UPDATE 5/27: Still on for this Saturday (May 31st). Added those that were interested so far, and cut down the bulky rules a little bit. NEED MORE PEOPLE!!

Oooohhh yes! That's right, people! We're going way, way back for this one Before Bill & Ted or Marty McFly, before Star Trek or Dr. Who (they started in the 60's, y'all X__x) - back to the 50's, the Golden Era of science fiction theater! What better way to kick back and relax on the lawn as summer starts to roll in than with some silly hijinks, ridiculously-polite language, and absurd alien attire?

No, I'm not talking about a cosplayer's convention. I'm talking drive-in theaters, cheap production values, and a plethora of cliches out the wazoo!

Something like this, though maybe a little higher quality

Consider this a community-wide challenge to kick off summer with, open to anyone willing to put forth the effort. I'm not going to be picky about play-style or whatnot; y'all should know the basics by now. In addition, for those needing a little brushing-up on their golden-era Sci-Fi, or wanting to see the insanity that our parents and/or grandparents (or maybe even some of you in the older crowd ) put up with every trip to the cinema, I might be up for streaming or linking to some old movies from that era, such as:
Forbidden Planet
THEM!
The Day the Earth Stood Still (original)
Godzilla, King of Monsters!
Creature From the Black Lagoon
Invasion of the Body Snatchers (original)
The Blob (1958 vers.)
as well as any other number of classics. Makes for good reference material as well For a decent list of theater-released schlock, look no further than Wikipedia's own list, sorted by year and decade. In addition to all that, Mystery Science Theater 3000 (UNDENIABLY the best show of all time) can make some of the smellier turds watchable. I highly recommend looking up their episodes on YouTube or the 'Net in general, as some of them are near-timeless in their spot-on sarcastic remarks and biting wit.

Look out for the obviously-edited giant insect!
It'll stomp your model cities to bits!

However, there will be a few ground rules:

• Each thread will be a group effort (I hope!). That means that there will be several people participating per thread (may be more than two, we'll see), and everyone will need to pull their weight to reach a resolution. Don't be that fifth wheel!
• Literacy, please. And maybe at least a paragraph's response. Make some effort, please!
  
• OOC topics/discussion will take place in an OOC thread. Please use it when it's up!
  
• Use new characters that are theme-appropriate, please! Okay, so they don't have to be new, but they should be appropriate for what thread they end up in.
• No cursing. If we're to believe the old, old school movies, no one cursed, ever. If you must "swear", era-appropriate words are allowed ("gee wiz", "holy smokes", possibly a "good Lord" thrown in for measure). Yes, it sounds hokey - that's part of the point, and the fun!
• No naughtiness. Keep the pants on, people, and think of the children! Seriously though, keep it clean.[/i][/b]
• Violence will be minimal. And extremely cheesy, to boot. Keep it to PG levels of violence when/if it comes to that, please.
• The above rules may change or be added to at any moment.

CHARACTERS: Will update when I get the story outlines written up (as usual, idea first, development second ), but mad scientists, egomaniacal miliitary personnel, and quick-tempered everyday-men are all possibilities! Maybe even giant monsters, if that becomes a thing - opening up the possibility of a Godzilla rogue gallery reject free-for-all! More details to come!

POSTING SCHEDULE: Both (or more) threads will run for as long as it takes to get to an appropriate ending. That said, I'm aiming to start next weekend, where a rather fast-paced update schedule will be instilled (between 2~4 days per OP post). Of course, that depends upon how many people are interested; if it turns out high, I might push it back a few days to ready myself

Seriously, I will give my first batch of thanks to all participants, and it will be big honkin' thank-you's. Those that put forth extra effort will also have my undying gratitude, and will be honored for their efforts.
And if things go well better than expected... who knows?

Woohoo!! What kind of characters do you want here? Experts of made-up science? Oversized *insert noun here*? Surprisingly effective slow-moving monster? The possibilities!!

@Connan: Updated. Still kinda vague right now, but once I get the first two stories down I'll have more info. However, if you want to get ahead of the game, most any human character stereotype (mad scientist, over-eager military man, ect.) will probably be acceptable

But that's something of a special case, though

I'm interested in this. I have one "mad scientist" archetype that I could polish up to use, and I could possibly fill in for other b-movie archetypes.

If anything, I want to take on a sort of Godzilla RP.

That does sound like an awesome idea, though probably would like OC's just to make sure copyrights aren't violated or anything Toho has been known to be rather protective of their main money-maker, though I doubt a few people on an RP site doing so for fun would constitute as infringement...
