PERSONALITY. Many of Ryuo’s behavioural quirks, such as his muddled speech or social anxiety, exist because he has aspergers syndrome. He’ll get easily flustered when asked questions that aren’t straight forward, though this doesn’t appear to make him seem outwardly nervous. Any anxiety he may have is concealed by his joyful, thoughtless speech. Ryuo is generous, happily going out of his way to help others. That being said, he is a notorious show off and extremely precious about his work. He cannot bear to let others interfere with his workflow, very much a believer that the only good job is one he has done himself. His diligence does, however, speak for itself. Ryuo once taught himself to juggle bottles and even firesticks, extremely well, over the course of two weeks - just to impress his superiors. Ryuo needs things done a certain way, and Primes save anyone who interferes with his ‘flow’ whilst he’s working at the forge!
ADOLESCENCE. Ryuo’s reputation as the local ‘fixer’ grew. Not a week went by when Ryuo wasn’t at the house of his neighbours fixing a pipe or mending a door. He was well loved by his community, and his talent for smithing was starting to rival his mentors even at age twelve. Sensing this, his jealous mentor actually began to manipulate Ryuo and block his development. Ryuo, being too innocent and naive to sense this, grew steadily more depressed over the next six years as he encountered frequent failures, lacked any development and couldn’t see any sort of future for his profession. He was as much a victim of his poverty stricken upbringing as he was his mentor’s jealousy. Ryuo was considering leaving the trade entirely, when he became convinced by his mentor that his skills were inadequate. He became quite deeply depressed with his home life, particularly with the departure of his older brother Ed (who had become heavily affiliated with local gangs).
