Formless silence, and yet in form does naught come.



The Void. Being the very archetype of primordial chaos, Vadraaghain is the unbegotten and eternal counterpart to creation and existence itself, having answered Melemmohr’s call at the beginning of time to open the conceptually egg-like ‘shell’ that encased the awakening aspects of the Ten Arches, being himself an indirect contributor to Creation. Though not formally considered an Arche himself due to his reality-defying nature, he nonetheless rules over the spheres of Nonexistence, Darkness, Destruction and Negative Energy. He bears the distinct dishonor of being the Luciferian figure among the First Ones, as well as being the primary direct instigator of the apocalyptic War Beyond the Stars, the cataclysmic conflict that ended the Fallen Cycle and killed all but one of the Ten.

At first, he was even more curious than Melemmohr, his perception of 'existence' being unable to behold anything other than the massive shifting infinity-within-infinity as a whole without directly manifesting within a world to observe, but he could hardly even hold himself within the bounds of being for more than a minute or so at a time. When he did cobble together a body to inhabit, not only did it not last beyond a day but his leaking null-essence reacted with the aspects of the Ten to quicken the formation of inverse variants of their concepts, making him more or less the unintentional root of all evil as it were.

Seeing his mistake, the Ten took pity and created a neutral space 'behind' Melemmohr's plane at the 'peak' of the cosmos. They reprimanded the Void for its recklessness, but showed him (at the time referred to by 'it' in the same way as the Wellspring) compassion nonetheless, understanding that he was simply curious and had no intent to do harm.

The Ten expected this eventuality, as Vadraaghain's aspect of unbeing was needed to balance being itself and allow for distinction, variety, beauty, free will and -life itself- to exist. Without him, creation itself as we know it would not be. Absolute unopposed Existence would be no different to life and sentience than unopposed Nonexistence, as everything would be 'filled in' with static, suffocating Light that would crush anything that managed to spring out back into itself.

Though this allowed activity and life, it also meant negative forces would be at work, and the Void's influence would unfortunately cause opposites to their concepts to arise. Furthermore, shards of his un-divine Darkness would become inverse-foci that would gather disparate creation energies, forming semi-sapient beings known as Makersbanes, perversion of the Ten's powers arisen from the overabundance of their unregulated energies.

To combat this, they worked to create a stable avatar of their own energies and aspects, that the Void might not only be able to more safely walk among Creation, but have an easily accessible reference on the very ideas at the basis of creation, that he may learn and understand the things that give life its meaning, and the appreciations of the splendor of infinity. It was a multilayered, demiphysical, multidimensional 'shell' formed of even amounts of the Ten's essences, over a layer of the same etherspace/dimensional connective tissue that already served as the demarcation of the border between being and nonbeing.

All was designed to be movable by the Void from within like its very own brand new body and easily perceived through, and to be able to - as safely and stably as possible - channel his dark powers, so that he could aid in the battles against the Makersbanes and other threats. Ironic and fitting that, in key ways, this new body of his was none too dissimilar to a further darkened Makersbane itself.

Soon following this development, in the era directly following the Formant Age, the Arches would gather in concern over the failure of the Tenth to self-actualize, a complication that left the aspect of Death and Revolution stymied throughout the cosmos. At risk of a cataclysm from the overabundance of life, ever burgeoning, and the Makersbanes that tirelessly prowled on life, the waking Nine would unanimously agree on a plan to have Melemmohr and Vadraaghain impart emanations of their essences into the slumbering Tenth’s concept, an act that resulted in the awakening of Rursum, the Revolution of Journeys, something of a son and brother to Vadraaghain at once.

Their projects were a rousing success...and would prove their downfall when the largest empire of Man in the entire cosmos made its move to depose the Makers.

In the wake of the Imperium’s downfall and Rursum’s ‘death’, Vadraaghain was directly chosen to take the Tenth’s place as Death, in addition to his original roles. As a consequence of being bound helplessly by the Imperium’s mad machine of domination, and his hand in Rursum’s destruction, Vadraaghain’s faith in mortals began to spiral down. As the eons passed, he would grow hateful and bitter, denouncing them all as incapable of growing past their greedy, warlike natures. His goal became to cleanse the cosmos of this taint, seeking to wipe the slate clean to allow the Gods to forge Existence anew, with life that wouldn’t give so easily to its darker impulses.

The other Nine were highly displeased with Vadraaghain’s shocking aims, moving to mete out punishment for his willingness to destroy everything, further widening the rift between them and the Void. He would begin creating gregarious Riāqu against his own disgust, and in time his motives decayed as his hatred smouldered coldly, leaving only a great devourer whose only design was ultimate mercy through limitless annihilation. It was the beginning of the War Beyond the Stars, and the near end of all things.

Yet, at war’s end, the cosmos was born anew. In a way, his original goal had been achieved, though his Riāqu legacy would survive his defeat, carrying on the dark deeds that became his will before his degeneration. Even now, the Origin wonders if the Unbegotten Nihility could still act through their hands...
