• Physical Appearance

  From a distance, Ruben could almost be mistaken for an obscure movie monster that wandered off-set and got lost. He stands at 6'6 and could be considered lanky except for his broad shoulders. His hair is shoulder-length, nearly black and fairly thin, especially around the left side of his hairline and his eyes are a blueish grey. But his most recognizable feature is perhaps his most prominent: a ragged, pink burn scar that's overtaken most of his body, starting on the left side of his face and covering everything except the backs of his legs and a small portion of his back. This scarring muddles many of his features and makes his exact age difficult to pin down, but it's common to guess much older than 40. The left side of his mouth is also split at the top lip, exposing one or two teeth and giving him an odd kind of scowling, smirking resting face.
  
  Ruben, for the most part, dresses nicely. Depending on which setting he's in, he may be seen in a fairly high-quality suit and long coat or a long cape with a fur trim at the top, which he uses somewhat defensively in social situations. He carries a sword cane but it rarely sees use anymore and, though he hates them with a passion, can occasionally be seen wearing glasses for his relatively poor eyesight. He would wear gloves more often, but he finds them itchy and confusing to what nerves are left in his hands.

• Personality

  Ruben Hesher is a man born and raised in hardship and in many ways, it shows. He prefers to keep to himself on his own time and when he isn't working as a surgeon, he can be found in his home engaging in his hobbies (which include painting and reanimating the dead). This is not, however, for lack of a want for social interaction. While he may not be the easiest person to get along with from day to day, having many hang-ups and eccentricities that would otherwise label him as unapproachable, he views other people as windows into entire other worlds of which he's only normally allowed a glimpse. He likes company, but only the sort that can respect his space when he needs it.
  
  But just as his friendlier, gentler side can be found with a bit of digging, more often than not his less-than-favorable qualities are stumbled upon first. Ruben can be quite cold and manipulative, especially if he feels threatened. He is prone to falling into his old, destructive ways, which are built upon the distrust he has cultivated over many years and frequently get in the way of his relationships, no matter how meaningful they might be.
  
  But to say that Ruben is a bad person is like saying cheese is bad because you dropped one piece on the floor. There are plenty more pieces in the package- plenty more opportunities for change. He is gentle and he is violent. He is shy and he is unhinged. He is lonely and too uncertain of the motives of others to do much about it.

• Sebastian Quigley

  Ruben lives with a young woman who goes by Quigley, who acts as his apprentice, companion and personal encouragement to get the hell out of the house now and then. She's plucky, intuitive and has a good heart, but it takes a bit of peering around whatever she's throwing at you to see it sometimes.
  
  Quigley stands around 5'8 with short, brown curly hair and typically wears green. She plays the piano and is currently teaching Ruben as well. When she isn't learning the in's and out's of patching the bodily leaks of their patients, she can be found fishing on the nearby river, assisting in grave robbery and weaving elaborate schemes to keep the local authority off their backs regarding the aforementioned grave robbery.
