  Growing up in the shadow of originals was seldom easy work, but the confidence and intelligence stirring beneath the surface of the boy's flesh would later provide him with all of the tools he would need to feel worthy- to be worthy- of his lineage...

  Mischievousness was an understatement. Ceyx's youth was filled with ill-managed spontaneity, publicized flings and the occasional bout of parental defiance. Hushed words encircled him and the reputation of his kinship; could even Airis and Æolus produce a bad egg? As with all children Ceyx began to grow, and as he grew so did his understanding. His appreciation for his breed- his rank- began to resound within his skull. Growing out of his past transgressions was no easy feat, but with the promise of a new opportunity the male began to turn his reputation around of his own accord. No doubt a welcomed relief to his parents.
  
  The role of a guardian was not one to be taken for granted nor dismissed. The boy had become a man, and though Amphrite harbored hesitance in accepting the eager Ceyx into her group his persistence and enthusiasm garnered him enough favor to enter their ranks. Almost immediately he proved to be a commendable asset, taking to his tasks with a gusto and fervor unlike any before. He worked hard, he fought long. And perhaps- had things gone differently- Ceyx would have been content to remain within their ranks for the remainder of his days.
  
  Aurelia was a goddess among Suesai... or so Ceyx might have claimed. A dark-skinned and silver-haired delight with the brightest blue marks it was difficult to not find himself drawn to her immediately. Ceyx's former whims with the fairer sex had been tucked away in the back of his mind in favor of maintaining good rapport within the guardians, but Aurelia threatened everything he'd worked for. Not only a cousin and close friend to Amphrite the woman boasted a spot on the Suesai council, ensuring that the silver-haired woman was a constant distraction; this began to anger Ceyx, but for what reason he struggled to understand. Whenever she came about he could feel his heart hammer within his chest and his blood begin to boil beneath the surface; he could do naught but glare in her direction and attempt to maintain his composure. Easier said than done.
  
  For some months Ceyx watched Aurelia from afar while she would laugh with other females and- at times- entertain flirty males that might approach her. In the weeks- the months- following Ceyx's initial fascination with her he had grown jealous. Angrier. But like all tensions either the pressure is alleviated... or the tension ends up with a snap. Ceyx had never stepped out of line since joining the Guardians but it seemed that not even he, the son of an original, could be perfect. Not even now.
  
  His teeth bit into flesh and muscle before he'd even known what he'd done. In one moment Aurelia was happily chatting with another suitor... and in the next the strange male was pinned beneath a livid Ceyx, his shoulder latched onto by shark-like teeth and his face being held to the dirt with clawed fingertips. With each snarl and yell of the male beneath him the angered guardian bit deeper, his tail slapping the earth. It wasn't until the very female Ceyx had unknowingly claimed in his own mind should touch his shoulder that he should begin to back off the other male. Standing, Ceyx would spit blood upon the soil, his eyes narrowed and glancing over towards a rather... pleased looking Aurelia. She fancied this? With naught a word Ceyx glanced back to his maimed opponent with a growl before grappling Aurelia by the wrist and pulling her away. She was his.

  The announcement of her pregnancy thrilled Ceyx like nothing else ever had. Aurelia- his mate- was to bring forth the first of what he was positive would begin a long line of perfect Suesai.
  
  In her 8th month of pregnancy Aurelia began to show signs of sickness. With their babe growing within her belly her abilities had waned dramatically, leaving Ceyx to grow more and more concerned as her condition began to deteriorate rapidly. It took little time for the guardian to seek help, finding that Amphrite was more than willing to do what she could for Aurelia and their unborn. After some time it was decided that Aurelia, alongside Amphrite, would need to make a brief journey to another area to seek ingredients for what they hoped to be a cure. But a compromised guardian was a poor guardian indeed, and when Ceyx was denied travel with his mate the Suesai male grew angry and violent. Even as he watched his mate and Amphrite disappear it took several others to restrain him, his snarls and yells echoing behind the two women as they left.
  
  Weeks went by and Ceyx got back to work. It was the only thing he could do to keep his mind off of everything that had happened. No word had returned to him, leaving the male to contemplate the worst... only to convince himself he'd have heard had something happened.
  
  Returning from a task he approached the council chambers to report his findings. It was the same as any other day; get a task, do the task, report back. Get a task, do the task, report back. It was what was expected of the guardians as the council was to be told of any happenstance. Entering the chamber he took note of another guardian already on the floor, and opting to stand back and out of the way Ceyx simply listened, awaiting his turn. But it was the words of the other that gave the male pause.
  
  "Amphrite has returned. It has been reported that Aurelia and the unborn are deceased."

  By the end of that night nothing remained of Ceyx and Aurelia's dwelling. Mourning wasn't something the male had ever had the time to do, but Ceyx had permitted all composure to crumble away. For days he remained away, denying any and all guardian tasks that came his way. His thoughts captured him, pulling him from all sensibility. The normally rational male had reached the end of his rope. It wasn't until Amphrite should visit one day that the male would find light again. But it sure as hell wasn't from Amphrite herself.
  
  Killing the woman crossed his mind, using all of the willpower he could muster to keep himself from throwing himself at her. He wanted to know what happened. Wanted to know why she didn't save her and their unborn. As far as he was concerned it was her fault. She had promised to help her, yet his mate lay dead somewhere beyond his reach. Amphrite seemed at a loss in her demeanor, but her words pierced the male. His sense of duty... of ability was struck.
  
  "The council has extended you the offer of taking Aurelia's seat."
  
  Of course they did. A third majesty with the blood of an original whose rapport within the guardians was- relatively- flawless and whose pregnant mate had worn the title of council member. It was a perfect fit. Deciding that killing Amphrite might ruin this opportunity and, in some way, shame the memory of Aurelia he clenched his fists and spoke.
  
  "I accept."
