So what sort of music does everybody like listening to when they roleplay? Just out of curiosity. Me? I have a massive playlist made up specifically of nothing but OSTs from Avatar: The Last Airbender, The Witcher, Shadow of the Colossus, Warhammer, and WoW (Since I play mostly fantasy characters, that is). Mind you, when I'm just listening to music, I listen to completely different stuff, but this is just for during roleplay music :D

Me? Several game OSTs help me RP and help me 'feel' the thing. RPGs are especially good for that, as I almost only RP fantasy thingies. The Suikoden series has wonderful music for that (2 mostly), as do some Final Fantasy titles, when they're not being all over-the-top. IX is the best for that in my opinion.

There are others, I'm sure... I just can't remember them right now.

I prefer stuff from FFIV, myself. It's pretty epic and classic at the same time.
I listen to Weird Al, Lady Gaga, Michael Jackson and a lot of 80s music in general. I especially love Once Bitten Twice Shy by Great White.
I have a Pandora Radio station that's my main source of tunes during RP when I REALLY want to feel it: Yasunori Mitsuda <3 My favorite composer of forever.

When I'm not in the mood for that, I have a far-too-long playlist of Vocaloid songs (141 at the time of posting) that I listen to and sing/mumblewhenIdon'tknowthewords along with. Go ahead, you can say it. NERRRRRRRRD.

I walked down the aisle at my wedding to a song from FFIV. :3 (No, it wasn't from the OSV - it was off the Celtic Moon album.)

I don't usually have a particular set of music I listen to when I RP; most of the time I turn on iTunes and go to. Most of my music collection - which I actually spent organising today, coincidentally - is from video games, RPGs, mostly. Trigger, Cross, early Final Fantasies, Mana, etc. All the Mega Man OSTs, too.

'Real' music-wise, there's some eighties stuff there, too, and a lot of Tragically Hip (nobody outside of Canada knows who they are, sadly), my dancing music, and a whole bunch of random crap. I don't tend to follow bands/singers much (aside from the aforementioned Hip, and Weird Al, but he's just awesome), so I end up with a lot of singles that just float on by themselves.
I generally listen to OSTs too. Mostly LOTR/Star Wars and other epic movies/games of epic proportions to bring out just that little more epic out into RP. Epic.
Besides that: classical music, folk and metal.
Depends entirely on the character. I have playlists for some of my characters. Scars's is composed almost entirely of songs by Flaw and Cruxshadows. Naga has a lot of filk and country on his. My taste in music is insane in its scope - there is literally not a single style of music I won't listen to, be it Austrian screamer deathmetal or 50s country love songs - so I just let the characters pick their own music and build a playlist based on that.

But mostly it's country music and Flaw. Lately, more Flaw than country. And a bit of RvB music, too.
Some nerdcore, MC Frontalot, mc chris, Nursehella. Random whatevers, Pomplamoose, Clutch, Mirah, Said the Whale, some oldies whether it's 80s or 60s, some random songs from soundtracks, not OSTs just to clarify.
