Petty Officer Takor (played by AmericanLiaison)

The year is 2852 A.D. for humankind, and at this point in the mid twenty ninth century, man has been traveling through space for nearly four hundred years. Dozens of different space faring corporations have risen up, and with them an entirely new line of work, the most important being exploration. Among all of these companies has arisen partnership and collaboration that had long laid dormant among the humans, and few of the agencies that now control the ways to the stars work privately.

At this point in time, technology is as advanced as it has ever been. Androids and energy weapons are in use, as are new methods of ship to ship combat and communication. Most frigate grade vessels and above are equipped with warp fields and jump drives, allowing travel from system to system to occur in a matter of days, if not hours. Communication uses new subspace emitters that travel across the galaxy far more quickly than any ship could, allowing companies to keep in touch with their captains, and their crews with their families.

Now, a completely new system has been discovered by the foremost paramilitary corporation among these groups, the Intergalactic Expeditionary Corps. Far out on the outer reaches of the Milky Way, the system has recently emitted subspace signals frequently used by humans and other recently discovered species that have allied with them, though no recorded flights have ever ventured so far towards the galactic barrier. The IEC has now called on the rest of the corporations to assemble a group to venture to this new system, in an attempt to discover the origin of the signals. Could it be possible that there is yet another species within the already crowded galaxy, waiting for first contact? Or could this be the work of a lost ship, now stranded on a hostile world? Whatever the case, you have answered the call, regardless of your organization, and have now gone to the designated rendezvous on the deep space shipdock, Hubble Station, named after what many consider to be its ancestral technology, the Hubble Telescope.

---Character Information---

While humans are the dominant species in the corporations, this is really only because other races have their own! That being said, feel free to create your own species, or perhaps even be something like an android! However, if you try to be something with an extremely overpowered and unfair advantage towards others in the roleplay, you will be asked to tone it down, and if it continues, to leave.

You do not have to be part of the IEC in the roleplay, though this is allowed. Understand that the IEC is a military structured corporation, and that not all of the others are. You could make your own groups that focus more on things such as science, medical, engineering, etc. The IEC's role in the story is more of a protection against the hostile wildlife and species that could be found throughout space travel.

While energy weapons (think something like phasers from Star Trek) are a thing, they are very costly to use, and most are only found among law enforcement, as they are used to stun or incapacitate targets, rather than wound them. Most military groups still used ballistic weaponry, but their technology has obviously far surpassed 21st century firearms. Many weapons use a new chemical firing mechanism, the specs of which have not been given to the public, which functions even in the vacuum of space. Other more militant groups, have developed a new ammunition that has plasma infused tips that punch through armor with ease, though shielding on ships dissolves them without a problem.

Many different variants of survival suits have hit the market, and in fact, many people have even made their own. This being said, some people don't use them at all, and this is entirely the character's choice of whether they wish to use one or not. It is strongly suggested that they at least have an emergency breathing mask in case they are exposed to the vacuum. Despite breakthroughs in synthesizing breathable air inside both masks and full out survival suits, the supply will not be indefinite in space. These functions are also useful on planets with toxic air supplies.

Whether your character has a ship of their own or not, it will not matter. The journey will be taking place on the IEC battlecruiser Aurora, a ship designed for speed and combat. Traveling in its four shuttle bays are two Beta-Class cargo frigates, capable of transporting up to two hundred tons of equipment each. Along with these are also two Beta-Class transport shuttles, each able to carry up to four passengers with comfort, as well as the pilot and copilot. The Aurora is capable of jumping, usually, three systems at a time using its jump drive, and traveling at a warp factor of eight, making it one of the faster battlecruisers built. It has an armament of twelve phase cannons and six torpedo bays, with eight cannons and four bays in the front, two cannons and one bay on each side, and two canons and two bays in the back. There are also ten escape pods on the craft, should they be needed.

As for story, anything could happen! While I don't mind a bit of possible romance or combat within the plot, I do ask that explicit love scenes (AKA sexual interactions), are kept out of the roleplay. Nobody wants to see two people going at it while the rest are trying to progress the story. As for combat, while it can, and will, happen, it will not be the driving force. There are no wars going on within the galaxy, meaning the most common ship on ship combat is against pirates trying to raid vessels for gear.

I hope this gets peoples attention, and hope to hear from some people. Cheers!

P.S. If there are any questions, feel free to ask them. I don't want any confusion when the roleplay starts up!

(I have also posted this in the Looking for RP forum, for those that may prefer a PM style RP.)

Have you gotten interest in this yet? Sounds cool :)
Petty Officer Takor (played by AmericanLiaison) Topic Starter

Unfortunately no. It didn't seem to catch much interest. The rp, PM wise anyway, died very quickly.
Vayari Alzen (played by BreezyDawn)

Too bad. Let me know if you wanna reboot it. :)
Petty Officer Takor (played by AmericanLiaison) Topic Starter

I'd love to try again. I didn't really get to move this anywhere, and I was looking forward to doing so.
Vayari Alzen (played by BreezyDawn)

Would Vayari work? I left her a bit vague in the backstory so I could use her in more stories. I'm looking forward to fleshing her out a bit more. If not - Brink might be a good one too, and I'd love to work more with her as well :)

As the story says, as long as it doesn't give a massively overpowered advantage to other potential players, I'm perfectly fine with it! :)
Vayari Alzen (played by BreezyDawn)

Okay :) I'm fine with PM or right here.

In the deep reaches of space, far from the home of the human race known as Earth, sat a space station, a hub, for many to use for both transportation, research, and communication. This hub was known as Hubble Station, and was possibly the largest man-made hub in existence. And so it was here that many of the space-faring organizations that now existed housed themselves, holding their off-planet headquarters here for both the convenience of being in space, and for the easy communication among others, for there was not so much of a private corporation existing in these times.

Among these was the Intergalactic Expeditionary Corps, a primarily paramilitary styled security group, often tasked with dealing with hazardous exploration, space pirates, and terrorist operations, for even in this age of advancement, humans and other species felt the need to harass and hate one another. But first and foremost, the men and women of the IEC acted as guardians for the rest of the corporations and civilians within the Milky Way, and perhaps someday, even farther.

Several days prior to now, the IEC picked up transmissions on their long range relays, originally set up to attempt to catch and control pirate activity, later developed into the subspace relays used for long range communications in the galaxy, and now also used to try to find more life among the stars, asides from the species newly discovered and brought into this prospering society. The unnerving thing about these transmissions, were the similarity to signals used by humans in the late twenty third century, communications that hadn't been used for centuries now. People wondered if this could be some lost ship's colony sending out a call for help, or perhaps something else, a new but similar species to the humans that were beginning to thrive themselves. The signals coming in, while similar in function, were too distorted to be clear, as they were not made to be put into subspace. And so now, in an effort to find out what the truth was, the IEC has sent out a call for volunteers to go into deep space and find what was making this signal, where it came from, and who started it.

On Deck 17, Section 4B, the IEC was holding an open meeting in a conference room, waiting for any and all volunteers to answer the call given out. Currently residing at the meeting was IEC security detachment Theta-2-7-6, one of many of their eight man, paramilitary teams typically sent on other missions like this. Residing with this team, was Petty Officer Takor Mincalla, a Mars-born human that had already been briefed on the mission at hand. Now the team was simply waiting for others to come and get the same briefing.
Vayari Alzen (played by BreezyDawn)

Vayari Alzen hesitated outside the hall of section 4B, glancing down for the umpteenth time to make sure she was in the right place. Sure enough, she had arrived at her destination at long last. She took a deep breath, pushing away the frustrations she always felt when aboard larger ships and space hubs such as this one. She hated the maze of corridors, the spiderweb of decks, rooms, and whatever other spaces they could cram in. It made her miss the quiet confines of her two person fighter.

Squaring her frame, which was currently 5'4", and focusing her currently grey eyes forward, she lifted her petite chin and pressed the console which sent the doors hissing open. Her glossy black hair hung in a neat cut just below her chin, and she wore for the time being, something other than her normal body suit, which was equipped to sustain her in many different atmospheres and environments. Uncomfortable as it was, she had opted for a knee length pencil skirt, and a blouse to match, her shoes were practical but dressy. While it may throw the others a bit of confusion, given that her profile didn't fit that of someone volunteering for deep space exploration, she found it gave her a bit of confidence to dress nicely when she could. This was just to be a meeting, and hence, no need for a bodysuit. As she entered the room, she was glad she had eaten before she came, her always steadier after a snack. Her eyes quickly took in those already present as she dipped her head in a nod to those who seemed in charge of the briefing, before taking a seat and folding her hands in her lap.

She had been chosen by her home world of Telos, fresh out of school, to be one of several emissaries of sorts to the humans. Hers had been a lucky catch, a chance at an internship, to see and immerse herself in the worlds and culture of the humans, to share her own culture, and to learn as much about other races and beings as she could. And so, when the IEC had called for volunteers, and her internship having just ended, military and political leaders on her planet had found her suitable to take on the job. Of course they wanted one of their own race, preferably one they thought they could manipulate (hence their choice of a young face fresh from school) to go deep space with the humans. Though the trip wasn't supposed to be an exploration per say, they would perhaps be charting new territory, and the Changers didn't want to be left behind the times.

And so here she was, proffering her skillset as a fightercraft pilot, a quick study in language, and being of the Changer race - which could come in handy in many situations. She felt a flutter of excited nerves, but kept her face carefully neutral as she had painstakingly learned. She was here for a briefing.

After Vayari's arrival, several minutes passed by as more people came into the room, most of them technicians and scientists, though there were also several medical personnel that had come as well. For the most part however, the people inside the room, including the security team, belonged to the Intergalactic Security Corps. Among these people, Takor Mincalla stood out, even among his own team, for the armor suiting he wore was unique, a recent design that had just left the prototype stage, and was still held closely by the IEC, meaning no other corporation, civilian or not, had it.

Once everyone had arrived, a man in a suit, presumably an officer among the IEC, stepped up to the long table in the room and pressed a key on it, causing several holographic projections to be cast above the surface of the table. Among it was a list of names for who would be on the ship to the unnamed planet, equipment manifests, and a schematic of the ship they would be taking to the planet. The ship was one of a newer design, a battlecruiser with a mixed design that combined weaponry with speed, making it, usually, an ample counter for many pirate operations. In this case, its prototype engines would make the journey much quicker than usual, though it looked like, judging from the map displayed with the other information, that the journey would still take at least three weeks.

"Good day", started the supposed IEC official, "And thank you for answering our call for help. I'm sure most of you are wondering just what this is all about, so without further delay, I will explain. Five days ago, subspace communication relays picked up transmissions from a sector of the galaxy that, as of yet, has remained unexplored. From the looks of things, the source is coming from a planet that resides in a system close to the galactic barrier. With few ships of our own thanks to the recent pirate attacks, we've asked for help to crew our newest ship, the Aurora. We don't have the manpower to crew it ourselves, otherwise, we would already be underway. Now, rather than drone on, I will open the floor for questions regarding the mission, and go from there. If I feel there are other details that need to be filled in, I will give them."

At mention of pirates Vayari shifted in her seat a bit uncomfortably, her gaze moving from where it had been intently focused on the holo's to move around the room. She wasn't even sure if most of the people here, if any other than the officer in charge of the operation, knew of her Changer heritage. If so, she knew most people looked down on the race, and subtly glanced to see if there were any negative glances thrown her way. It was an unfortunate happening, that, because of the Changers ability to shift their features to resemble that of nearly all humanoid appearances, many of them turned to pirating as an occupation. Their talents afforded them a hand up in things involving deception, and often could also be found running political scams as well. She had never agreed with this being an acceptible history, but she would not turn her back on her own people and so tended to either stay silent when scams or pirating were brought up, or tried to find a way to defend her people should they be incriminated. After all, who was she if not part of her own race? Perhaps this was a bit twisted in ideals, but she was young yet, and was still searching within to find her beliefs and figuring out what acting on them would look like.

Another thought popped into Vaya's mind as she listened to the report. The mission could no doubt turn dangerous. Which brought to her mind a few questions she wanted answered. So, she rose from her chair, waited to be acknowledged, and then spoke up - having no qualms about momentarily being the center of attention. Her voice would be strong but quiet, and lilted up a bit at the ends every so often in a type of musical cadence. "Officer, can you tell us whether this communication you recieved was a distress call? And was it in a known language?" She was very curious as to the actual message recieved having a special interest in linguistics and the people themselves. "Also, who will be commanding the Aurora?"

After she finished speaking she remained standing, back straight, until the questions were either answered or at least acknowledged, before regaining her seat, tucking a strand of hair behind her ear in a subcontious gesture. She felt a flutter of excitement, and also a twinge of frustration. Her people obviously thought her expendable as well as able to be manipulated. While they would love to have any information this mission would provide on the new territories, they hadn't wanted to risk any of their more important and higher ranked officers, as the dangers of uncharted galaxies were... Uncharted. But she would show them all wrong. She would make a name for herself. She would become invaluable as well as show them she couldn't be manipulated.

These thoughts in mind, Vaya sat back in her chair as the meeting continued and glanced subtly around at the faces of those who would be joining her on the mission, trying to get a feel for each as they in turn focused on the officer at the front. Her gaze settled for a few lingering moments on one of those in the security team, she wasn't sure which name on the list belonged to him. His suit was intruiguing, and she would have loved to see some specs on it. Soon her gaze was drawn back to the front, her focus returning to the breifing.

(That's okay, don't worry about it!)

The questions asked by Vayari were fielded by the suited IEC member, who answered them readily without much of a pause. Bringing up several more specs on the holographic displays, he waved first towards a audio display, hitting a key that began the intercepted transmission, and as it played, he explained the obvious. "As you can see, the message is far too broken up for us to get anything sensible from it. It could be English, or it could be some dead language made up in a nineteenth century comic book. It is merely the transmission waves themselves that resemble familiar patterns used by humans before. For all we know, this is something that could have been sent centuries ago on some ancient system, and it just now is reaching us. We just don't know."

Turning his attention to another display, this one the list of names for those on the mission, the suit highlighted a name towards the top of the list. "Commodore Jean Alford is the current commanding officer of the Aurora. He's been with the IEC for roughly twelve years now, and is one of our most qualified cruiser captains. He's already been briefed on everything you're hearing now, and is readying the cruiser for departure."

Turning away from that display, the suit motioned towards the eight armored men standing in a group towards the side of the room. "These will be the the mission's main security force. Leading what will be the ground force is the man in that particularly unique armor you see there, Petty Officer Takor Mincalla. He's been serving in hostile exploration operations for roughly four years now, so if any of you end up on a ground crew, listen to his orders."
Vayari Alzen (played by BreezyDawn)

Listening intently to the communications being replayed, Vaya eyes nearly closed in concentration as she strained to pick out definable traits amidst all the static. She heard a voice, but, like the officer had said, it wasnt a good enough transmission to understand it.

As the officer then direction everyone's attention to Takor Mincalla, who would be leading the ground crews. She wasn't sure where she'd be assigned yet, but it probably wasn't with security. While she could handle a small aircraft's guns with ease and precision, a handgun and other such weapons seemed to evade her abilities. This had frustrated her to no end in flight school, as hand weapons training had been a core class, and most of the other trainees had been better. Still, she had shone in other areas.

It might be that she would be assigned to a groundcrew meant for observation and delegation with any beings they might find. If they were humanoid, she could shift things in her vocal chords to emulate nearly any noises they might use for their language. So Vaya made sure to commit Officer Mincalla's face and position to memory, as she would try to do for any others necessary.

Wondering how soon the voyage would begin, Vaya listened to the closing remarks of the briefing in silence. Her bags were already packed, and she felt excitement stir once again at the idea of uncharted space. If only she had been able to bring along her small ship. It could have been just her in the quiet of space, surrounded by stars, where no one had ventured before. How amazing would that be? She reached in her pocket and pulled out a salty granola bar to munch.

The suit opened the floor to more questions after finishing with his answers to Vayari's, and it seemed that the majority of them were equipment related, and a few more related to the ship that would be taking them to this far off world. As stated before, the Aurora was a state of the art battlecruiser, more suited for dealing with small pirate ship groupings than armada work, and due to its engine designs, both sublight and the jump system, it was one of the fastest ships in commission currently.

With that information on the table, no more questions seemed to be raised from the assembled group, and with that, the suit powered down the holographic displays and motioned towards the door. "You should board the cruiser without any further delay. We don't wish this to be prolonged any further than it has been. The security team will show you the way. Good luck everyone, and thank you."

Following a nod from the suit, the security personnel took their helmets and secured them on, the locks around the necks impossible to see, even for someone who knew where to look. Now only distinguishable to each other (or in Takor's case, by his armor), the eight man team filed out first, beginning to lead the way to where the Aurora was docked to Hubble Station.
Vayari Alzen (played by BreezyDawn)

Vaya excused herself soon after the group exited the room. She would be able to find the Aurora on her own as she had downloaded the cruiser's map into her bodysuit. She had to grab her things, and if she was honest to herself, say goodbye to her own little ship. Twisting and turning through the hallways which led her back towards a long term docking port which housed the various ships that wouldn't be used for some time, Vaya finally reached the large open area and took a deep breath. Of in one corner she spotted her ship, the Ripper, just where she'd left it, and a smile stretched her lips. As she drew closer she reached up to run a hand along the weather beaten exterior which had many dings and scratches that spoke of her many adventures. She had refused to repaint and pull out dents, feeling like that would also leech the experience and wisdom from the ship she knew so well. They were only flesh wounds and did nothing to take away from the Ripper's functionality.

Finally, she pulled herself away with a last lingering touch and boarded for a moment to grab her packed back and send a fond farewell glance. Hopefully she'd make it back in one piece to reclaim it. Then, slipping out of her dressy outfit she re-clothed herself in her familiar onepiece suit, leaving the headpiece tucked under one arm. She didn't need it's visor screen to show her the map, because the suit's ability to read her bodily functions also could project the map overlay into her own vision, via the nodes near her spine. While the suite was only equipped with the lightest of armor, not good in true battle, it could tell her what damage had been taken to both herself , and when inside the Ripper, what damage her ship had taken as well. A recent upgrade she had done to place a chip in her ship had linked the two together, making them a better team than ever before.

Quickly now, she left the smaller long-term docking port behind, following the overlay she was receiving from her suit. It took nearly twenty minutes of brisk walking, and she ignored the other passengers of the cruiser who gave her odd looks as she moved through. She knew they couldn't know of her Changer race, as she looked completely human in her chosen appearance. But she had preferred the slender, short stature woman, which perhaps was a bit less common to see dressed for a space mission and walking with the confidence which she possessed. Overconfident? Probably. But better to let others be oblivious to her inner turmoil and confusion. No need to make her life harder.

Finally she reached the Aurora where it sat in all it's glorious beauty, sleek, and obviously fast as the officer had said. She moved to the ramp, where she promptly boarded, her pack slung over her shoulder and her helmet tucked under her arm. Once she was inside, she looked around to see who she should report to to be assigned a bunk, or possibly a chamber of her own. She figured the captain had other officers who would see to such assignments.
