Past

Long ago in ages since forgotten all of the ancient races lived in peace it was a better tine for the world. Everything in harmony and war all but forgotten for sentient creatures. This is the time Luna was born in, to a family already boasting a brother, and two wonderful parents. She grew quickly as elves do and before her 20th birthday she had another brother to share her life with. Her family was ecstatic as all of them grew up, their parents being merchants to the great elven king meant their childhood was anything less than boring. They traveled all across the worlds, meeting and seeing so many new people. The world in alignment was never meant to stay calm however, and as it does evil snuck back into the realm they all called home. A dragon king by the name of Alustrial wormed his way into the kingdom of his brethren, spreading lies and acclimation of the wealth and power the other races were hiding from them. Enraged the Dragon kingdom started waging war, their fires tore apart the cities unfortunate enough to be in their paths. The few kingdoms still unaffected held a high meeting. No one was prepared to meet such a fearsome race in war, or were not ready to make decisions on the matter. The shorter lived races grew impatient, not ready to wait on the aloof attitudes of the elves and fey creatures on the matter. So to war they went, but as most know humans are not made to fight such fearsome creatures, and only when there numbers were almost completely gone did the elves decide to join the wars.

Battle spread and ravaged the lands, people went away and never came back, and only when an attack hit the city the Icesong family had called home did their parents leave. Instructing the oldest brother Regahth to take Luna and the youngest Serlian to a battle camp. After a night of crying and begging, and a thousand empty promises to return did they part. Luna was outraged at hiding and waiting around like some sort of kicked dog. She fought against her brother and eventually parted ways from them before they reached the encampment. Seething and utterly agitated that no one was standing with her to help. Her brothers seemed contented to just run and hide, but not her so with just the small rations she had and a hunting dagger she was gifted years ago she set off.

Finding the battle front was not hard however bringing herself on shaky legs to approach the general and fall in rank was more than enough to practically kill her. The first battle was hell on earth, nothing in her life had prepared her for such bloodshed, the first charge and roar of burning fire was enough to bring the young woman to her knees. Her stomach retching up bile as the smell of charred metal and burning flesh filled her head and with that she passed out. Years and years passed carnage became more easy as people fell and came back from battle with less of what they went in with, death became easier for Luna to face and she became numb to it. She moved up in rank easily, her willingness to follow orders and her readiness with a mace was something the armies needed against such foes. She was growing more and more used to such activities when a wedge smashed into her death filled life. Her oldest brother had come to camp, she was still not sure who looked more surprised to see the other alive.

The meeting was not as planned and the now turned general was lost in the words her brother told her. Their brother was lost to them, spirited away by one of those damned dragons he was trying to help like a lost pet. How could he have been so stupid? She was wrapt in guilt and anger, and with that she left her brother right there in camp and set off with her battalion. It took months of fighting for her small army to reach the gates of the dragon capital, most of it was long since ruined with the main keep being the only real structure still standing. Despite the lack of cover the dragons had in no way abandoned their home, hundred of them circled the sky and plowed through the gates, the fighting was hard. She screamed orders over the raging fires and lead the charge hoping her armies could hold up one last all out attack, this was the tipping point. They would win! She smashed down enemies casting spells to shield her armies and strike the flying beasts from the sky, her aim was true and strong as it should be after years of training until a familiar visage breaks her vision. Serlian stood by the gates his body clad in bark black scaled armor, her breath caught and she rushed forward. Everything was falling into place she could save him and disperse the rest of her magic on the keep, at least damaging it. That is until an arrow pierced through her sides, finding the loose plates in her heavy plate armor. As she fell to the ground she saw her brother retreat back into the castle, crossbow slung over his shoulder.

Luna awoke what seemed like only seconds later, she was told it was weeks and the pain in her ribs did nothing more than remind her of the battle. She felt like retching as she unfolded the event again in her head. This is also when she got the devastating information that they were surrendering. The last thing she felt she could take was the guilt of all the lives lost in vain, but unfortunately the work she had done became torn like ropes binding her to this war. With the peace talked out she was dismissed, her and all of her kin fighting in the armies, the people she had learned to call her family were banished. Their homelands taken as they were forced away, up into the far north at the peak of the summit bordering great seas of ice. This is where their home began and the snow elf race emerged.

The ancient race of elf thrived in the cold barren wastelands. Their skin was fairer, their eyes double lidded and their bones hallow allowing them to walk over the snow like wild cats. It seems the plan to kill the old race by sending them to such inhospitable conditions backfired. Life was better and calm, food was easy enough to find and magics of old were plentiful enough to help them grow in the frigid snows. All was well for everyone, except Luna. Thoughts of war were never truly gone when you lived through as many years of it as she did, the scars fade after century on flesh but not in mind. She declined the position of power, too unstable to take such leverage again. She didn't trust herself and day by day she grew more feral, her brain racing to killing, getting revenge on those who wronged her, those who stole her childhood and family. Eventually she couldn't bring herself to live in civilization. She stole away in the dark setting out on her own for the second time in her life. She was not so lucky this time, anxiety mixed with wrong footing had her careening down from a steep slope, smashing her head and body along rocks as she fell to ledge and her death so she guessed as she lost consciousness.....
Rebirth

The world of the living passed by fervently, generations and generations passing, even for the long lived ancient races. Luna wasn't fond of being dead, watching the world pass without you is a sad and lonely thing, but that is the consequence you get for dying over the ruins of a gods shrine. Her afterlife was anything but peaceful her time constantly being plagued by voices ringing and apparitions from the goddess she at first resented. After hundreds of years of fighting she eventually came to agree top the strange beings terms. The goddess was primordial even by Luna's standards. She was a goddess of time, space, and all the dark encompasses. Twila'anea she was called or at least called herself. The being was not at all insufferable, but rather persistent, and terrifying. Luna had seen her rage as she first rejected the goddess. It was not a feeling she wished to elicit again. So much to her own disagreement she agreed to train. To learn from this ancient being in return for the chance to return to her realm and destroy all that had wronged her and her people. So train she did for what was an eternity in her world, but nothing more than a few hundred years in this strange plane. Goddess or not under the woman's instruction she became sharper, more precise, and more powerful than she had ever hoped. But as to all help there is a bigger price and hers was her own body. The goddess hated all things associated under her name she did not give permission to live in her domain, demons, and devils, minions of lesser gods allowed to roam her night because she was all but forgotten. She was given permission to inhabit Luna in her own mission to destroy these things, and anything in her way. The snow elf thought little of the trade as she saw no harm, but as usual those too selfish to see past there own goal usually don't see the truth.

That was all she remembered when she awoke with a start, her eyes were far to sensitive and her body ached in effort from only just sitting up, as if she had not used her own body in years. As she raised onto shaking legs she looked around, this place looked familiar, shear rock walls, boundless amounts of snow raining down, and a chasm slipping down to her left. Her mind snapped to attention, this was where she had died. She was alive again, and so was her heart. The soft thrumming in her chest elicited the first smile she had cracked in thousands of years. She had a new childlike enthusiasm about her. With a jump and mumbling of a small spell she levitated up to the ledge she had fallen from, completely amazed by how different the terrain had become, and how fresh everything looked. This was a whole new world to her. So with her mission in mind she set off her purpose redefined and her destiny set out by her new goddess. Traveling was much more exhausting than she remembered and by the end of her first day her body felt sore beyond belief. That didn't stop her however she pressed on until she came upon a small town, needless to say she was meet with a blade to the throat then clear surprise, snow elves in this age had become more reclusive and knew almost all of there other brethren so outsiders were unheard of. She was welcomed nevertheless though as she was indeed not some crafty sorceress taking an elven guise to trick them, a more urgent problem that she had realized from watching from whatever realm of death she was in. She passed off as a traveler for a fort night before leaving, most were surprised to hear her name as apparently her old civilization had painted her as some marvelous eloquent general that just dissipated, it made her uncomfortable to hear she was revered even if they did not know it was her.

So away she went striking out on her own for the third time in life, feeling this time was to be much better. Life went easily and she reached the surface world fairly easily, nothing more to fight off than some wargs, and a stray yeti. This was when her true elven nature came out, she was as fascinated and enthralled by the new civilization as there inhabitants were by her as snow elves were regarded as no more than myths. Her name spread easily, but she could barely care as she was having too much fun. All was not always amazing however, she would have terrible headaches and wake up miles away from her original location, with lost memories and fresh scars. It was all very odd but she didn't let it get in the way of her journey. She would carry out her mission to kill the demon dragon king and save her brother if he was still alive.

Along her way she meet her first love, their romance was a whirlwind, the woman she fell for was a sailor, she lived with her amongst the waves as the small pirate followed her own dreams. It was fulfilling to see her lover feel so free, but she was not jaded in thinking the young dark elf only cared for her, she could tell the other woman wasn't truly in love with her as she thought. So the thirst ended quickly in only a few decades, but she did retain a handful of friends from this relationship that she held dear to herself. This gave her new purpose to save those she cared for, she would never stop protecting them.....
Snow Elf Biology and Culture

Snow elves are an ancient race of elves exiled from the surface by dragons and those siding with them after a great war. They accepted their fates and retreated far atop the frigid mountains of their world. This particular race however was ore adept at surviving in high altitudes than their enemies anticipated. They have extremely delicate bones, hallowed out in the middle almost like birds as they are rumored to have had wings at one point. Their eyes have double eyelids much like a cat making seeing and surviving in dark and snow much easier, they are also fair in all means of the word so they can camouflage amongst their environment easily. Snow elves need little food to survive and can even go for days without eating so long as they do not use up too much energy. They are easily adaptable so the diet of tough mountain creatures and hardy crops was not hard to adjust too.

This race of elf has kept ancient sylvan writing and dialect as well as adopting their own form of sign language to make hunting easier. Another way this race differs from their surface cousins is they have no need or concept of gender as both sexes can be born with interchangeable organs. They will only refer to one another as 'he' or 'she' to make it easier on their surface cousins and other races they come in contact with. Though they are reclusive and do not usually leave their mountain home they well except guests and wanderers often going out of their way to save wounded or lost people. They will also be the most likely race of elves to interbreed with other races though their sexual organ uncertainty usually makes other less open races wary. They do not believe in class systems and instead all live in equal conditions. They often form very strong bonds with their 'mates' but are also just as likely to be polyamorous or in a open relationship with their mate and several others. The hold no emotional connection to sex and will often practice it freely at festivals and celebrations, something that is seen as taboo amongst other races. They can generally go years without a child being born in a village, but when it does happen most people in the community are more than happy to help the new parents.

Young snow elves will often leave their villages and follow a pilgrimage to visit way shrines of their ancestors, praying for success in hunting and life pursuits. After thriving on their own in the tundra they will find another village besides their home one to settle in to prevent the chances of inbreeding as the populations are still generally small and only in the thousands. If in the rare event a young elf finds a suitable mate on their pilgrimage it is tradition that they make their own civilization in the spot they meet and begin a family as other young elves from other settlements settle there. This practice has helped spread their towns and make ties stronger between areas, as all individual cultures mix and share with one another once a year on the peak of the ,mountain during the harvests.

Because of their build and innate magic abilities most snow elves make great mages, of rouges. Their light frames make sneaking and having light fingers an easy feat, though with proper training and vigorous training they can make amazing clerics as well. Any path they take will surely be mastered in their life, the do not live as long as they once did but the average snow elf will still live to the age of 1,200 years if they are healthy. With that being said like their elven cousins they do not age like humans, their skin looses its shimmer, and their hair and eyes dull, but they generally do not get wrinkled or shrink any.
