So, I'm not exactly an excellent DM or an excellent writer, but I think it might be fun to give D&D on this site a shot. If anyone's interested, let me know below. No experience necessary (In fact, I would prefer total newbies) I'll explain all the rules and everything.

We'll be playing AD&D Second Edition for 2 reasons: 1, because it's the one I have the books and know the rules for, and 2, because it doesn't require a tabletop map, minifigures, or anything like that, which makes it perfect for a forum-based D&D game.

Plot outline
Quote:
In the badlands of the Godclaw Canyons, a series of massive rifts in the ground, there lies the fortress of Tiza Grell, one of the last remnants of an extinct civilization. Since its abandonment, it has been reclaimed to become the trading and cultural hub of the badlands. It is also home to the Department of Magical Containment, a powerful order of wizards devoted to the retrieval and protection of dangerous magical artifacts. A group of adventurers (Read: You) are employed either by the Department or its antithesis, a group of anarchists who believe magic should be free to run its course on the world, good or bad, to track down various powerful magic artifacts and keep them out of the grasp of the opposing faction. During this struggle, a strange and ancient force stirs within the depths of Tiza Grell.

Sound cool? Here's the link to the group.
Defintely sounds interesting. xD

If more people get involved id be up for playing a rogue or a priest.

I have two people who've PMd me already, and I was looking for a party of 3 to 5, so if you joined we would probably be good to go.

I've started setting up a group here.
I'm interested in this as a total noob. I've always wanted to try it.

Go ahead and join the group. It's a WIP, but when it's done I can run you through charrie creation and we can play some D&D.
I am always interested in playing D&D! Though I am not new to the system, I will gladly join such an adventure!
MadlyInAnger

I am 100% interested in this. I recently picked up a really nice book that explained the rules for D&D but haven't sat down to read it yet. Being a newb, I think this would be super fun!
Let me know if you're still looking!

I'm almost done with the charrie creation thread for the group. It's a lot to go over. In the meantime, go ahead and join, I opened it up so you don't have to apply or anything.

I think Madly will be the last person I'll take for now. That gives us a party of around 4 to 6, and i don't want to take on any more until I know I'm doing this right.

Also, Miss, what version are you familiar with? We'll be playing second edition AD&D which has some significant differences from other versions that I'll explain when we get started.
EDIT: Well, if there is any more space I'd be happy to fill it X3

AcrossTheSea, you're welcome to join the group, you just might not be in a party for a while, but at least this way you can get updates on the game. And if not everybody who expressed an interest decides to join, you'll be the first to be welcomed into the game!

As for everyone else. I have a page here for getting started. There are a few minor differences from normal D&D, but it's mostly the same. Go ahead and create your characters and PM them to me or post them in the OOC section of the group forum.

Thanks!
I have played the original, first edition of Dungeons and Dragons. It was very interesting, in that cleric was not a class you could start as, and elf was a class in its own. I have also played 3.5 and its cousin, Pathfinder. I have only heard of 4th edition, in which the combat was highly praised, but the customization of the characters was limited. I have played 5th edition as well, and I am highly pleased by it. It is a very smooth and well constructed system, were every character is able to shine.

But I have not played 2nd edition. My normal DM speaks about it, as he is an older man, but I have not played it.

Edit: Actually, I have played 2nd edition! I have played Balder's Gate, profusely, and that uses the 2nd edition ruleset of D&D. I am familiar with the THACO, multiclassing, and race restrictions on classes.

Oh yeah, I forgot to mention multi and duel classing on that page! If it comes up I'll deal with it, but I think atm the game is already a bit overwhelming for a new player.

Anyway, glad to hear you have some experience. I've only DM'd a few times and I've actually - confession time - never played D&D as a PC, so don't hesitate to let me know if I'm screwing something up.
I will say that I will not say anything regarding your story telling style. To me, the game is best played with an understanding that the DM is the judge and story-teller of the game. Should the DM not wish to play with particular rules, or enforce others, that is fine. But I do know that there are good story tellers and bad story tellers, as I have played as a character underneath both. Some are very average story tellers, and that is fine, as long as everyone has fun!

D&D is not a game about winning, either by killing everything or simply surviving every encounter. It is about the story, and it is about enjoying the adventure, but neither are crucial in the sense that the story -must- continue and be "progressed". If the characters are enjoying moving from tavern to tavern to start bar brawls and are enjoying themselves, then it is not important to change the direction of the story in favor of the DM's carefully written plot. Sometimes, it is best to be flexible, as PC's come in all shapes and have different goals and needs.

In the end, there is no right, nor wrong way to play D&D.

Hey, Across the Sea, why don't you go ahead and make a character? So far, Miss is the only one who's done it and I don't want this to fall through, so joining the game is going to be first come first served.
Awesome! I'll get started right away!
