Mevolent

Mevolent is an Irish dictator and leader of the Faceless Church. He rose to power as the Lord Chancellor of Ireland in 1591, and as High King of Ireland in 1592. During his dictatorship from 1591 to 1930, he initiated the Greater War in Europe by invading Ethiopia on January 1, 1650. He was closely involved in military operations throughout the War and was central to the perpetration of the Great Purity. Mevolent's actions and ideology are almost universally regarded as evil.

Before his rise to power, Mevolent served under Arthur Dagan's grandfather as blacksmith apprentice in 1556. The following year, a creature known only as the Unnamed discoverd Mevolent's potential and took him in as its sole student, thus becoming Mevolent's mentor. Being the head of the Faceless Church at the time, the Unnamed chose Mevolent not only for his magical potential, but also for his devotion to the Dark Gods known as the Faceless Ones. It trained Mevolent to be its successor.

At the end of this newfound apprenticeship, the Unnamed and Mevolent left for 5 years to pilgrimage different locations important to their religion - such as the Faceless Tombs - to continue training Mevolent by those areas of power and potent magic. Mevolent returned from said pilgrimage without the Unnamed and declared himself the new leader of the Faceless Church.

Mevolent is now a dedicated follower of the Faceless Ones and worked on a plan to open a portal to allow their entry back to Earth. He forms an army. His army, the Verteidigenmacht, is led by the Three Generals: Nefarian Serpine, Baron Vengeous and Lord Vile. At some point during the Greater War, Mevolent engaged the Irish Sanctuary. Afterwards, Mevolent began a genocidal movement known as the Great Purity against Warlocks, Witches, Mortals, and even Sorcerers, either because he deemed them "inferior" or they simply refused to bow down to him.

Albeit equally matched at the beginning, Mevolent's side began to lose after the creation of the Dead Men. In a desperate "last resort" attempt, Mevolent ordered an attack against the leaders of the Sanctuaries. Nefarian Serpine succeeded in killing Skulduggery Pleasant - a prominent member at the time - and many other leaders. They paraded the bodies around on burning spikes, demoralizing the Sanctuaries. With their leaders dead, Mevolent's side acquired more followers and took the upper hand.

The Greater War ended in 1930, months after Mevolent's death. Nefarian Serpine signed the Truce and was granted amnesty, Baron Vengeous was put on trial and sentenced to life in a maximum security facility in Russia and Lord Vile simply disappeared from the whole scene, with his whereabouts currently unknown.

However, in the Leibniz Universe, Mevolent is very much alive and succeeded in not only taking over the entirety of the United Kingdom and Europe, but also the world itself.

Mevolent is an Elemental. He is one of the few that turned evil. His mastery over Earth's elements is unprecedented and absolutely incredible, and he has equal skill with all of them.

Due to the fact that his underlings include Nefarian Serpine, Baron Vengeous and the immensely powerful Lord Vile, Mevolent is assumed to be a Sorcerer of unimaginable strength. One opponent of his - Darquesse - claims that, apart from Argeddion and herself, Mevolent is most likely the most powerful Sorcerer in existence. It is likely that if Mevolent is to ever discover his True Name, he would surpass both Darquesse and Argeddion, likely being capable of taking multiple Faceless Ones head on.

Mevolent is a rather violent and cruel individual. Though his speech and demeanor may seem calm with no malicious intent, his actions and fighting skills, as well as his methods of torture, betray his almost normal appearance. He is extremely charismatic and a brilliant leader, being able to persuade so many Sorcerers to his cause, including the likes of Nefarian Serpine, Baron Vengeous and even Lord Vile.
