Oscillating the stale air around the small room, the round ceiling fan continued its futile attempt to disperse the grey fog of second-hand smoke and only succeeded in adding a depressing sense of hopelessness to the already dreary office.
On a chair directly below the accursed fan sat a lone figure, the source of the infernal smoke and the reason why the room felt smaller than it should be. His large hands cradling an impending headache, Gunther stubbed out his cigarette and leaned back into his chair. He glanced at the phone on the table for the umpteenth time, waiting for that damned call that he deemed would never even come even if his was the the only number left in the world.
"Goddammit," the man spat at the silence and finally stood up, grabbing his gear and holstering his gun to his side. "I'm gonna kill that sonovabitch." He shrugged his massive shoulders into his coat, shoved a piece of paper with an address written on it, and stared at the phone for a brief second before stepping out of his office.

A retired cop weary and down on his luck.
With a solid build, deep-set eyes, and a rough scruff on his jaws, a look from Gunther and one might immediately stay clear of him. Despite this, life seems to constantly toss his way numerous people from all walks of life; criminals, desperate mothers, corrupt officials, and a prostitute or two. It might be because of his outstanding fame in the business, his animal magnetism, or just his downtrodden luck. But he just wants to be left alone.
The man may still have a commanding presence, but he isn't the lion he once was. Unfortunate events had left him the shell of his former self; reclusive, stubborn, and angry. He has a knack for sensing out a lie from honesty, which has boosted his career in the police force, also caused his downfall and costed him his marriage. Now working as a Private Investigator in his own small office, Gunther's skills and prowess still net him a fierce reputation. And every once in a while, the big guy finds himself the reluctant hero who deperately needs a saviour himself.
