History

• Biography

  Ren was raised an only child by her single mother, who died in a car crash shortly before Ren joined the Galactic Garrison. A crash that would be tragically and similarly repeated with Ren herself: the woman being hit by a car shortly before her first off-world mission was set to launch. Both of her legs were broken, taking surgery and physical therapy to return her mobility. However, she is prone to limping after extensive activity.
  
  Though an only child Ren grew up close to her cousins, especially her sole female cousin Aileen Edwards. Despite the age difference the two have always gotten along and would frequently confide in each other. Aileen eventually followed her cousin in joining the Garrison, though in the security division instead.
  
  As a child Ren always enjoyed tinkering with things, learning how they worked and fixing them. Including, but not limited to: the air conditioner, dishwasher, and lawnmower. She likes to have something to do with her hands, which was why she took up origami. Her favorite thing to fold is paper stars. They're small, she can fold them under her desk without disturbing class, and they're cute as a bonus. (Plus you can flick them across the room better than a wad of paper.)
  
  Originally Ren was scheduled to be the mechanic aboard the Kerberos Mission; the Garrison deciding the send one because of the length and distance of the mission. After her accident and subsequent injury a few months before the scheduled launch, Ren was removed from the mission. When news of the crash broke shortly after Christmas, Ren felt responsible. She didn't believe that it was pilot error, not with Shiro piloting. It must have been a mechanical error and they hadn't been able to fix it. Ren fell into a depression that she's still struggling with.
  
  While recovering, Ren was placed in a teaching position in the Mechanical Engineering department. Though she took the position seriously, she was left bitter about being taken off of active projects and prevented from being assigned more. Likely due to her injury and not fault of her skill, Ren instead saw this as confirmation of her Kerberos suspicions.
