in my attempt to make a new character, i went to a website to create an image of her. i used this same website before, and have uploaded the pictures onto here without any problems. but now it will not let me. i even tried using an older picture that i used for another character , and it says that the file is too large, even though i have used it before. what happened?

That message means the image is larger than 500kb in filesize, which means it can't be uploaded. It's likely that the images you created in the past were different enough to allow the filesize to be smaller than 500kb, but the new images are just too large.
If the image is a .png file, you can try using TinyPNG - it will compress the image without losing any details but making it small enough to be uploaded. (This is the option I recommend, if at all possible.)
If it's a .jpf or .gif, you can try using a Resize Images Online service. Just upload your picture and set the "Image quality" to 90% or less. It will estimate how large the filesize of the new image will be.
Do keep in mind that the quality of the image will become a little less.
Alternatively, you can change the dimensions by resizing the pixels. So if your image is 1000 pixels wide, you could reduce it to 750 pixels and see if that's enough to allow the upload.
If you're having trouble with this, you can upload your image to Imgur.com and PM me, I'd be happy to get it to the right size for you.

Where did you use it in the past? Where are you trying to use it now? The file size limit for icons is smaller than gallery images.
i used the picture as an icon for a character before, and its still there, but i cant upload it to a new character now, or any other pictures i made using the site i used to make the first. did they recently lower the file size?
No, the file size hasn't changed in years.
