• Becoming The Golden Dragon

  What Lies below is one of Pernissa's great tales, taken from her own Adventures, and told in her words.
  
  How was the Talented Elven Bard to know that the free meal and a drink vouchers on the table were for everyone, when they were just sitting out unattended where she could easily pick them up? Surely they must have been left there for someone such as herself to enjoy. If she wasn't supposed to take them all, they really should have left a sign or something on them. The fact that these vouchers, written in fine sloping cursive with a quill of magnificent crafting, clearly stated 1 voucher per use, was an inconsequential detail. Not everyone can read Cursive after all, and though the beautiful, talented Bard was among those who could, she really ought not to have been expected to.
  
  Whether she was to be blamed or not (Though it was hardly her fault) the Tremendous, Beautiful, Talented Bard, filled her pocket with these vouchers, and merrily set off to the local pub with a bounce in her step and a smile on her lips, fortune had reigned down upon her, the fates were so kind. The Tavern was warm and welcoming, the people inside friendly and jovial as was usually the case when everyone was three sheets to the wind, and had a full belly. The Exotic, Tremendous, Beautiful, Talented Bard settled herself amongst the crowd, and ate her fill, drank heavily and danced and sang the night away, and at the end of the night, when the Tavern was closing and the people were filtering out into the cool night air, and it came time to settle her dues with the Tired Tavern wench, she handed her a stack of vouchers instead of gold, and was truly caught by surprise to find that she could only use one.
  
  This put her at odds with the frankly unreasonable Tavern Owner who told her she'd racked up a bill of nearly six gold! How was she going to pay? The woman asked as the Brilliant, Exotic, Tremendous, Beautiful, Talented Bard dumped the useless vouchers with dismay on the ground at her feet.
  
  "Well, I don't have six gold that's for sure." The Amazing, Brilliant, Exotic, Tremendous, Beautiful, Talented Bard responded with mirth. "Tell you what, Why don't I give to the One gold, and four copper coins I have, and we'll call it even, considering how wonderful and entertaining my presence has been here tonight.: For good measure, she flashed the tavern wench her brightest, flashiest smile.
  
  "Tell you what" The Barkeep responded with much snark. "How about I take your money, and those vouchers, and I send for the town guard to come and lock your arse up until such a time as you can pay your damned bill."
  
  If there ever was a sign that it was time for The Lovable, Amazing, Brilliant, Exotic, Tremendous, Beautiful, Talented Bard to conveniently skip town to avoid an encounter with law enforcement, this must have been it, she mused to herself. And with a tip of her hat and a wink of her eye, she left what few coins she had, and fled out into the night, the Barkeep howling after her. The night air was cool around her as she ran drunkenly down the cobbled streets her bag on her shoulder, and a wide grin on her lips. This was living the Mischievous, Lovable, Amazing, Brilliant, Exotic, Tremendous, Beautiful, Talented Bard mused to herself. Live Large, Leave an Impact, make people remember you, and the World would be your oyster.
  
  Getting out of town was Easy. A back route over a dangerous mountain path certainly wasn't the recommended route, but it seemed prudent to the Adorable, Mischievous, Lovable, Amazing, Brilliant, Exotic, Tremendous, Beautiful, Talented Bard to lay low until she'd put a few miles between her and the town, just in case the town security was of the persistent sort. Up into the winding steep, snow capped mountains she traveled until she'd put hours between her and the town, and she was beginning to wonder if she would ever find the main road again, or if she'd strayed off the proper route in some way and would be lost to the wilds for the rest of her glorious life, or until she froze to death, whichever came first...
  
  But Wait, just as the cold was closing in on her and she felt certain her fate was to meet her doom due to frostbite, the Magnificent, Adorable, Mischievous, Lovable, Amazing, Brilliant, Exotic, Tremendous, Beautiful, Talented Bard's sharp (and stunning) Ocean blue eyes caught sight of something in the far off distance, sitting on the edge of a cliff. Was it a home? Was it salvation? She could only hope so as she carried on towards it, her leather shoes starting to let the cold and wet soak if, her flashy bardic outfit doing little to stave off the frigid air.
  
  When the Goodly, Magnificent, Adorable, Mischievous, Lovable, Amazing, Brilliant, Exotic, Tremendous, Beautiful, Talented Bard finally drew near, her eyes widened with wonder and disbelief. It was not a House, or a cave, or anything that would save her the fate of freezing, and yet it took her breath away with it's splendor. There before her wide eyes was a Giant Elder Golden Dragon, it's body encased completely in ice. There was a moment of fear, even from this Unshakably brave, Goodly, Magnificent, Adorable, Mischievous, Lovable, Amazing, Brilliant, Exotic, Tremendous, Beautiful, Talented Bard. Would it come to life? It would certainly have been a more fitting death then hypothermia for someone such as herself, but undesirable none the less.
  
  It became clear though as she gazed upon it, that it was in no state to notice her or be aware of her presence, and with that the fear faded, and she was left with only wonder. She stared at it for what felt like hours, marveled by it's enormity and grandeur, not everyone after all, got a glimpse of an elder dragon from such a close vantage point. It was only when she heard the sound of voices and marching feet in the distance that she snapped out her wonder.
  
  Who approached? The Stunning, Unshakably brave, Goodly, Magnificent, Adorable, Mischievous, Lovable, Amazing, Brilliant, Exotic, Tremendous, Beautiful, Talented Bard's eyes scanned the horizon. Was it the law enforcement of the town she'd left? It seemed unlikely that they would come all this way after her... but even if it wasn't, did she really want them to catch her here in the presence of the very creature they sought? A secret like this surely was meant to be kept secret, and she was only one person far away from anyone who would know or care if she went missing.
  
  Thinking Quickly the Miraculous, Stunning, Unshakably brave, Goodly, Magnificent, Adorable, Mischievous, Lovable, Amazing, Brilliant, Exotic, Tremendous, Beautiful, Talented Bard ducked for cover behind the giant frozen beast, it's monstrous form hiding her from the eyes of the men who'd either come in search of her or the glorious frozen dragon. From here she was able to hear them devise a plan.
  
  It would seem these scheming mages planned to destroy the frozen beast, for fear that it may one day break free of it's ice encasement and lay waste to them that had put it in this state in efforts to steal from his treasure unnoticed. Such a plan seemed gravely unfair to the Just, Miraculous, Stunning, Unshakably brave, Goodly, Magnificent, Adorable, Mischievous, Lovable, Amazing, Brilliant, Exotic, Tremendous, Beautiful, Talented Bard What a waste of such a beautiful and exotic creature as this to destroy it! What greed these men must have possessed to do all of this to a lawful and fair creature like this, simply for fortune and fame!
  
  This simply would not do, The Willful, Just, Miraculous, Stunning, Unshakably brave, Goodly, Magnificent, Adorable, Mischievous, Lovable, Amazing, Brilliant, Exotic, Tremendous, Beautiful, Talented Bard could not stand for such an injustice, and so in all her brilliance, she devised a plan. The performance of a lifetime.
  
  Roaring at the top of her lungs like an animal possessed, using the magics she possessed to make her voice booming and audible to all those around, she issued a decry.
  
  "WHO DARES APPROACH MY MIGHTY VISAGE?! SURELY NOT THOSE WHO HAVE TRAPPED ME HERE!"
  
  The mages shuffled in fear and confusion. Could it really be the mighty golden dragon that addressed them? It still appeared frozen after all.... One took a step towards it, proclaiming it impossible the dragon could be addressing them, surely there was trickery afoot. The Scheming, Willful, Just, Miraculous, Stunning, Unshakably brave, Goodly, Magnificent, Adorable, Mischievous, Lovable, Amazing, Brilliant, Exotic, Tremendous, Beautiful, Talented Bard roared in response.
  
  "I AM FREEING MYSELF OF MY ICE PRISON EVEN AS WE SPEAK. IN MOMENTS I WILL BE FREE AND ALL THOSE WHO WRONGED ME WILL LAY DEAD AT MY FEET!" Her bluff was strong enough to spook the others, who turned and ran to put space between them and the frozen beast. Only one remained, yelling at the others for their foolish naivety.
  
  Seeking to prove his point he fired magic at the beast in a rage. He would destroy it himself if the others were too stupid to see this was trickery and nothing more. His actions were ill advised though, more so then the Wise Scheming, Willful, Just, Miraculous, Stunning, Unshakably brave, Goodly, Magnificent, Adorable, Mischievous, Lovable, Amazing, Brilliant, Exotic, Tremendous, Beautiful, Talented Bard could have possibly imagined. As he attacked it again and again, the ice began to fall from it's magnificent body in large dangerous sheets. In attacking the creature he was freeing it, and as it roared to life, the noise was so strong the Courageous, Wise, Scheming, Willful, Just, Miraculous, Stunning, Unshakably brave, Goodly, Magnificent, Adorable, Mischievous, Lovable, Amazing, Brilliant, Exotic, Tremendous, Beautiful, Talented Bard fell to the ground, her consciousness fading as everything went black around her, and her ears rang so loudly it blocked out all else.
  
  When she awoke she was alone, laying in the snow, wet and cold. The dragon was gone, the armies were gone, only the mutilated body of the mage remained, his blood diluted to a rosy pink in the snow around him. Wasting no time the Cold, Courageous, Wise, Scheming, Willful, Just, Miraculous, Stunning, Unshakably brave, Goodly, Magnificent, Adorable, Mischievous, Lovable, Amazing, Brilliant, Exotic, Tremendous, Beautiful, Talented Bard would scramble to her feet and gather her belongings, hurrying towards the nearest town as quickly as her feet allowed, her intention to reach it before night fell around her.
  
  When she reached the town she was weary and hungry, she approached an inn and tavern with her satchel of money in hand prepared to pay for a bed and a warm meal to help her recover from a harrowing day. As she approached the bar, the tavern was packed around her.
  
  She placed her money on the counter and asked the wench at the counter. "Please ma'am may I have a room and a rabbit stew." The woman gladly toook her money, but much to the surprise of the Traveling, Cold, Courageous, Wise, Scheming, Willful, Just, Miraculous, Stunning, Unshakably brave, Goodly, Magnificent, Adorable, Mischievous, Lovable, Amazing, Brilliant, Exotic, Tremendous, Beautiful, Talented Bardthe tavern fell silent around her. She turned on spot to look around her at the shocked faces of the patrons. On closer inspection she recognized many of them as men from the raiding party she'd tricked earlier. They were looking at her with awe and cold fear. The realization dawned on her all at once. They thought her to be the dragon shape changed to human form, come to destroy them as she'd promised she would.
  
  One dropped to his knees before her, pleading for her to make her justice swift and painless, the others soon followed.
  
  Quite unexpectedly the Humble, Traveling, Cold, Courageous, Wise, Scheming, Willful, Just, Miraculous, Stunning, Unshakably brave, Goodly, Magnificent, Adorable, Mischievous, Lovable, Amazing, Brilliant, Exotic, Tremendous, Beautiful, Talented Bard had in the eyes of these people, become the Golden Dragon.
