There was once a witch who fell in love with a man who was anything but human. She knew only happiness in his presence. He would do anything for her. Except one day, he left. The witch was heartbroken and died a lonely death many years later. No matter how hard she tried, she could not fill the void he left. That sadness left her body in a cold breath and swept over the forest around her home. Settling deep into the ground and cursing it. There the curse lay for many years, it did nothing for it had no purpose. It decided to give itself a purpose. So a town appeared, but it had no people. Strange creatures came and prowled through it's woods. They go close to the town, and the curse afraid they would chase off any people who came set up a fence to keep them out. Yet still no people came. So it learned how to change it's location so it could be anywhere and no where at the same time. Sometimes people would come, but they never stayed. The curse as lonely as the witch who birthed it decided to make it impossible to leave. So it would appear before people it liked. A long trail going deep into the woods. Calling to those who laid eyes upon it. If they could not resist and walk down it the forest would swallow them whole, slowly. If they turned around in time they might be able to leave, but most did not. They could follow the path safely to the fence, and pass through it. Where they would forever be locked inside. They could also choose to ignore the sign and leave the path, where the creatures would devour them. Those inside would find the little town, it was very empty but there was always life. It was named Haven, a safe place in the middle of the monster infested forest. In this town Death exists but is never permanent. The curses plays with it's citizens each day. Killing them in new and strange ways. Only for them to wake up the next morning with only hazy memories of the day before, as if nothing ever happened. Phillip came here of his own free will. A place where he was certain he'd never hurt anybody again, not in any way that really mattered here at least. He turned it into his own personal prison. |
