A widespread legend tells of a man who goes around the world, spreading his wisdom and enlightenment to anyone who crosses paths with him. This man is dubbed 'The Wanderer', or more popularly known as 'The World's Traveler'.
Your hometown is a small, boring, dull place. Every single person there seems to dread life, especially you. No one smiles, no one laughs, and no one is ever happy. One day, a man, seemingly just a drifter, wanders into your town.
The man stays in town for a little awhile, playing games with the children, helping out the villagers, and sharing stories of his experiences, as well as giving enlightening advice to the people, all with a bright smile on his face....
Though one night, you awake from your slumber, noticing the man leaving the town, presumably continuing his journey. You decide to pursue him....

Magic is rare, but not unheard of. Mundane characters may or may not believe in it. Magical characters may form small and exclusive pockets for study, protection, etc.
