I'd like to see the content of a forum response displayed within an email notification, whether that winds up being individual posts or a digest from oldest to newest. Instead of saying 'Hey, this [linked thread here] has new content! Come check it out!' it would be nice to read what was said from my inbox and choose to come to the forum to respond.
Even more awesome would be the option to respond from one's email. I assume that if the message was originally posted by a character, your response would come as from your character, and same for OOC comments.
Does that make sense? A good parallel would be from the Live Journal days where comments could be read and responded to from your inbox, instead of having to go to the LJ post itself to see what was going on.
I think it would add versatility for those who can't access the forums but want to keep up with what's going on in the day, and would help click-through by giving people a more clear idea of what they're about to jump back into.
