne Foundation funds scientific research and helps people by providing facilities and training.
The Thomas Wayne Foundation is a foundation for medicine and medical help. This foundation gives annual awards for medical breakthroughs and lifelong commitment, similar to the Nobel Foundation. The Thomas Wayne Foundation is also responsible for funding the Thomas Wayne Memorial Clinic in Park Row, Gotham's infamous Crime Alley. The foundation funds and runs dozens of clinics in Gotham. Bruce Wayne's surrogate mother, Dr. Leslie Thompkins, runs the Memorial Clinic and governed the other clinics.
The Martha Wayne Foundation is a patron and supporter of arts, families, education, and tolerance. The foundation supports and helps to run a number of orphanages and free schools, and provides teachers for those who have learning difficulties. Artists can apply for grants from the foundation to help support them in furthering the arts. The foundation sponsors companies like Family Finders. Family Finders is an organization directed at finding lost people and uniting families. The Martha Wayne Foundation also sponsors and runs dozens of soup kitchens within the city.
The foundation has its own building, called the Wayne Foundation Building, which includes a penthouse where Bruce Wayne stays from time to time. It also has a secret elevator that leads to a matching Batcave in a secret sub-basement under the building.
Through the Wayne Foundation and the organizations underneath, Wayne not only addresses social problems encouraging crime and assists victims in a way that his Batman persona cannot, but the arrangement also provides a large network of connections in the world of charities. Bruce finds out about the newest trends and arts, while maintaining connections to the streets through the soup kitchens and social services groups, augmenting his crime fighting efforts.

Dark Knight. Caped Crusader. World’s Greatest Detective. Batman, in most of his incarnations, is a dark and brooding vigilante with a personal vendetta against crime and injustice. Psychologically traumatized by the death of his parents, Batman has sworn to rid Gotham from the criminal elements that took his parents away from him. He is extremely pessimistic and suspicious, which often makes it difficult for him to trust people other than Alfred, Commissioner Gordon, the Robins or the Batgirls.
Despite this, the Dark Knight has proved to have a great love for humanity, which was instilled by his parents. His father was a doctor, while his mother was a crusader against child abuse. Indeed, Batman's oath of vengeance is tempered with the greater ideal of justice. He refrains from killing, as he feels this would not make him any better than the criminals he fights.
Batman's career as a vigilante initially earns him the ire of the police, but due to his relationship with police commissioner James Gordon, Batman's relationship with the law thaws quickly, and he is made an honorary member of Gotham City's police department.
To protect his secret identity, the Batman has constructed a fake persona he can use in his civilian identity. To the world at large, Bruce Wayne is a self-absorbed, irresponsible playboy and philanthropist. Only his closest allies know the truths that lie within the masks.
Batman represents the pinnacle of human performance in all aspects, pushing himself beyond his limits, absorbing new knowledge, and training to peak perfection. While he stands as a mere mortal among his peers, Batman goes above and beyond the call of duty, willing to stand up for his beliefs and fight for his beliefs in an unending crusade for justice.
|POWERS AND ABILITIES|
- Indomitable Will: He has no known superhuman/metahuman powers, but he does have an extreme, almost superhuman force of will.
- Intimidation: It is widely known that Batman has the ability to instill fear in others, even the people that know him best are intimidated by him.
- Expert Inquisitor: Batman is adept in the use of interrogation techniques, employing anything from law enforcement methods to outright torture.
- Peak Human Conditioning: Through intense training, specialized diet, and biofeedback treatments, The Batman represented the pinnacle of human physical prowess. His physical attributes exceeded that of any Olympic level athlete. His strength, speed, stamina, agility, reflexes, and coordination are at the peak of human potential. Batman began his physical and mental conditioning when he was 11 years of age and then intense physical training and weight lifting at age 12. He had mastered full body control by the time he was 18. Wayne abstains entirely from drinking alcohol, though he presented Bruce Wayne, his alter ego, as a borderline alcoholic (he created this illusion by drinking ginger ale and pretending it was champagne). Batman’s refusal to drink was directly linked to keeping his body in its absolute best. Bruce Wayne, since the age of 15, has created a strict diet to enable his body to develop and operate at its most proficient, along with biofeedback treatments (using portable/non portable machines to stimulate muscles to contraction). Batman being able to perform amazing physical feats is due to his superior physique. He engaged in an intensive regular regimen of rigorous exercise (including aerobics, weight lifting, gymnastics, and simulated combat) to keep himself in peak condition, and has often defeated opponents whose size, strength, or other powers greatly exceeded his own. He has spent his entire life in pursuit of physical perfection and has attained it through constant intensive training and determination.
- Expert Acrobat: Proficient in gymnastics and acrobatics to the peak of human ability.
- Master Martial Artist: Batman is one of the finest human combatants the Earth has ever known. He trained in the US as well as internationally for various martial arts for 10 years. He has mastered 127 styles of martial arts including Muay Thai, Escrima, Krav Maga, Capoeira, Savate, Yawyan, Taekwondo, Judo, Jujitsu, Ninjitsu, Kendo, Fencing, Kenjutsu, Kali, Bojutsu, Francombat, Boxing, Kickboxing, Hapkido, Wing Chun, Parkour, Shorin Ryu, Silat, Chin Na, Kyudo, Aikido, Varma Ati, Jeet Kune Do, Shaolin, Ba Gua, Hung Gar, Tai Chi, Kung Fu, Kenpo, and Karate. His primary form of combat is an idiosyncratic admixture of Tae Kwon Do, Judo, Muay Thai, Kickboxing, Karate, Boxing, Jujitsu, and Ninjitsu.

He is an exceptional swordsman, his proficiency in Jui Jitsu can proclaim his swordsmanship skill. Proficient with most melee weapons because of his mastery of Okinawan Kobudo. He was trained and became proficient in all arms. He soon learned expanded melee weapon techniques and he has learned expanded weapon/device sciences. He still practices during his combat sessions to keep his skills intact, though he prefers unarmed combat. Refrains from using firearms.

- Genius-Level Intellect: Batman is a brilliant, virtually peerless, detective, strategist, scientist, tactician, and commander; he is widely regarded as one of the keenest analytical minds. Given his lack of superpowers, he often uses cunning and planning to outwit his foes, rather than simply “out-fighting” them.
- Polymath: He has studied Biology, Technology, Mathematics, Physics, Mythology, Geography, and History. Batman is proficient in Criminal Science, Forensics, Computer Science, Chemistry and Engineering and has mastered Diverse Environmental Training, Security Systems, and illusion/sleight of hand. He then focused his intensive training on Biology, Physics, Advanced Chemistry, and Technology. He has also learned Forensic, Medical Sciences, Expanded Computer and Engineering Sciences, and Expanded Device Pool use of personal powered armor and system, database creation on underworld crime bosses, rogue’s gallery foes and other supers; improved material sciences for body armor and micro-machinery. Batman is also primed in Advanced New Development in Forensic and Medical Sciences.
- Master Detective: Occasionally referred to as the World’s Greatest Detective, capable of observation, forensic investigation, and inductive and deductive reasoning of the highest caliber. Human intuition is an unlearnable trait and one of Batman’s most effective tools.
- Multi-Lingual: Batman as well as Bruce Wayne is able to speak Spanish, French, Latin, German, Japanese, English, Russian, Cantonese, Mandarin and is always eager to learn more.
- Master Strategist: He commonly utilizes cunning tactics to outwit his foes. He is an excellent leader and at times commands the Justice League as well as the Outsiders.
- Escapologist: Comparable and second only to Mister Miracle, Batman is a clever and outwitting escape artist utilizing masterful methods to evade the law as well as his foes.
- Crack Pilot: Both Bruce Wayne and Batman are flyers – both helicopters and planes. He’s willing to try and figure out anything else if he can get his hands on it.

|EQUIPMENT|
- Batsuit: Batman’s bodysuit is not constructed from simple fabric, but from Kevlar thread and carbon nanotube fibers. This imparts it with a unique sheen and makes it heavily resistant to tearing. In addition, the suit also is constructed with a full body electric shock delivery system, which is also layered into the suit’s fabric. The basic version of the Batsuit, as many versions do exist for varying circumstances and is constantly undergoing updates and revamps, is insulated against electricity and is mostly fire resistant. The suit is bulletproof around the upper torso and back and can withstand a point blank range blast from a 12-gauge shotgun. Other versions are entirely bullet proof to small arms fire, and have advanced flexible armor plating made from carbon composites and lightweight metal polymers.
- Cape: The cape varies as well, but most are incorporated with Nomex fire-resistant/retardant material, and a Kevlar weave to slow the impact of bullets. It is utilized to distract and deter attention from the main focus of Batman himself, and is used to conceal both himself and weapons likely hidden among the apparatus itself. The cape can also expand, depending on which variation, with rods or a shape-memory polymer to permit the ability to glide.
- Cowl: The cowl’s original purpose was to conceal the identity of Batman and create an imposing imagery for his opponents, but has taken on many more functions since. Modifications have been made such as lining the cowl with lead to prevent x-rays to penetrate and thus reveal the Batman’s identity, as well as security measures to keep from having the mask removed. The cowl also contains shifting lenses to identify suspect’s identities, weak points (through medical records), and basic background information. Special visions, like infrared vision, night vision, and ultraviolet vision are also equipped within the cowl and seen through it’s typically white-out gaze to conceal eye identification. The cowl’s visor is also a digital camera for obtaining evidences, sonar concepts utilizing echolocation to triangulate objects via cell phones, and other such technologies that require digital handshakes. Batman extensively uses a sophisticated “detective mode” vision enhancement built in to the cowl that allows him to see enemies in darkness, through walls, their condition and state of alertness and detect and identify hidden objects as well as analyze evidence. It also contains a comm-link system that allows him to stay in contact with allies, scan police radios, and other communication frequencies.
- Gloves: Enforced with an arsenal of their own, the gloves bear scalloped, bat-like fins capable of acting as weapons and are strong enough to pose as a shield for Batman to defend himself against blows from swords or other cutting objects. Hidden within the gloves are tools of his trade, a lock-pick being one such item among many others. The knuckles of the glove contain a small amount of lead shot to increase his blows and is reinforced to handle and dish out damaging blows.
- Boots: The basic design of the boots are modeled on tactical boots, but are made from lightweight rubbers and are much more flexible to allow for full extension when kicking. The bottom is a flexible split sole design and is textured for a variety of surfaces and also have steel, reinforced toes, making them much more effective when on the offensive. Many designs and modifications are done to the boots like with the rest of the suit itself to better accommodate the varying circumstances of his crusade.
- Armor: The Batsuit is repeatedly updated in order to reflect advances in technology. Protective materials like Kevlar is equipped with the suit’s chest symbol being the strongest point as it stands as a sort of bull’s-eye to lure shots away from other areas. Batman reinforced the armor with material to dampen shocks and impact, along with preventative bracing, to protect him from the abuse of his cause.
- Utility Belt: The exact contents of the belt are not fully known as Batman usually changes them to suit his needs. His uncanny ability to carry unusually appropriate tools is legendary and the compartments are locked with only Batman having the knowledge on how to open them. The utility belt has defensive mechanisms such as electric shock, locks, marker paint, or stun gas in order to prevent tampering. The belt is usually depicted as having either capsule-like cylinders or military style pouches to store it’s equipment which can be an array of devices that become more and more complex over time. Key components of it’s contents that remain indefinitely on his person include, but are not limited to; Kryptonite.
