I updated the gallery widgets today.
You should now be able to upload images with a file size of 2MB, and up to 1500 x 1500 px. This should allow all you art buffs to showcase higher quality work.
Do keep in mind that for every image that you upload, other people still have to download those images. The larger you make them, the longer your visitors will have to wait. I strongly recommend uploading images at the smallest size that they still look good, and no larger, but it's up to you to make that call.
