• Description

  Queen Charlotte Rosenhart is a brilliant symbol of hope for her kingdom of Oriel. Despite her tender youth by the time she was crowned, she managed to create a functioning bureaucratic system underneath her and make her kingdom flourish through trade and innovation.
  
  Her mother died while giving birth to her second child, Charlotte. Being the princess she was educated in the fine arts and sciences while her older brother was taught how to rule the country. Her natural curiosity caused her to run in all sorts of trouble as she would often ditch the boring stitching lessons and wander around the kingdom in secrecy, talk to all kinds of townspeople and getting a better understanding of their life. The mix of compassion, interest and curiosity made her a well-known figure throughout the kingdom even though she never revealed herself.
  
  However at the hunting party to celebrate her brother's nineteenth birthday, a group of boars ran over, and thus fatally wounded, both the king and his son, making Charlotte an orphan from one day to the next. She was quickly crowned at the age of seventeen, making her the youngest monarch in the country's history, mostly thanks to a few advisors adamant on attempting to create a puppet on the throne for their own benefit. It took a few good months of internal conflict and the nation was brought to the brink of outright civil war more than once but in the end, this did not set the former princess back as she had not sat idly while her brother had been taught but often eavesdropped or even openly participated - and even though she mourned over the loss of her family - in her eyes her people always came first. With the help of a few retainers loyal to the crown, she gradually managed to reclaim what was hers, though then coming face to face with the grim reality of the price she had paid as she stood amongst her blood-hungry army in a failing state despite only wanting to govern in peace. She saw no use in an army - there was no conceivable way to take over any of the larger nations around her - not to mention that it was against her interests as well.
  
  The same night she had been finally reclaimed her power, she had already announced her first big reforms. The kingdom's money became state-controlled, cutting down the power of the various guilds, churches had limited funds, the rest she had confiscated to renew the streets and city as well as pay for the pensions of most of her now retired ex-soldiers. Those all had been touchy subjects before and her predecessors had been too wary of their own safety to attempt it but the new queen could not help but act. Maybe all the kingdom had needed was a queen, slightly ignorant of the potential consequences or simply daring enough to do the ludicrous.
  Charity became institutionalized and public schools were introduced. The number of advisors on each subject were doubled and new subjects were created. Since she had fought bitterly to receive her own education on all the 'wrong' subjects, Charlotte was very adamant about overhauling and creating a system that actively looked for talented individuals no matter their standing.
  Maybe around five years later the printing press was invented and it only worked in her favour. Though her people did not invent said technology, the schools and other institutions were quick to adapt and teach it's use.
  
  Up to now she never had the chance to properly mourn over her family's death, keeping herself busy with work. She is often sleep deprived and does not sleep for over a day if necessary. Whenever possible, Charlotte visits her people, wanting to see what problems are the most relevant, which reforms worked and which not and also replenishing her energy by seeing how much she has managed to achieve.
  
  However her lifestyle has already put a toll on her body, and she is sickly from time to time, her appearance is not of a young woman, but a few years older than she actually is.
  Her advisors urged her to marry for years, in fear one of her sick periods would bring an end to the monarchy. She has managed to console them until now, but it is probably only a matter of time until she gives in.
